Very True! Every year the chocolate industry in America generates over $20bn and all that cocoa is shipped from Nigeria and Cote d'ivoire with peanuts. I weep for Nigeria. I weep for Africa. HVACSpecialist: 1 Like |

Coal is no longer an economically viable source of energy. there is tons of commercial quantity coal deposits discovered in Kogi state for decades, no one is looking at them. 2 Likes |

HVACSpecialist:It is not 'intellectual capabilities' we are lacking, but political environment.Nigeria have intellectuals in all fields of endeavor all over the world. Imagine that the diversification focus of this government is mainly in the North West and East. Coal that has been a major mineral in the Eastern part of Nigeria and even in Kogi state is now been celebrated as diversification goal of the FG. The only solution to our problems is restructuring! 2 Likes |

America is running from coal because of the environmental menace and Nigeria is running to it for money. Think of environment first . |

kelvinreality:Coal has been discovered in Kogi State for decades. It is only that maybe the Northern leaders does not see Kogi as a core Norther State - hence their lackadaisical approach in the exploration of the resources there. Even oil that is now been celebrated in Borno is available in Ibaji local government area of Kogi State and also in Bida local government area of Niger State for decades. |

KevinDein:nope..i think they will love it! y? becos soon northerners would realise that "wetin dey for sokoto, e dey for shokoto" then they will leave that certain region alone and use their own! i cant wait for the north to find crude oil in very large quantity...! |
Re: Sokoto Discovers Coal In Commercial Quantity by RealityShot: 7:17am On Dec 27, 2016 |
HVACSpecialist:lol..thats y i keep saying Nigerians should tell buhari to move us out of the Stone Age to at least Agrarian Age.. only then can we have hope of reaching the INDUSTRIAL AGE! without industries we cannot manufacture what we need..so we continue to answer "developing country". Imagine simple cocoa processing we cannot industrialize...poopoo on African leaders |
Re: Sokoto Discovers Coal In Commercial Quantity by RealityShot: 7:24am On Dec 27, 2016 |
Opakan2:not So Sir.. mordern processing techniques allow coal to be convert to a liquid form that burns with very little carbon emission almost like diesel |

EternalTruths:hell No they wont! if they do, they will loose all the offshore oil wells they own. (actually, they own ALL of them! Haha..) that is the only reason they make sure Nigeria sticks together... lets just pray the discover oil in the deserts like saudi and other arab countries |

Re: Sokoto Discovers Coal In Commercial Quantity by COMPAQ(m): 8:58am On Dec 27, 2016 |
While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but coal is now on the back foot due to issues around emissions. If we wanted to use that coal to generate power, we might not find countries to either loan us the money or the technology to build it. I wonder why we aren't focusing more on solar and wind though. Estimates have it that by 2017/2018 both solar and wind will be cheaper than electricity from gas, coal or nuclear. That means demand for crude oil will fall further. And electric vehicles are expected to take the world by storm in the next 10 to 15years as they become mass market. Meaning even less demand for fossil fuels. I hope Nigeria is planning ahead on how to run this country without high oil prices? Cos it looks like we may be at these 40 dollar level for along time to come. 1 Like |

Re: Sokoto Discovers Coal In Commercial Quantity by COMPAQ(m): 9:28am On Dec 27, 2016 |
obailala: Very valid point though! If indeed we used the coal to generate 24hrs electricity, we would probably be better off considering the generators that will go offline. Besides there are technologies to minimize emissions now. We could reinject into the ground for one. |
Re: Sokoto Discovers Coal In Commercial Quantity by Nobody: 12:13am On Dec 28, 2016 |
nature2abdul: Really? If what you posted is real then I must say there is form of dichotomy between the north on crucial issue? Why won't they regard kogi as a core northern state? Is it because of cultural reasons or your perceived imagination? If at all the coal in kogi has not been given much attention, the issue should not be blame on the northerners rather the government of kogi state should be criticise for lack of publicity. Had it been you did not post this I won't be aware. On a serious note, even the awareness of kogi state is not needed. Nigeria as a country is not interested in other resources like coal apart from oil and of such this has affected the interest of the north and other region in the development of other resources. |
Re: Sokoto Discovers Coal In Commercial Quantity by Nobody: 5:34am On Dec 28, 2016 |
kelvinreality:The Sokoto State governor thanked the FG in the concerted effort to diversify hence the discovery of coal in the State; this is the reason for bringing that of Kogi to the discussion. On oil: The focus of the present Federal government is the North East , which shows where his priorities lies. That also made me to remind them that oil is already in Niger and Kogi State- both are Northern States. Why do you refuse to tap what you already have and be going ahead to spend Billions of Naira looking for it if not preference? |
