Bloody lie! They cant pay for it? and the same airlines fly to Ghana to refuel and pay there? What is wrong with this government and lies? Why not address the issue of scarcity without all these useless and embarrassing excuses? 2 Likes 1 Share |

hyfr: They cannot pay. Said it times without number, the aviation industry in Nigeria is a farce. Air travel is beyond Nigeria. Let us just admit that fact. Since independence the so called industry has witnessed countless turnovers of operators and they all collapse due to bad economics, i.e. the inability of Nigerians to afford it, simple. If it was attractive foreign investors will have come in decades ago but even the Virgin debacle was only about getting more slots, not reviving the industry. With an offshore content of almost 90 percent it is impossible for any airline to make sustainable profit in a rapidly impoverishing country. |

dallyemmy: Can you pay for it?. Nigerians are always: there is not enough fuel, not enough power, not enough this and that but the real question in a market economy of demand and supply is. Can you afford it. Because once you are willing to buy and able to buy, a supply is automatically guaranteed, business is created. The fact is that Nigerians donot like to pay properly for most things. |

dallyemmy: I just don't know what is wrong with the state and/or the people of Nigeria. We are always so different. Take for instance, are we the only country in recession, Cameroun is in recession too and has an economy a fraction of our but could still host and reward its sportswomen for coming second and we are complaining of lack of resources to pay ours that came tops. We are a self centred people with a 'generator mentality', a mentality that prefers to queue up buy fuel for generators but bypass electricity meters because it 'doesn't make sense'. And that is why Nigerians will not pay for things, industries that have high offshore content wil suffer because they have no local alternatives or subsidies. There are no local alternatives to air travel in terms of manufacture of aircraft, maintenance, and fuel which takes 90% of the cost of running the business. So..... |

Hmmm..... the airlines don't want to pay the carriers. ... they prefer to divert their flights to Ghana or wherever.... bhrn extra fuel to get there...pay landing fees and whatever other fees.... and still pay for the fuel.... all to avoid paying the carriers. Somebody pampers is loaded.... overloaded. 1 Like |

criminals! do airline passengers fly on credit? If They Cant Run D Biz They should drop out, its pure madness to privatize airlines and still expect subsidy from govt. Airline Biz Is A Specialized Field , not for glorified village men. |

This government just lies to us,like they're talking to a bunch of toddlers. Why is it someone from NNPC telling us about the problem in the aviation sector and not the airlines themselves. The logic here is just utterly silly, airlines arbitrarily raise ticket fees to cover expenses and no one bats an eye,the real users on the aviation fuel are the passengers since they would pay for it no matter what at the end of the day,so why will airlines stop fueling when passengers are still willing to fly? This government and it's lies hmm. 1 Like |

PapaBrowne: Its actually a pricing issue, brought about by the scarcity of the aviation fuel. ATK is actually now cheaper in Ghana than in Nigeria (by almost 30%) because the Ghanian govt removed a surcharge/reduced the tax paid by aviation marketers to govt. Nigerian fuel is now more expensive because its a deregulated market subject to the whims of demand and supply. Once there is a shortage of supply (as we are experiencing now due to the $$ issues) the price would shoot up. |
