I think the point he's trying to make is alot of 9ja people you meet in Nairobi want to speak to the locals in pidgin. We don't speak pidgin in these parts. Our pidgin is called Kiswahili, and is spoken by virtually all literate kenyans and Tanzanians. Half of DR Congo speaks it as well. Add to that number a significant number of Rwandans and Burundians. Few Ugandans but a growing number of South Sudanese born and bred in Kenya and who live in Kenya more than they do in their own country.
That makes kiswahili the only truly African language that has many cross border speakers, regardless of colonial history. The only truly African lingua franca.

Hausa is spoken in Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and some parts of Benin republic.

Yoruba is spoken in Nigeria, Benin republic and Togo.

Fulani is spoken in Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, Togo, Mali, Chad, etc

All am telling you is that we have many languages spoken across border here in West Africa too. Pigin English is very common not only in West Africa and it spoken by both literate and illiterate. What more can be indigenous to us.
