MtuMsuper: @iblawi,iansweet and co don't mind all this kanyans, I think they actually admire we Nigerians. I wonder what I will be doing on a Kenyan forum when I neither stay there or even plan on going there So the other day I decided to check out what Kenyan music looks and a Kenyan: Akothee in her song titled benefactor sang in very fluent Nigerian pidgin English and the so called song is a top ten song over there @whoever I am quoting I have read countless articles of how Kenyans are becoming more interested in pidgin English. I wonder why you are telling lies here. Nigerian influence is massive in Africa ( kenya inclusive) due to our movies, music, political strengths and co. you must be one self hating Kenyan to deny this facts, I wonder why you guys hate Nigerians way e no even send una one bit. the best we Nigerians know about Kenya is that it's a country in Africa (honestly speaking) @pazienza your life must really suck and the way you dey hawk Igbo matters for head like bread is really worrisome, you go around nairaland portraying igbos in bad light when igbos are from this in reality smh 5 Likes |

darfay: You are pained obviously. Well, this generation of Ndiigbo are ICT savvy, we would never allow you lots to hijack the media and send falsehoods as facts to Africans against Ndiigbo, like Igbo frontrunners in 1960's did. All I ever did was debunk falsehood against Ndiigbo here, and false picture of ethnic harmonious Nigeria created by Yorubas to demote us, while elevating themselves. The question you should be asking yourself is this: Why are you comfortable with Ibalawi lies here, but angry that an Igbo is debunking them? 3 Likes |

PissedYagami: You are not far from the truth. Lighter skinned people tend to be more adored by people in tropical areas. With time i think this trend will change cos take US for instance, many dark skinned people have proven that dark skin can be equally beautiful when well maintained. But a lot of Africans also appreciate dark skinned people or don't you think? The only black african women to win the miss world and the miss universe titles from Nigeria and Angola werr not light skinned, they were dark to medium chocolate skinned and they were crowned in their respective countries before they went to represent their own countries at the world level. I dont know about Kenya but the current titles of the Miss Nigeria is not held by a light skinned lady. As for Lupitia i admire her but i think there are dark skinned African and African-american ladies who look better than her, e.g Somalia's Iman, Nigeria's Genevieve Nnaji and many others. |

pazienza: So hillarious that we never hear or see Igbo political and traditional leaders canvass for seccesion. What about the top igbo business men, elites, clerics and elderstatesmen? Why don't we ever hear them advocate for Biafra or seccession? This is quite puzzling i must say. The reason why Nigerians will never take agitatitions from some misguided youths and street urchins any serious. I interract on daily basis with educated and enlightened Igbo minds, i never hear them talk about Biafra or seccesion or even mention it. Chukwu okike Obimo indeed. 2 Likes |

Muafrika2: The problem with you guys is that you take things personal so much. Gosh! I mean, that's so immature. You guys must be very temperamental individuals. I doubt if you guys can engage in a critical debate or conversation without flaring up or exploding. Only insecured people behave that way. If you tell me for instance that you observed that Ghanaians are more easy going, warmer and polite than Nigerians, i just cannot take it personal. The best i'd do is to explain reasons why you think so, make you know the section of Nigerians who are more agressive than the others and the reason for such perception, i mean, that wouldn't hurt, would it? I also acknowledged the fact that Kenyans are better entrepreneurs, but it seems you guys never noticed that or you just chose to ignore it and attack me. |

darfay:Yemi Alade sang a song in kiswahili in a collabo with kenyan artists. Does that mean Kenya is "taking over" Nigeria ? I can actually speak and write in German, does that make me "germanified"(for lack of a better word)? That kenyan singer, who isn't my cup of tea btw, sang for market capture purposes? ianSweet:Thanks for the good intro on the peoples of Nigeria. Most Nigerians i have met are igbo. I have ever met only 1 hausa. Several Yoruba people as well and i have a very good Berom friend. We Africans are like that, we like to know about the culture and identity of people who look like us. Unlike many Africans though, i don't have some toxic ethnicity aka tribalism. Which brings me to my point : its plain foolhardy to say ethnic sentiments did not influence voting patterns in Nigeria. They always do. That's why someone like Salva Kiir(an ethnic Dinka) in South Sudan cannot get votes from a majority Nuer area whose favorite son is his arch nemesis Riek Machar. Its why the northern Ugandan tribes will never put their eggs into Museveni's basket : the resentment from the civil war in which a northern leadership was ousted by museveni still simmers to to this day. It's also why Raila in Kenya cannot get votes from Central Kenya, or Uhuru from luo dominated former nyanza province. The tribesmen of GEJ equally voted overwhelmingly for him, as did other nationalities in the Nigerian SS and SE. There is no doubt that ethnicity and political affiliation are closely related in Africa. Even our dear neighbours ,Tanzania ,had an election in which there was an overwhelming support from the Kilimanjaro tribes such as the chagga, for the opposition party Chadema: the vast majority of opposition Chadema legislators come from the Mt Kilimanjaro region. These things aren't coincidences. Its important to study these correlations in order to understand the political realities of a realm. Heck, even in the USA, whites voted for Trump irrespective of their donkeyness or elephantness. Blacks overwhelmingly gave Hillary Clinton their votes. We, all of us Africans, have still not learnt the fine art of managing the fact of ethnicity. Instead, we use it negatively. What a shame. 2 Likes |

ianSweet: The reason why ladies of lighter complexion are more popular by Africans is simply a case of supply and demand. There are more naturally dark ladies than light ones since we are blacks hence a lighter shade is rare and hence more glorified. I have been to a country like Namibia where most ladies are usually very slim and a lot of men seem to love ladies that are more endowed. If there is excess supply of one this, people will just want what is rarer and that is just a law of the universe. As for Lupita, she has been recognized as a most beautiful woman not only because of her looks but because of how she caries herself and what she has achieved. For example I have never heard of the ladies you have mentioned maybe I have seen them but I don't know them but Lupita is a household name. She has won an Oscar, champions for conservation of elephants, has been interviewed in the most popular talk shows in the US(Ellen etc), her dressing options have been discussed so much in Hollywood and has graced the cover of Vogue magazine 3 times which is a feat very many celebrities even American ones have not achieved !! Her speech at the Oscar's has words that have been echoed by so many people. I will quote the last words 'When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid. Thank you.' She has won an Oscar. How many Africans have an Oscar on their belt? Even for the entire black race there are so few winners. That is what makes her great. She has a brilliant and very radiant personality that makes her look very sexy. Just listen to one of her interviews and you will know why. With regards to the Miss World events. I believe it is next to impossible for a light skin African lady to win the title. Why? Because to be honest Portericans and the Latinos would look more beautiful than a light skinned African model. The dark shade also represents authenticity since we are a black race and hence the originality of Africa is represented. |

darfay: First off I will address why I came to this forum. I am here because I have been to Nigeria on business and I am going to be there again on February. So I like being abreast with what is going on there. Security, how I am going to entertain myself etc since I will be there for a while. I have seen several Nigerians on the Kenyan forum as well. Second, Kenyans do not admire anything about your politics and economics. And I am being honest. African politics is riddled with corruption, greed etc so no one looks upto you on that. Now entertainment(music and movies) is one this that every African country admires about Nigeria. The industry is very mature and local content production and consumption has been promoted so much. For Kenya we have a lot of imported music even though we have local music. You can listen to Nigerian music, South African Kwaito, Ghanaian music, Congolese music in diverse clubs. About Kenyans being interested in pidgin English, it's just from your music. The only terms Kenyans know are Oga, Big Broda and that's it. In fact on my first trip to Lagos I thought I knew the gist of pidgin and could easily understand it since it has a lot of English but when I got to Lagos is when I realized it is so deep. About Nigerians not knowing anything about Kenya while Kenyans know a thing or 2 about Nigeria. In the Kenyan education system, you have to undertake a subject called Social Studies from around age 4-14. There you are taught about majority of the African countries, their history, geography and demography. In fact we learn about your big 3 tribes at around class 7(age 13). And it is not only Nigeria, we learn about Congo, South Africa, Senegal, Mozambique,Zimbabwe etc. And these are tested in the exams. If you don't belive me ask me to send you pictures of some Kenyan textbooks and I will happily oblige. On the high school level if you specialize on History as a subject is gets even deeper There are things we would like to borrow from you and there are other influences we also do not want borrowed |

MtuMsuper:The President was doing well with his initiatives and most people admire him for it but he kept on rewarding criminals ho have been found to be corrupt with positions at the office of the President. Thereby surrounding himself with a block of inexperienced communicators who we're attacking the personalities of people who were criticising the government, which place the government in a bad light. There was an extremely high level of chronism and the corruption level was high. Many people were still going to forgive the government and vote for them for them including me, since majority of those cases were in court. But when I got to my the voting box, upon reflecting on how state protocols was mishandled; many people felt we needed a change after four years of a mishandled economy and we needed a government who wasn't going to drag it feet in prosecuting corrupt officials. Then there were the demographic issues, there were low turnouts on election day in the strong hold of the governing party because voters there thought they've been taken for a ride and short changed over the past four years whiles there was an unusual high turnout in the opposition strong hold whereby people in their 90s went out to vote. On the parliamentary side, the ruling government committed gerrymandering years ago by adding 45 more new parliamentary seats which was equally split in the last election, the opposition party placed more effort in winning almost all of those seats since the winning margin was quite slim and they won. And for the first time, everyone was expecting to see a party winning the presidency and having a minority in parliament. But the major issue was the demographic whereby people grew wealthier and more educated under this government than ever before and these two class of people turns out to favour the incoming party . These class of people largely forms the base of the NPP even though they might at times swing. As Ghanaians become wealthier their perspectives change as they form new social classes, the NDC would now have to restrategise and appeal more to the educated and middle class Ghanaian else they will remain in opposition for a very long time especially if this government does well. |

Just30:OK. So the NDC seems to be the party of the proletariat. Interesting, i didn't know that angle. Thanks for the candid assessment. Well, political (as opposed to economic ) corruption is something alot of people seem not to take care of. Even in Kenya, Uhuru protects his ministers and senior officials who have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar, to the seething ire of Kenyans. It's even more ludicrous when so called investigations never yield positives or prosecutions. They disappear from the limelight to "cool off " only to reappear back in the same role!! If the crap they do is so in your face, they get reassigned to another role elsewhere. I have seen this phenomenon all over Africa, morals and ethics count for jacksh1t. Talking of criminals in the National assembly or Senate ,we also got plenty plenty here too, it's no secret. We have a clause in the constitution called chapter 6 that deals with a person's eligibility to stand. We completely ignore that and go back to the jungle book of rules, which deep down most people are most comfortable with. We are a sick continent! 1 Like |

MtuMsuper:we have to punish our politicians at the polls as we continue on the road of citizens vigilante. Of late, our politicians have the tendencies of rewarding mediocrity. A least, the incoming government; seems to be shaking in their shoes with their appointments else they will face the same fate in the next election. There's hope, we're just watching how they will move us out of this economic quagmire. For now, all economic indicators are on the downward trend and growth will pick up at 7% .I would say, the NDC is a party for the masses . The NPP is an elites party |

iblawi: Don't mind that ignorant guy. Goodluck won 5 out of the 6 states in North-central and the FCT in 2011, even with his performance which most people complained of, Goodluck still won Plateau and Nasarawa states in 2015. He also won Taraba in 2015 too. Most northern minorities supported GEJ so much. This proves that politics in Nigeria is not always tribal or religious even though we know that both factors play significant roles. 1 Like 1 Share |

Mtumsuper again I reiterate that as much as ethnic and religious sentiments might play a role in our elections it's not the main determining factor and I will give you three examples to buttress mypoints. In the annulled 1993 presidential election MKO Abiola a Yoruba man from Ogun state defeated alhaji Tofa a Hausa/Fulani Muslim to the core in his home state of Kano. Second in 2003 in our presidential elections Obasanjo our president then defeated ojukwu in the SE region even though ojukwu was a respected Igbo leader who LED them during the Civil War and lastly in the 2015 elections buhari defeated Jonathan in Benue state even though it's made up of minority tribes who are mostly Christians. |

chrisooblog:Relax. WE are not saying tribal alliances are bad. We are saying they are a reality. FOR EXAMPLE: Kenya, 2003 - Majority Kenyan tribes formed an alliance against the Kalenjin and Kikuyu to defeat the ruling parties proposed presidential candidate, Kenya 2007 - Kalenjins and Luos formed an alliance against the Kikuyu candidate. It was so close that it led to violence. Kenya 2013 - Kalenjins United with Kikuyus against a Luo/ Luhya /Kamba coalition and won The political deal usually involves a vice president and sharing of government "loot" Now back to Nigeria ...2003 (Remember, Obasanjo is Yoruba) Looks to me like Igbos and Yorubas (they form the largest group) ganged up against the Fulani

However, Akothee is a Kenyan lady not known by most Nigerians but she sang in Nigerian pidgin. I think it's just her strategy to capture the Nigerian audience. It's a nice song tho and i like it. |

Muafrika2 guy are you arsene Wenger in disguise that you didn't see the other examples I cited anyway historical Yorubas and Igbos have never really voted en bloc like that any election cycle you see us voting the same it's usually circumstantial. 2011 Yorubas choose Jonathan 2015 buhari. 1983,1993 and 2007 Igbos mostly choose Hausa Fulani candidates 2003 Obasanjo. Please post the profile of buhari's running mate in 2011 |
