But to answer your question, Afonja is actuaally a historic figure in in Yoruba culture.

I am not a Yoruba person, but while I had never ascribed the name to anyone, I actually don't think the name in itself is derogatory.

It's just like someone calling you Ojukwu or any other historic figure from igbo extraction.

Plus I think her calling you by that name is a valid proof that she did not believe that an igbo person can actually create this type of thread here.

But please note that the above is sure not to justify the idea of tagging crude and derogatory names to anyone (irespective of their tribes).

As far as I am concerned, afonja has always been used in a derogatory manner in this forum. Secondly, she called me an I.diot even after deleting the post which most people will not. That I deleted the post is not an act of cowardice but to satisfy whoever felt bad about my post. And for people to take turns to insult in whatever guise is totally unacceptable. We are all entitled to our opinions and in doing that, we must consider other people's feelings. I deleted the post not because am a push about but to let peace reign, not that what I posted was falsehood in any form.

She is not the only person that posted in that thread but her choice of words leave little to be imagined.
