I think that is an unfair analysis of the goal. Alonso had his position well covered which forced K. Walker to giveup the ball, Matic got carried away and lost track of Erickson, who was his primary responsibility. Matic dug too deep into Walker, thus was late. Did you even notice how high Cahil was defending?

If a cross comes in from a central position and a CB goes walkabout it is on the CB.

How do you step up to cover Alonso and lose sight of your responsibility? Cahil was too high, Matic bite too deep into Walker who already gave up the ball, the back line were horrendous at keeping Dele offside.

P.S: I am not saying Alonso is not without blame, however, the other culprits are just as responsible.

On both Occassions Alli is attacking Azpilicueta. Alli is taller than Azpi and better in the air. If Cahill stays compact then he can take Kane and Luiz takes Alli....but Cahill clearly feels he can't trust Alonso so he steps up, Luiz is forced to follow 6'4 Kane about and hope that Azpi can deal with Alli.

If Alonso could be trusted, none of that happens. Stop the cross, stop thr goal. Pedro is now playing left back because Alonso's ineptitude has been glaring.
