I currently live and work in Lagos. While I live in Surulere, I work on the Island and I earn about 140k monthly. I have just been transferred to Port Harcourt effective immediately but before I set out, I will like to get information as to whether it is a good move which will be favourable for me in terms of difference between cost of living in Lagos and Port Harcourt as well as cost of accommodation. Thirdly, for a person whose office is on D-Line, what areas will be advisable to get a suitable accommodation in Port Harcourt that won't take me up to 20 minutes to get to the office.

Please I need your inputs to help me plan my movement. Thanks.

You can find a nice place to live within DLine but apartments especially studio apartments cost more to rent at the heart of town so moving to the outskirts is what sane people do.

U can stay in d line, ogunabali or waterline area. U go survive with your small salary, the difference between Lagos and PH not really much. Same as Lagos where u ve rich peeps and poor peeps area in surulere, also in portharcourt.

My brother it depends on your lifestyle. If u like groove like branching after work parole then u can get a place in Oroazi (Steady Light with rent about N400k for 1bedroom) or u want to live like a normal guy with disturbing neighbours den go to Ogbunabali which is a walking distance from dline. Me i stay in rumuola and I work in trans amadi and I get to work under 10 mins cos I get to my office b4 6.15am after that u can spend 1hr on the road

Thanks for your awesome and helpful contribution, but I hope the Ogunabali and Waterline you mentioned are not far from D Line? Secondly, how much is someone likely to get a nice two bedroom apartment in these areas (D Line, Ogunabali and Waterside). Thanks. You too much

in terms of expenses

Just have a budget of 250k for 1 bedroom flat or 180 for single room self contain if you'll be staying anywhere around dline.
And be informed that the rooms are tiny and can't accommodate more than 2 people.
I work at onne but I stay at odili road which is more expensive compared to dline.
You can stay at eliozu where they have more cheaper houses which is of standard. And t.Fare from eliozu to won't cost more that 300 naira daily to and fro.

don't go close to the aforementioned areas... Beware of cult gangs... Especially dline. Ogunabali is densely populated. Either way traffic won't keep u more than an hour in any area of port Harcourt if you know your route around.
Houses are expensive everywhere close to dline. The average u can get one bedroom flat is 250k.

oga Ph go better for u o

since the office is in D-line, u can get an apartment at garrison, D-line, no need for transportation(so u saved that part)

and Ph is more serene than lagos.

On a lighter note, some people have 'issue' with assimilation.
The OP was asking for suggestion(s) on:
1. the best place he could stay where transportation won't be more than 20mins drive to his workplace
2. The cost of living/accomodation in Port
NOT about the security and how safe the state is.

Everything is for nairaland.

Find an apartment at rumola or rumuigbo,if you have a car moving around isn't such a problem.

As for cost of living, it all depends on the area you intend staying. Generally though, houses in Port Harcourt are more expensive than houses in Lagos (except highbrow areas).

They are almost the same.Meanwhile if u are single and not intend to go into marriage soonest,then why can't you forget about two bedroom,go for cheaper accomodation and save the money for investments or any alternative source of income.

depending on how the area you are staying. I have been in Port Harcourt for 5 years and never encountered them not even for once.

Living in PHC is more expensive despite the fact that accommodation is cheaper in PHC. But if you don't mind staying in Woji or Abuloma (which I feel is a bit cheaper than D-Line and Ogbunabali in terms of accommodation), you may fare better - and I am assuming you are still single.
Meanwhile, groove no dey PHC except you be clubbing person.

My guy,pls don't look for an apartment in ogbunabali..just like the name implies(night killers),them go wele u there and you'll pay for matching ground.Rumuola,Oro-azi,Rumukalagbor,Orowuruko(st.johns).a one bedroom goes for #300,000.

Ogunabali, waterlines or any place around garrison. A self con in garrison is 180k, one bedroom flat is 250k and above depending on its tuishness
