For thirty years? I think we should look more at the problem: appointment of young Northern judges and old Southern judges to the Supreme Court. Second, the NJC should be sending the name DIRECT to the Senate to ensure independence. First line charge in the constitution is not enough

What could be his reasons for not forwarding the name? May he doesn't like him. Anyway the law is there to determine who merit to be appointed. Let him follow the law. But if he is using the law for self serving then he cast shadow on the war on corruption. For me I think PMB should confirm him. Most of his sensitive appointment has been skewed favourably to the north. He behave as if the party will not come to campaign again in 2019.

PMB should find another competent Southern lawyer or Law Professor, within the constitutional provisions, with no taint of corruption and reccommend his/her name the NJC for review & approval.

The era of automatic CJN succession from the current pool of patently corrupt Supreme Court justices must STOP NOW.

In fact, Criminal Supreme Court justices, Ngwuta & Okolo, who are now undergoing corruption trial would have become CJN under this automatic succession, corrupt tradition.

The 1999 constitution gave too much powers to the president as such, he is bound to misbehave.
It is high time we clamour for total autonomy of every arm of the government
The era when the president decides who becomes what in the Senate, House of reps and Judiciary should go
When every arm of the government can work and decide independently without fear of interference from the presidency
we will have a better situation and better decisions at all levels in Nigeria.

Some of the sanctioned judges at the time were shown the way out of the Bench for persistent reputation for corruption.

All these are calculations towards 2019. From experience, Onnoghen is an independent minded judge who has always been known for giving dissenting judgements. He gave a judgment in favour of Buhari some years back against the ruling party and has a history of doing such.

Now, Buhari's caucus know that they can't win 2019 elections fair and square, hence they are trying to use underhand tactics to get the judiciary on lock down. Unfortunately for them, Onnoghen as the CJN would sit as the Presiding Judge over the Presidential elections and they know he can't be cowed. That exactly is why they are looking for a more malleable Judge they can influence.

Buhari is not ignorant of what Mamman Daura, Abba Kyari, Babachir David Lawal and co are doing as he is tacitly in support. It's a game of good cop/bad cop. He's acting all innocent for the others to look guilty, but he's in the plots being woven around him.
