hammerF: I think u igbos are just being selfish or trying to play too smart which will not work. U cannot just handpick the minority groups you want to go with you to Biafra. It will never work that way. You have go first of all gain some form of regional unity and acceptance through a united system and quality leadership with these minority groups before these minority groups would be able to entrust themselves to you. Nobody would want to jump from the frying pan to the fire. Do u remember late Maj Gideon Orkar? He was a middlebelter who believed that a united middlebelt and southern Nigeria without the core-north would be a very succesful country and believe me, truly it would have been as we all know that the core-northernerns (hausa-fulani and kanuris) are the ones dragging Nigeria bakckwards in a lot of ways. If Gideon Orkar's coup had succeeded, be rest assured that hausa-fulanis would have been together with Niger republic by now. Gideon never fought for the middlebelt alone but for both the middlebelt and the south. A united south and middlebelt is the only cure to hausa-fulani madness and hegemony, believe me. The british empowered these people a lot and as long as they are in Nigeria, getting Biafra will never be possible unless through a very bloody war. |

Redbonesmith1: IANSWEET ABEG CONFIRM THAT THIS IS CORRECT. @Redbonesmith1, SO 4 UR MIND BECOS OF THESE FEW SIMILAR WORDS IGALA NOW SOUND YORUBA? MY ADVICE TO U, IS TO ACTUALLY GO ON YOUTUBE AND LISTEN TO WAT IGALA ACTUALLY SOUNDS LIKE. THEN LISTEN TO YORUBA. |

hammerF: Boy, go and rest. You asked for a word. One word. I gave you over 40. You come back and say it is few. Do you want a dictionary? Go online or to a freaking library and read about how West African languages are classified, and the constituent languages in the Yoruboid language cluster. In the 21st century, no enlightened Nigerian should still be questioning whether Igala is Yoruboid or not. |

Redbonesmith1: WELL, SORRY TO DISAPPOINT U, I AM QUESTIONING THAT CLAIM TO THE LATTER. WE HAVE SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES WITH IGBO AND BINI, BUT U DONT HEAR ANYBODY CALL BINI AN IGBOID LANGUAGE DO U? I INSIST THAT U GO ON YOUTUBE AND LISTEN TO IGALA SPEAKERS AND THEN LISTEN TO YORUBA. I UNDERSTAND YORUBA AND COULD NOT HEAR A SINGLE WORD IN IGALA. IGALA SOUDS MORE SIMILAR WITH IDOMA. |

WAT U DID WITH IGALA LANGUAGE AND YORUBA, COULD BE REPEATED WITH IGBO AND YORUBA. THERE ARE MANY WORDS IN BOTH LANGUAGES THAT ARE THE SAME. HERE IS JUST A FEW. English: Ear Yoruba: Eti Igbo: Ntị English: Nose Yoruba: imú Igbo: Imi English: Stone Yoruba: Okuta Igbo: Okute English: Amen Yoruba: Ase Igbo: Ise English: A Twin Yoruba: Ejire Igbo: Ejime/Ejima English: What Yoruba: Kini Igbo: Gini English: He/she said Yoruba: Oso Igbo: Osi |

hammerF: I feel like telling you how Yoruboid-Edoid-Igboid are related languages, which are in turn related to Nupoid-Oko-Idomoid, but I know I will be wasting my time because, clearly you do not know anything in the field of African linguistics. Yoruba's relatedness to Igala (a Yoruboid language) is much more closer than its relatedness to Igbo (a non-Yoruboid language). Just like Bini's relatedness to Urhobo (an Edoid language) is much more closer than its relatedness to Igbo (a non-Edoid language). On a more removed plane, all these languages are ultimately distantly related. Do you understand this simple explanation? |

ianSweet: THIS IS THE PROBLEM, EVERYBODY SCARED OF IGBOS, BUT DID THE THOUGHT EVER CROSS UR MINDS THAT U GUYS HAVE GIVEN IGBOS MORE REASON TO BE SCARED OF THE LOT OF YOU? U THINK IGBOS WILL RISK FURTHER ASSOCIATION WITH YORUBAS AFTER WAT THEY DID IN BIAFRA AND GEJ? EVEN THE MIDDLE-BELT, U THINK IGBOS WOULD BE HAPPY TO SHARE COUNTRY WITH GOWON PEOPLE AND DANJUMA PEOPLE? WE ARE MORE SCARED OF THE LOT OF U THAN U ACTUAL THINK. THAT IS Y WE HAVE SELECTED A HANDFUL THAT ARE OUR NEIGHBOR AND SHARE CULTURES WITH US. THEY DECIDE WHETHER TO JOIN OR NOT, IT IS NOT MANDATORY. WITHOUT BIAFRA WAR, NNAMDI AZIKIWE AGREED TO GIVE SADAUNA (AHMADU BELLO) A MAJORITY IN PARLIAMENT, SO THEY CAN AGREE TO BE NIGERIANS. WE ALL KNOW, HOW THAT TURNED OUT. TODAY, IGBOS ARE NOT PREPARED TO TAKE SUCH RISKS AGAIN, WE TOO DEY FEAR. 1 Like |

Redbonesmith1: Most of these words are correct. Igalas share many words in common with yoruba but we also share so many words in common with the igbos too and the shift is gradual. The more southern u go in Igala, the more igbo the words become due to our boundary with Igbos. I am not so fluent with igala because i grew up in the north speaking more of hausa but i can also make a very long list of similar igbo and igala words. Do u know that we southern igalas (Ibaji people) are called ORLU? because we are riverine people and this is exactly the name for riverine Igbos. Igala and igbos share the same market days with exactly the same names for instance. Abacha is Cassava in Igala/Igbo Osikapa is rice in igala/igbo Oko, Okoro/Okolo is same in Igala/Igbo Akpati is box in igala/Igbo Ajogwu is warrior in both igala/igbo Atama is used as chief priest in both lang Achadu/Asadu means same thing in both lang Infact if u compare Igala and Enugu dialects of Igbo especially, the similarities in words are innumerable. Not to talk of similarities in names with Igbos. Most igala names sound igbo, however many also sound like Yoruba too. In terms of language, Igala sounds more like yoruba but as u shift into southern igala, it starts sounding more like Igbo, by the time u enter Anambra/Enugu and hear Igala speakers there it is almopst sounding like Igbo and infact most igalas there are becoming Igbonized. In terms of culture, Igbo and igala share so much similarities, infact u may not be able to differentiate Nsukka igbos and Igalas, the masquerades we use are almost the same. The truth is that Igalas are the connectors (bridge) between yoruba and Igbo cultures and languages and should be appreciated by both, we shared boundary with both yorubas and Igbos for centuries until the Igbirras came and cut us off with the yorubas. That is why u see that Egbirras do not have much in common with yorubas except in clothes. |

Redbonesmith1: BRO, I KNOW WE ARE RELATED TO YORUBA AND THE MIDDLE-BELT, BUT THE WAY THEY HAVE TREATED US, IS NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT. THAT IS Y WE WILL BE DISTANT COUSINS AFTER NIGERIA. IGBOS NO GO EVER AGREE TO JOIN COUNTRY WITH YORUBA. WE WILL BE TWO PARALLEL LINES THAT WILL NEVER MEET. AS FOR THE MIDDLE-BELT WE WILL HELP LIBERATE THEM FROM HAUSA-FULANI BUT THEY MUST BE ON THEIR OWN. WE MIGHT HAVE FORGIVEN THEM BUT WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN WAT THEY DID. PARTICULARLY THE MILITARY MEN AMONGST THEM THAT HELD OFFICE OF INFLUENCE DURINGTHE BIAFRA WAR. THE IGALA AND IDOMA ARE A DIFFERENT CASE, PEOPLE ALWAYS FORGIVE THEIR BROTHER. EVEN IF HE KILL U. |

hammerF: Even the so called geo-political zones are not constitutional, it was something started by Babangida which Nigeria is now overblowing. Check our constitution, no geo-political zones. Middlebelt is just ethnically diverse just like Niger delta and that is why it is difficult for all the ethnic groups to fully unite under a common voice. You cannot fight a powerful force without joining forces. Even among u Igbos, there will be saboteurs. 1 Like |

ianSweet: Sis, I do not dispute anything you have said. Igala no longer shares geographical continuity with Yorubaland. They have been in direct contact more with Igbo and Idoma than with Yoruba for many centuries. As a result, their language has been undergoing modification under Igbo and Idoma exposure. I am aware of many words shared in common with the Igbos, especially the Igalas of Ibaji area. I also know that in Aguleri, they call Ibaji Olu people. Ibaji and Aguleri are in fact, practically kin. So i am in no way denying southern Igala's connection with Igbo. Despite this, the overall structure of Igala language is basically Yoruboid. Attama and Asadu are not Igbo words. Nsukka people borrowed it from Igala. You will not find them outside Nsukka area. Igala and Igbo borrowed or corrupted osikapa from Hausa shinkafa. But I do get your point. I don't dispute the main premise of your write-up. |

You can join their group "Proudly Anioma, Proudly Igbo" on Facebook. Mind you, Osita Mordi is an Ika fellow. As for the time being, I'll take your statistic as mere exaggeration. Redbonesmith1:Oh, my apology, please. This solidify my position on the fact that Delta Igbos are migrant from different direction, but Igbos having the upper hand because of proximity, early aboriginal movement and population. So, ibu diali. |

blues20:there's no aboriginal movement by the Igbo in Anioma. If there is any upper hand, it's population. Igbos population and influence is far far higher than Edo's and Igala's put together. And Igbos are known for exporting their language and culture wherever they go. And colonialism, Christianity and music, movies have a role to play. |

blues20: Actually, Illah's name is from the Igala word is Alla, which means temporary settlement. Probably because it was originally a stop-over post for Igalas travelling up and down the river. The fact that the name of the town is Igala indicates that Igalas were there first. Igbo elements came later. 1 Like |

ianSweet: The people that should be more concerned are those left behind. Everything they fear would happen to dem. Igbo was once like them, very trusting and we paid the price heavily, now we are wiser. U urself said the middle belt is chaos of many small groups that are not united. We want to avoid that. The yorubas, we would have loved to share country with, if for nothing, at least our properties in Lagos. But experience have taught us that is a bad idea, we will sacrifice Lagos for the stability we will gain in the long run. Mind u, there are also negotiation to bring in Southwest Cameroon into Biafra, they also want to leave Cameroon. There will be more than enough groups to balance Igbo population. We will have written agreement in our constitution on power rotation and also laws to protect minority languages. Unless u have other group in middlebelt u cannot do without. (Ebira are welcomed but they should ask.) I dont know wat u lot are scared of, becos our intentions are good, not bad. 1 Like |

Cire80:You, ehn, you talk like a sissy sometimes... what makes you think Igbos are not aborigine to places like Asaba, Onistha, Oshimili and the rest, before the arrival of other group? Have you read the narrative of Oluada Equino..... researchers have drawn conclusion, that he was actually from Western Igbo. He made references to Idu influences on his people and other practices that are prevalent in places like Ndokwa of today. Don't forget that Oluada referred himself as an Igbo in his write-up. This was before anything like Nigeria came into existence. |
Re: 23 Year Old : Obi Nduka Ezeagwuna II Crowned 20th Obi Of Issele-uku - Pictures by Cire80: 1:01pm On Jan 11, 2017 |
blues20:Asaba was founded by Igala, Onitsha was by Bini, there is no place like Oshimili, many towns in Oshimili say they're from Bini and most of the Ndokwas say they're from Bini and other Bendel groups including Esan, Urhobo/Isoko, Ijaw, and Anioma areas. As for Oludua of a guy, nobody knows where he's from. I even read a debate by Osita Mordi and some Igbos where they were analysing this topic. Many of the things he wrote about didn't add up. If you're vast in Igbo history you'll understand what I mean. He was too young to have known most of the things he wrote about. And Oludua never called himself Igbo. He said he was Ebo. If actually he is Aboh, then Aboh is what he meant by Eboh because the real name of Aboh is Eboh. The name is still in use in the Ndokwa Ukwani area till date |

Cire80:Dude, your own version of history ehn, I wonder where you are pulling 'em out from. Eboh is the old way of spelling Igbo. This just metamorphosis of words over time. So if Oluada is not Igbo, why did he mention ichi marks wore by the nri nobility? Why do you guys like twisting history just to suit your political purpose? And how do you mean Asaba and Onitsha was founded by the Binis and Igalas? Please, forward your historical record and let see. Not those stupid folklore story you deceive yourselves with. 1 Like |
Re: 23 Year Old : Obi Nduka Ezeagwuna II Crowned 20th Obi Of Issele-uku - Pictures by Cire80: 1:47pm On Jan 11, 2017 |
blues20: read and balance my comment. Igbos concluded that Eboh was the old way of spelling Igbo because of Equano's book but they may be wrong or right. I don't know if there's any other proof of that being the old way of spelling Igbo. But I can tell you categorically that Eboh is the right spelling of Aboh. That's how the Ukwanis and surrounding areas pronounce it. Reason some people are of the opinion that the Ebo he talked about was Aboh and not Igbo. But as for the Ichi marks, that's one of the reason some scholars said he's not from Aboh because many of the things he wrote about don't t exist in Aboh. Some ascribe different origins to him and me that knows little about the subject find it hard to know which version to go for because all of them have valid points. Now you see how confusing it all is? So don't try to use this as a valid argument of Anioma Igboness. He never called himself Igbo. That's just my point |

Cire80:I just modified my response to you.... can you throw more light on the founding of Onitsha and Asaba by the Binis and Igala. Please, use historical records, not tales by moonlight. Could be that Oluadah is Igbo from the Western part of the Niger with knowledge on the Inri culture. |
