I dislike it when children lavish money on funerals of parents they failed to take care of while they were alive. Old age should not be a curse for a life well lived. You may have many strong reasons not to take care of your aging or aged parents, but those reasons do not change the fact that your opportunity at life in the first instance came through them.

Now that you feel you cannot fix them into your budget, you've suddenly forgotten that you were the only budget they had at some point. Some parents sold their cloths to feed their children or send them to school. No matter how small your budget may be, put them somewhere in there. The least thing you give to them may propel the blessing you require for your next level.

Don't wait till it's too late, take care of them now. The same applies to spiritual parents or whoever is in our lives as parent-figures. Let's make them happy and let them bless us from their hearts.

And as new or emerging parents, let us commit to raising our children in the way of the Lord, so that we can have rest when old age comes.

Agreed, but I don't think committing your children to the way of the Lord is the answer. The way you treat your parents probably matters more.

Committing your children in the way of the Lord helps you to be assured that they are well behaved and grow to become good citizens to their country.

So before the lord came werent people taking care of their children ??
Religion has finished us in Nigeria. Common etiquette has been replaced by Myopic thoughts. A good child will be a good child irrespective of religion, creed, association et al. It hapoens vice versa as well.
And this gat me thinking. We claim to be religious and have faith in Nigeria, but the worse crimes still happen here. Even the europeans that brought religion have dumped it. The Arabs that brought Islam have relaxed the system to a large extent. But we here carry the matter for head and we keep going backwards. I just have this feeling that our race is cursed
