I want to be a Data Scientist! I am learning to be a Data Scientist!! I am a Data Scientist!!! All I can think of is Big data and the information lying therein, extracting such high value information is my interest and it is what I am pursuing. I crave a platform where idea, learning and cognate experience can be shared and where a team can be established thus I decide to create this topic for contributions, learning and working. All form of contributions is welcomed. 1 Like |

All courses are available as self-paced learning on https://bigdatauniversity.com/ On completion of the 3 courses, participants must submit their scores with screen shots of Course Progress, Badge Information and Completion Certificate. This is the only way to guarantee a placement at the bootcamp. It is purely FIRST-COME, FIRST SERVED. 2 COMPULSORY COURSES 1) DATA SCIENCE 101 (3 HOURS) a. The art of uncovering the insights and trends in data has been around since ancient times. The ancient Egyptians used census data to increase efficiency in tax collection and they accurately predicted the flooding of the Nile river every year. Since then, people working in data science have carved out a unique and distinct field for the work they do, this field is data science. In this course, we will meet some data science practitioners and we will get an overview of what data science is today. b. https://bigdatauniversity.com/courses/data-science-101/ 2) MACHINE LEARNING WITH PYTHON (4 HOURS) a. Machine Learning can be an incredibly beneficial tool to uncover hidden insights and predict future trends. This free Machine Learning with Python course will give you all the tools you need to get started with supervised and unsupervised learning. b. https://bigdatauniversity.com/courses/machine-learning-with-python/ 1 ELECTIVE COURSE (Pick 1 from any of these) 3) R 101 ( 5 HOURS) a. R is a powerful language for data analysis, data visualization, machine learning, statistics. Originally developed for statistical programming, it is now one of the most popular languages in data science. In this course, you'll be learning about the basics of R, and you'll end with the confidence to start writing your own R scripts. But this isn't your typical textbook introduction to R. You're not just learning about R fundamentals, you'll be using R to solve problems related to movies data. Using a concrete example makes the learning painless. You will learn about the fundamentals of R syntax, including assigning variables and doing simple operations with one of R's most important data structures -- vectors! From vectors, you'll then learn about lists, matrix, arrays and data frames. Then you'll jump into conditional statements, functions, classes and debugging. Once you've covered the basics - you'll learn about reading and writing data in R, whether it's a table format (CSV, Excel) or a text file (.txt). Finally, you'll end with some important functions for character strings and dates in R. b. https://bigdatauniversity.com/courses/r-101/ 4) DATA SCIENCE METHODOLOGY (5 HOURS) a. Learn the major steps involved in tackling a data science problem. b. Learn the major steps involved in practicing data science, with interesting real-world examples at each step: from forming a concrete business or research problem, to collecting and analyzing data, to building a model, and understanding the feedback after model deployment. c. https://bigdatauniversity.com/courses/data-science-methodology-2/ 5) DATA SCIENCE HANDS-ON WITH OPEN SOURCE TOOLS (5 HOURS) · In data science, the opportunity to practice may seem overwhelming initially in terms of the access and configuration of tools. Here is where Data Scientist Workbench, a free cloud-based offering, comes into play. Use this tool to build out your skills! · https://bigdatauniversity.com/courses/data-science-hands-open-source-tools/ 6) NOSQL AND DBAAS 101 (5 HOURS) · With the advent of Big Data and agile development methodologies, NoSQL databases have gained a lot of relevance. Their main advantage is the ability to handle effectively scalability and flexibility issues for modern applications. · Use the Cloudant NoSQL database as an example to learn how to create and replicate databases, load and query data, and other operations. · https://bigdatauniversity.com/courses/introduction-nosql-dbaas/ *TO CONFIRM YOUR BOOKING, PLEASE SEND YOUR 3 CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION to kayode_ledipo@yahoo.com or via WhatsApp to 08037916948* Deadline is for 15th of January to send in your certificates/progress score/bar graph and whatsapp number Regards, Kayode 2 Likes |

I just completed the data science track with R on www.datacamp.com I would like to meet people that are using this software or want to learn |
Re: Dais For Data Scientist by Tobi9ja(m): 9:37am On Jul 22, 2017 |
alinnorugo: Hi, I just started learning R but I haven't completed any courses yet. I learn quickly using eBooks and videos freely available online. Kaggle is also a good website to rank your skills by completing competitions. I'm yet to submit my entries for the titanic competition but I'm learning R rather quickly because of previous experience in using Matlab. I like thinking and discussing about opportunities available in Nigeria for BigData and ML so I'm glad this is going on. Let's keep this thread going! |

2nd Data Science Bootcamp – Face to face machine learning expert classes One of the distinct features of this 2nd edition is a strong focus on machine learning algorithms and the fundamental principles behind them from theory and real world practice. When do you use Naïve Bayes, Random Forest, SVM, SVD, PCA, Logistics regression etc. We understand that this knowledge conversation requires a face to face, hands-on teaching and not a dial-in calling, hence a plan to have a dedicated expert on-ground throughout the 4 days. I am very excited to introduce a world-class Data scientist, consultant and a Research fellow at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. If you use Kaggle, please check for the first Nigerian name on the Titanic project leaderboard, where he stands on position No 16 out of the 7,030 global data scientist teams who have competed on it. I am 6 points behind him on the same leaderboard at position 21. https://www.kaggle.com/c/titanic/leaderboard Dr Sulaimon Afolabi has extensively applied machine learning in solving health, population, business and social issues and he shall be flying to the country as the Programme on-ground expert for the 4 days, focussing on theories of machine learning algorithms plus statistical underpinning that a data scientists must know in applying any algorithm. I think it is worth it to score 100% in all the 3 pre-class courses with proven understanding of the fundamentals which must later be used to push hard to the final qualification Kaggle competition as the best way to secure one of the 100+ bootcamp seats. See you at the top and have a great week. 1 Like |
