If the NYSC Scheme is no longer sustainable, then why should the one-year national service for Nigerian graduates be made compulsory ?

With the increasing number of students who graduates from universities and polytechnics every academic year, it is obvious that the scheme can no longer cater for the hundreds of thousands of graduates for the compulsory one-year national service, even government ministries, agencies as place of primary assignment of corps members now reject corps members due to their large population, hence the scheme is no longer in tune with modern realities.

Consequently, it is high time the NYSC is converted to mainly entrepreneurship scheme and should be made voluntary for the Nigerian graduates who are interested in entrepreneurship programmes, as such will create pool of entrepreneurs who will initiate widespread of entrepreneurial activities and empowerment of the youth, and that will eventually bring about economic development in the country.

In addition, the government should re-introduce the Nigerian language policy in schools which will mandate the teaching of three Nigerian languages at the Junior Secondary Schools, and also include them in senior secondary schools' curriculum. The media - the press, radio and television should also take up major roles that would facilitate the emergence of an indigenous national language which will enhance national unity and cohesion in the country, by educating, motivating and mobilizing the government and people towards the selection of an appropriate local language.
