aamstih:The minimum funding I have seen for PhD students in my field (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) is a living stipend of $21,000 per annum, that is in addition to full tuition waivers and usually health insurance. Some require working about 20hrs per week as a TA while some do not even require any teaching assistantship duties at all. Generally, Life sciences are well funded. Also,it is easier to get funding for PhD compared to Masters in any field. I hope I have answered your question. 2 Likes |

OGreene: There is a reason this thread was started and to that end, why we come here to report scores and share tips. May be you think it is to gloat or appear scholarly but you'd be sorely mistaken. People generally report scores so that others could among other things: 1. Learn what they did to achieve such scores 2. Help evaluate the profiles 3. Recommend schools, tips, scholarships etc. You have seen others give reports on their GRE experiences and in doing so, thank certain people. It is beyond establishing contacts away from NL. I am almost certain people did that because of the information they gained from such people that aided their preparations and eventual success(es). Consequently, I am disappointed that you who at various points sought and gained tidbits here that must have helped you attain your score decided to keep mum with the report you owe the house. Perhaps, you may think your account would make no difference but you should also take note, that everyone's experience and preparation would not be exactly alike. Afterall, we have seen people who got a composite of 310 and yet their experiences were completely different. 11 Likes |

For those who have ever applied to European universities for MSc or PhD studies....has anyone ever heard of Residence certificate? Some European Universities are demanding for it, and I am in dire need of one to submit alongside some documents. If you've ever obtained one, how did you do it? |

Hello house, I am new here, just finished my masters programme in Economics from UNILAG and considering writing GRE, here 're the questions I want to ask 1. what is the current cost of GRE 2. what re the subject combination 3. How many questions does the exam entails 4. Relevant materials 5. How is the scores computed 6. For schools in America, is it a must I write TOEFL or it depends on the institution looking forward to your prompt response |

I know why this thread exists. If i didn't regard this thread, i wouldnt even have posted after my exams. Some others wrote yesterday and last week, have any of them posted yet? Why are you calling me out Take time ooo. Not everyone reports their scores here, that's what i have seen (feel free to correct me). Kindly read back for the past one month and check how many people talked about their scores. Even people that kept asking for direction last month, i cant remember seeing their feedback later. Seems like you should rather address a general issue. Perhaps if it becomes a ritual, everyone will follow suit. If i have anything i know that will help someone i will definitely put it here. I believe what will help people most is for people that performed very well to state how they achieved high scores. If i feel my scores are not fantastic, why should i go into those details? How is it going to help those yet to write? So people should start prep early, intensive prep. 2-3 months ahead and bring out enough time for it. Thats what i wish i did. Scholastica16: |
Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Nobody: 9:32pm On Jan 16, 2017 |
I will disagree with you on this one. Just because others did not post their scores or experience does not make your not posting acceptable. At the end of the day, it is your personal decision. Also, there is a reason it is called lessons learned. Your scores do not matter, what we want to know are your strategies and your mistakes. It is a long journey and selfishness is the least desirable trait. It always has a way of catching up with you somehow.Hopefully you give back to the thread just like many others did in the past, from which you have greatly benefited from. For now, get some rest and go on with other parts of your application. OGreene: 6 Likes |
Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by OGreene: 9:42pm On Jan 16, 2017 |
So yes, its my personal decision. I dont feel it will help anyone. I have added what i didnt do that others should do. And like i said, if i have any info that i know will help others, i put it forward (I have done that in the past). So this has nothing to do with selfishness. sirRiddy: |

OGreene:Like seriously Spare me. It is selfishness. After all, I was not happy with my first set of scores but I still posted. I did that to give back because I learned a lot from this forum and got materials and immense tips from the selfless members. You requested for assistance from select members here because of their reported scores and tips. Or didn't you? No score is too bad my friend. There is nothing like shame in the matter. 3 Likes |

Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Nobody: 10:31pm On Jan 16, 2017 |
I agree with sirRiddy and Scholatisca16. Please, we should not set the wrong precedence of gaining from this forum and then refusing to give back one way or the other. In fact, the blatant display of "it is my decision" is unwarranted. If you had no intention of sharing your experience for others to learn from, may I suggest you keep your test information to yourself? For me, I learned some tips from people who had bad test day experiences, and I endeavored to avoid such during my examination. In life, people learn from both good and bad experience. And it is great when you show others what you did that they should not do rather than postulating you have nothing to offer. Well, I do not believe that statement. It is sort of selfishness. Remember those people that answer or help others are not paid to do so too. Finally, remember this adage "It is better to give than to receive". 2 Likes |

drhopeful: You beat me to this, dear. In fact, let us imagine how this thread would seem like if people did not share their experiences. For me, I did not like my score one bit because I was aiming very high based on the course I studied and the schools I was aiming at. But I shared because some persons felt it was difficult to pass the 300 score threshold. Each and everyone us that shared our experiences wanted a better score. Trust me on this information. Please let us be selfless in helping others through sharing. One love. 2 Likes |

OGreene: It is funny how humble you were when you needed help to how entitled you now sound. My only pain is that your ungratefulness might ruin someone else's chance who was more deserving. The other day, someone on this thread considered rewriting because she had 298. I supported that move but someone else recommended she could still use the score (based on her profile) and he offered to recommend schools to her. That score is not stellar but she was willing to share it and now she may have gained information that she would not have had, had she kept it close to the chest. What I can perceive from your disposition is that you already feel you won't need the house again so 'to hell' with what we have to say. Don't worry. Life has a way of bringing people like you who posted copiously on this thread asking for tips only to be wise enough to tell us what what decisions he has to make and the ones he is willing to let others make for him. BTW, I have no grouse with you or with those people that did not post because there is a way this story typically ends. Either they get stuck at some point and need specific help so they come back here to ask for it (and in such situations they would be coerced to still give that dreaded report) or they go on to achieve whatever dreams they set before them and in that case we still lose nothing. It only makes sense that as the ox is threshing the floor it should not be muzzled while at it. (Let the thread that has helped you gain from your experience so to speak). PS:notice that 95% of the active posters here are people that are already satisfied with their scores or better still, are already in competitive grad programs. So when we ask for the report (not necessarily the score) we are doing so for the benefit of others not for ourselves. 7 Likes 1 Share |

The reality is that no one needs such crass display of arrogance over nothing. Many people have helped the thread grow and have kept it alive till now. Thanks to Danjaninja for creating it and the consistent cries for people to post their experiences. People should keep exchanging tips and experiences and murdering the test. Good luck to selfish people as well. By the way, who kidnap Danja sef? 1 Like |

I still dont find the way you address this matter funny. I dont. Which entitlement for Christ's sake? Pray tell. This is so wrong!! Please no need to tilt this a different way. Please stop this. I posted after the exam to show you people that helped and others yet to write that my scores are not that good, nothing to be proud of, that i hope for the best with admission. I wouldnt even advise someone to have that score. People should follow your steps and Time2smile to do well. How will my poor prep strategy and not-to-okay scores help another to perform better? I already added that peope should add more time to their prep and start earlier. But you wouldn't let me be. Hmmmm. If you are now referring to the exam experience (i didnt even know thats the issue), it's a different thing. What stopped you from saying "ok so you are not happy with your score, but what was the experience like?". You called it entitlement. Like seriously... Exam experience: VQVQV. I found the verbal quite tough, i did my best to answer the TC and SE. For RC, i read the short passages and answered, no time for the long ones so i just ticked anyhow. Quants felt better; i made sure to solve all the questions, anyone that i get stuck after the 1st minute of solving, I just tick any answer and move on. But for the 1st Quant, i didnt solve the last 2 questions, they are 'fill in the answer' type so ticking couldn't even have helped. 2 losses, very painful. The 2nd one i got to the end before the time finished, couldn't afford to let any ques go unsolved. Although sometimes, i dont even bother to solve some if i cant decipher how to go about it or if i feel it will take unnecessary time. For AWA, i still used the method of choosing a side for the issue, explained with 3 examples, added a counter point and closed. Argument, i referred to Magoosh fallacy examples, and used the ones that fit the question. Scholastica16: 2 Likes |
