I think we should move on from the fact that O'Green failed to report his scores ad experience. As much as I don't agree with his decision, He is not the first nor will He be the last to do so. Some even neglects the thread entirely once their test is done. This thread has always been courteous and civil, please let keep it that way. I got my official GRE scores and AWA score is 4.5 I am a tad disappointed as I was hoping to emulate Scholastica16 90 something percentile score. The 4.5 is 82nd percentile which is more than good enough for my field. Forward and upwards. I am having a challenge getting suitable referees. Those I would like to use are not responding to their emails, and most schools require online submission of letters of recommendation preferably through institutions based email addresses. Can I get letters from someone who is not my former Lecturer?. Suggestions are needed please. 1 Like |

Time2Smile: I choose to be happy, cos I owe myself that. Good news on your AWA! Great score there! You've been calling those profs, or emailing them? Your best bet is to call them, send them texts, just anything, that doesn't require email. Even though they would still have to send those LORs via email. Better still, I suggest you choose a day. Try to get those email requests from your target schools in their emails first. Get your PC down to your school, and do all you can to make them do it. I think it's easier that way. And yes, letters from faculty members weigh a whole lot more than from any other source. Why? Grad programs don't give a damn about our character, extracurriculars, or other soft skills. Of course, it would be nice to have those, but then they're interested in your research experience and/or potential. The rule of thumb is for every 3 letters, 2 should come from those you've worked closely with in research-heavy environments or something similar. Good luck! 4 Likes |

Maybe you need to read his past posts and see where the problem lies. People like him will be doing abeg abeg when they need something and turn to werey when they lay their hands on it. When you see how the Asians behave, you will understand why this is a huge problem that affects everyone, you, me and him. Is anyone asking him for money or food? Post your experience is the rule of the group, he wrote the test and started behaving like Jet Li. Civility is for those who have respect and he certainly does not for this group. Time2Smile: |

happyday:schools are usually specific in the lor they require, some request solely academic ref while some go with professional and academic. I have never served on any admission committee and I don't think any one on here has but following the instructions on the portal of the school pays and you can get professional info on quora |

Hi Time2Smile, congrats again. You have really been doing well. My issue wasn't even talking about the test experience. I knew you tried for me, it was so disappointing that I didn't have a good report to tell you. So I just announced the score is just there, a comfortable zone. Who is happy talking about a low score? If my test prep didn't work for me, is it going to help others? For real, if people yet to take feel they will learn from it, I will explain asap. Imagine my shock when I saw the epistle of how selfish I am withholding the scores. I couldn't condone this. Has reporting the score here now compulsory, that it has to be put out that way! Because if it were so, I would gladly play along. Its been a choice matter. Some people never talked about their scores, and no one called them out. So why me? What I wanted to do later is if some people (that had been with me on this insisted), i will pm the score. Am very shy about it. I didn't even know they were referring to the test experience most of the time the argument lasted. I didn't intentionally hold that back. I have added that straight away. Time2Smile: |

Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Topiipii(m): 9:40pm On Jan 17, 2017 |
OGreene:Hi OGreene, I saw your post yesterday, but I never thought it would descend to this. The fact that others did not give a report does not make it right if you don't, it is a rule of the thread sort of, so should have tried to respond as expected rather than take the antagonistic route by referring to those who did not give a report. You were right when you mentioned that some people did not share their test experience, but it could also be said that you asked more questions than the majority of the people in question and if you noticed, those that asked for your experience have been helpful to you in the past either directly or indirectly, I am sure they asked out of concern. Imagine a scenario where you've been assisting a student in one way or the other for an exam only for him/her to return after the exam and tell you that his/her performance is 'OK' without being specific. Your initial post after the test Hello people, my appreciation to all that helped, with materials, steps to take, answering questions and that Maggosh account.appears to suggest that you've obtained what you're after and would rather keep it private which is against the spirit of the thread anyway. Scholastica16 did not do anything wrong when he mentioned you, the only thing I think you may find offensive in his post is the fact that he said he is disappointed; that is in no way an insult to you. You may think that your score is not good enough (although you did mention that it's in the comfortable zone), but have you thought about the fact that sharing your experience might also be of benefit to you as the ensuing discussion might reveal something that may be of importance? Seeing/reading reports of only high scores is not good for the thread in my opinion, it gives the impression that the test is easy which may make an intending test taker lax in his/her preparation(s). On a different note, are you a fan of Dagrin? Sirriddy, don't you think your language to OGreene in your last response was harsh? I hope those yankee people have not infected you with their F-word syndrome. 4 Likes |

@OGreene. Honestly, I was really surprised to see your posts up there. How could you compare yourself with those who show up here only when they need urgent assistance. So because such peeps never reported their test scores or share their test experience, you've decided to withhold yours. Why can't u compare yourself with those people here who render selfless help, and emulate them? I've been following this thread for long and nobody has ever been persuaded to share his/her test experience. People want to hear your story because u are an active member who has benefitted a lot from other's experience. You are an active member of this thread and the US student visa thread too, and such childish decision to withhold your test preparation/taking experience has really revealed a lot about your person..... Moreover, who says u must score very high to share your experience Yes! Nobody is happy to talk about low score. However, prospective test taker could benefit from your experience n possibly avoid some mistakes made. My GRE scores came out quite low when I took d test. Despite d low scores, I decided to share my experience, not because I wanted to display d low score to d whole world but because I felt it's necessary to contribute in the little way I could, n also pinpoint my mistakes so that others could learn from it n possibly make a better score. It's fulfilling to later read about a prospective test taker who eventually benefitted from my shared experience. So u never know who can benefit from your experience.... no matter how bad. So bro, you shouldn't even be forced to share your experience cos u are not a novice here. Well, goodluck in your applications. 2 Likes |

Topiipii: Please read my other posts, my test experience is there. I have no issue with that all. I have said this again and again. My issue is i dont have to be called out because i didnt include my test scores. Not whether its right or wrong, Overtime i havent seen people updating scores constantly. Even when i wrote the first test, i posted that day and hola'd others that wrote. I cant remember any of them responding. So i just left it there, and i thought it seem people weren't really taking it serious. That was my thinking when i posted that mine is in a comfort zone without intending to offend anybody. Only for me to see that response which i didnt take lightly. Some people have said they dont agree with me about leaving out the scores, or that its right to include it; thats even better than just calling me out at first. My response isnt different because i have taken the exam, if it were before, i will still have responded. Dagrin fan, what's this even about? Let him continue with the f-word. Smh @people that rather conclude its take-take and off. Really smh. |

OGreene: To be honest, the abrupt nature of that first post makes it impossible for anyone to assume any other meaning than what most of the commenters have said, I am sure you'll also agree that it did not properly convey your intentions which you later made known in other posts as well as this one. I am glad you have no issues with sharing your experience, it seems the matter has died a natural death and quickly too. I wish you all the best in your applications. Dagrin fan, what's this even about? He used to refer to himself as Barak 'OGrin' which is a variant of your moniker. |
