. I am not aware of this vacuum of shyte though. My father's house was completed in 1989 but we have been living there even before it was completed. Never for once did we vacum our soakaways. That's almost 30yrs. Why is this though?. We never even had a single problem with it. All i know is we shyte and flush and it goes down succefully grin grin

Congrats to your Dad and his builder. They used a properly sized sewage system.

Really, when done properly, the system shouldn't need to be sucked for decades. At least in the US. The work mostly is damage control from tree roots and amateur backhoe operators cheesy

I totally agree with you. This was what prompted me to make the sacrifice and finally get my borehole done after drilling three wells on my property that didn't go deep enough for my liking. Imagine wells that didn't go deep more than 30 feet. Contamination of such wells is a possibility. Those pictures up there are heartbreaking for me. Water treatment facility on my property is a must.

Please can you share the final depth of your borehole and location ( city).

Yeah, the ultimate solution is waste treatment facility. Any individual scheme that still leaves any "flow" into the soil is ultimately still half a solution.

Treating water at home in Nigeria is critical. I'm not at a stage yet to investigate that but I'm sure that there companies providing these setups in Nigeria.

What happened in Flint, USA was an eye opener.

Lead in drinking water is definitely a big no no

Buying directly from the factory will be more expensive than buying from the open market where there distributors sell. This is because the companies will not want to deal directly with every small buyer like me and you. They will like to sell to bigger distributors who will sell to us.

They do the price hike for direct buyers who are not registered distributors to protect their distributors and ensure adequate tracking. I was in Innoson factory and they refused to sell to me directly, I was also trying to buy wires from Cutix cables factory but they referred me to their approved distributors. In this two cases, they agreed to sell to me, at a cost higher than what the distributor was selling. In this two cases they gave me the address of their distributors and advice me to buy from them.

When I asked them the conditions that will make me a distributor, they specified the amount I will pay into the company, and the frequency of my repeat purchase in a year. I was supposed to fill a form and apply to become a distributor. That is when they will sell to me cheaper.

I guess this explain why I paid a lot for my roofing. I bought the Metcoppo directly from Tower factory at Oba Akran in Ikeja lagos shocked shocked shocked

I like "see-through" fences as well. But with insecurity in nija, i'd better go for high fence. Plus, there are things you dont want strangers/passerbys to see. Imagine you wake up in the morning to get fresh air in your compund, with your fresh pot-belly and early morning yawning with towel?. And some folks in this day and age could easily snap you from thier cell phones and place you on facebook grin shocked

Sir,

Methane gas when accumulated, has been shown to be explosive!
Hydrogen Sulphide on the other hand, is the major component of an "evil smelling fart"
(the type you give-off after eating bans with the skin! grin ).

Would these two not constitute a big nuisance to the house and its ocuupant, if allowed to generate in large volumes, as depicted by these bacterial processing method?
How does one suppress them and still achieve stated objective?

They CANNOT be suppressed as they are part of the decomposition process. Even ammonia is sometimes produced. Infact the rate of production of these gases is directly proportional to the efficiency of the sewage system.

Normally their rate of production is small enough not to be noticed during venting to atmosphere. In the end its just a natural rotting process at an accelerated rate

Technology has been used since the late 1800s .
I know of a particular house that was built in Delta around 1975. It had same system but the treated shyte water was piped to a small open ditch infront of the house.

A lot of houses I know with amoured security doors that have been robbed, ended up being burgled with the rubbers breaking the walls beside the doors with a cheap sledge hammer, or simply driving in behind the home owner.

All this security is just to discourage those ones looking for soft target.

Just thinking out loud shaa...

At least the good news is that Lagos state government is planning to build a waste treatment facility at ibeju. I just wish other states will follow.

As for ground water contamination I will still advise one invest in deep water drilling to avoid contaminated surface water especially in Lagos ( water areas) and also go the extra length with installing a little treatment facility for chlorine injection for the safety of your family, children and tenants.

I wish Lagos state can plan communal water system too to prevent all this indiscriminate drilling of boreholes. Also most house owners in lagos cant afford to go for deep boreholes as the price could be outrageous....deep boreholes in Lagos ranges from as low as 450k to as high as 5m whereas you can get a shallow borehole for very low prices around 80k to 120k.

The moment that robber breaks the wall with sledge hammer and sneak in with his head, there is ocean of acid waiting to be poured on that robber's head.

Besides, I must have guns in Nigeria. I don't care how I get it. Either the right way or black market route. I went on gun shopping during Christmas and was thinking about having such opportunity in Nigeria.

The robber will just happen to have brought the gun. I simply overpowered him, got the gun and shot him in self defense grin
