Obasanjo Drums Support For Igbo Presidency In 2019 by Stingman: 8:12pm On Jan 24, 2017
FORMER president Olusegun Obasanjo has thrown his weight behind the South-East geopolitical zone in producing the next president of the country in 2019 general elections.

He said this on Tuesday while playing host to the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ogun State chapter, at his Abeokuta Hilltop residence, that the problem of marginalisation and justice had been a major source of concern of conflict between ethnic and regional divisions, hence, his resolve to back the region.

The region, in the 57 years of independence of the country, had not produced a democratically elected president, saying he worked for the emergence of South-South president in 2009, in the spirit of justice and fairness.

He similarly shared the view with the aspirations of the people of Ogun West senatorial district in producing the next governor.

Obasanjo said, “Irrespective of the thinking of the people ahead of 2019, I personally think that South-East should have a go at the Presidency too. The same is happening here. If Ijebu and Egba have produced the governor, it is only fair and just to allow the Yewa or Ogun West to also produce governor. Or else, one day, they will also stand up and take up arms against this injustice against them. That is my personally position on this.”

Commenting on the Southern Kaduna crisis, the former president cautioned Nigerians not to comment on the incident if they do not have detailed reports.

“My findings so far show that everyone is talking from the position of strength. People are not talking from knowledge of what they know and this is not helping. We must be able to dump all our sentiments to overcome the challenges.

“Just like other cases of injustice around us, we need peace; it is only peace with justice that can solve all these crises. Genuine peace is what everyone is craving for and this can only come when there is justice.”

The state CAN chairman, Bishop Tunde – Akin Akinsanya sought for the support of Obasanjo in building Ecumenical Centre in the state, describing the former president as a special gift to Nigeria and the entire world considering his exploits and fatherly role so far.

Is this what the Igbos want? Would an Igbo president not be like OGJ and GEJ from the south, who did nothing for their regions? What Nigeria requires now is structural change...

Will afonjas support igbo presidency? Obasanjo is merely speaking to justify rotation in ogun state. Even obasanjo will not support igbo presidency.. Meanwhile is this a confirmation that obasanjo will no be supporting buhari in 2019?

... Well it is overdue but never too late. We are not so carried away about having a shot on the presidency which is good anyway but I would have preferred a total restructuring of the system and also a creation of another state in the South East most especially creating Anioma state to be part of South East region. To me, this is my greatest wish.

This OBJ is a typical afonja
Igbo,s don,t want to be president
Igbo,s want out
Igbo,s been president will not stop the killing of innocent people or will it stop the Islamization.
Obj go enjoy yr loot ,mind the stance of yr odua republic.

Biafra,Biafra,Biafra,Biafra.

...the highlighted is exactly my point. The Igbo president will try to make the north support his presidency...and so would end up not even doing anything for the Igbos...OGB and GEJ built the $1.5 billion rail system from Abuja to Kaduna...Kaduna contributes nothing to the national wealth...The two president cannot boast of any serious investment in the whole south...You get waht I mean?

I support an Igbo President but I don't think they themselves to be president especially their youth, because if you want to be a President of Nigeria, you should be drawing other ethnic groups to you and not driving them away.

I hope If they contest and lose they will not accuse Obasanjo of leading them on. Soon you will start hearing stories of how Obasanjo made them believe 2019 is theirs uncontested.

Most Igbos don't need Igbo presidency...Resource control, and stronger regions are much better...What did OBJ and GEJ do for their people?

Thats the problem we are having in this country... we are looking for quick and easy solution to our problems..... GEJ presidency did it stop militancy, OBJ presidency did nothing better for Ogun state and Lagos state. Northern Leadership for 35yrs has not solved their illiteracy and poverty issue...

WHY DO U THINK IGBO PRESIDENCY WILL SOLVE SOUTH EAST MARGINALIZATION AND CALL FOR SECESSION ?

Correct guy....
But I think after Anioma state creation a plebiscite should be carried out to ascertain whether we'd like to be part of the SE...you know we've been cut off politically from the East since 1939
