Airtel Nigeria is Bhartis biggest operation in Africa , it's no news that Buhari's poor service leadership has reduced the Nigerian economy in growth to total rubbish only behind that of Zimbabwe as we speak . Do you need anyone to tell you that the bad economy led by Buhari has definitely increased the cost of operation and lowered revenue for Airtel Nigeria ..Keep taking BUHARI serious at your own peril ,are you aware for more than a year he has not deemed it fit to replace the minister of labour and productivity who died in a car crash .

As severe economic crisis hits most parts of Africa, Airtel may decide to exit Africa.

According to Bloomberg, Airtel “ is considering mergers or stake sales at some of its Africa operations as it looks to cut debt and make its biggest overseas acquisition profitable.”

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Mr. Mittal, the chairman of Bharti Airtel, said this process would be completed within a year and would affect some of Bharti’s businesses in 15 African nations, including Nigeria.

It's been a very bad year for Airtel. They lost $91 million in the quarter of September 2016.

In order to reduce the debt, Airtel is considering selling a stake in Bharti Infratel Ltd., its tower unit. A committee was studying whether the sale would be a minority stake or control of the tower unit and a decision could be taken in a month.

One question comes to my mind though?

Is this why Airtel refused to roll out 4G service with other Nigerian Telcos. They were planning to leave. What do we have here

From Econet it changed Vmobile Then Celtel, not to forget Zain To Airtel.

Rubbish assessment!!
Have you asked yourself why Vodafone and it's affiliates always seem to be ahead of the pack wherever they are present? Same goes for MTN. Airtel is very poor at reading market fundamentals because they choose to staff the very important marketing role with persons from the Asian sub continent as opposed to locals who know the market terrain much better.

Why is Mtn still raking the dollars or Glo or etisalat or the smaller networks.

Did Buhari cause the exit or econet, or Vmobile or celtel, or zain?

If you are close watcher of the scene from Day1, Airtel had no plans for long stay in Africa (Nigeria as case study). The did a cheap network expansion to improve the book values but critically ensured as many items as possible solely come from their partners in India - towers, cables, batteries, rectifiers etc.

Airtel adopted a VERY low-cost network management solution and became pioneers of wholesale out-sourcing solutions giving the impetus to massively retrench it's workers.

Of course, cost saving is a very good business strategy, but it's only if justified in promptness in paying contractors and partners. Airtel projects were a far bigger business risk than the combined risk of all other network players. Many indigenous (Nigerian) companies NEVER survived it.

Investing in system upgrade while considering a total sell off might not be a very brilliant idea. Especially having already disposed of all its Infrastructure across Africa to American Towers Company - a Telco Co-Location solutions provider and an emerging player who seeks to rival IHS.

Its sheer coverage is a very good in the books and will make a good sale.

For Airtel, it's a win. Our poor regulatory system make us the losers by the mileage.

Ciao!

It uses your airtime and converts it to data. there's no need for subscription.

let's say you have N100 you use 30MB you'll be left with N70. you can make a call of N25 and be left with 45N. you turn of your data for 2 months and still have 45N. You use 35mb and you'll have 15N left.

It's flexi

Biggest problem for Airtel, Etisalat and to a lesser extent MTN is GLO.

Glo has made it a very challenging market for operators because of its very low prices.

Airtel will eventually flee Nigeria. Etisalat will prob stay longer becos Arabs do not like to be 'defeated' when it comes to money, but how long can they keep losing money.

I'm not sure if Glo is making profit, but it seems willing to sink its competitors and prob itself. It's a dangerous game, but I think in the medium term only MTN & Glo will be left and then prices will likely go up.
