zicky:You just nitpicked some points I raised to form a general conclusion which is unfair. If you read my post holistically, you have noticed I tried to eliminate officiating and judge the teams on balance of play. Against Burkina Faso, they dominated Burkina for long periods till somehow the home team rallied to pull an undeserved draw. Against Senegal, it was the same story. They out played Senegal based on the balance of play. If you actually watched that game, I challenge you to say otherwise. Finally, you have to understand the strength of a league reflects on the national team. Especially for a country whose national team depends on their league for players. When Ahly nationale were rulling Africa, Egypt dominated the AFCON for 3 editions. DRC have dominated the champions league with TP Mazembe and they have 2 CHANs to show for it. Their national team is one of the best in Africa at the moment. Same can be said about South Africa. There's a relationship between the league and the national team. It's easy to call out Ingurland but people don't usually point out Germany, Spain, France, Argentina, and the likes who have solid leagues and solid national teams. People may laugh it off when I say this, but had Christian Chukwu blended in more Enyimba players in his Afcon squad of 2004 and 2006,we would have won the those editons easily. 1 Like |

i'm saying even in missing 2 back to back AFCON one cannot conclude our team is not there without looking at extenuating circumstances. cameroon failed to qualify for 2012 and 2013 AFCON but qualified comfortably for the world cup in brazil. yes our team is still growing but at this moment we match up favourably against the best on the continent if and when this generation of players reach their potential we will be talking of them matching if not surpassing our 90s golden generation Lazyerudite: 2 Likes |

south africa lately always raise their game against the big boys us, cameroon, senegal, burkina faso etc but let them face gambia, sierra leone, congo etc normal service will resume. they are just benefiting from the fact that most of their players are based in SA so it stands to reason that they will have time to blend, perfect and easily understand each other. think about it why is it when it comes to AFCON tournaments when the big teams have enough time to train and blend with each other they deal with teams such as south africa, gabon, uganda, zimbabwe who rely on team work? goldfish80: 1 Like |
http://m.goal.com/s/en-ng/news/4055/main/2017/01/25/31943612/jesus-is-here-bleak-future-for-kelechi-iheanacho-at[/quite] Jesus is here: Bleak future for Kelechi Iheanacho at Manchester City Iheanacho Manchester City Solace Chukwu The Nigeria international has struggled for game time this season under Pep Guardiola, and a new rival now threatens his future at the Etihad Stadium COMMENT By Solace Chukwu When Pep Guardiolarocked up to Manchester, there was a lot of excitement at the arrival of the 'final piece of the puzzle'. The drive to cast Manchester City in the mould of his all-conquering Barcelona team had precipitated a revamp of the club’s youth setup and training facilities, as well as changes on the administrative end. There was also a sense of expectation surrounding the development of youngster Kelechi Iheanacho, as it were the firstborn from the bowels of the “New Manchester City”. Having shone brightly, albeit fleetingly, in Manuel Pellegrini’s ill-fated final season in charge, it seemed at times as though he was auditioning for the incoming management, preening for the balding Catalan. Half a season into Guardiola’s tenure, there is little to indicate he was, or indeed has been, impressed. Iheanacho has kept up his eye-catching scoring ratio, but his minutes have been a lot sparser than anyone might have imagined. One might be tempted to view this as a consequence of the pressure that the former Bayern Munich manager is having toweather in England. His reputation preceded him, and an initial run of 10 straight wins in all competitions conditioned expectations. However, with the arrival of Brazil international Gabriel Jesus, and his immediate displacement of Iheanacho from the bench for the weekend’s draw against Tottenham Hotspur, the writing is on the wall for the 20-year-old: he is weighed in the scales, and has been found wanting. Quite on what metric this evaluation has been done is hard to divine. There have been five Premier League starts and one in the Champions League, in spite of the fact that Sergio Aguero has been available or simply out of favour for a number of games. His tally of goals even with this dearth of opportunity stands at six goals, an eminently respectable return. City legend Shaun Goater was unequivocal in his assessment two weeks ago, telling sports.bwin.com that it is clear Guardiola does not trust Iheanacho, in spite of his statements to the contrary. It seems an odd position to adopt over a player who is averaging a goal every 96 minutes, but thereis an element of doublespeak, bordering on hypocrisy, to the handling of Iheanacho at the Etihad. Of his five starts, only once has he been allowed to go the distance. Having scored one and set up another against Manchester United at Old Trafford in September, he was unceremoniously hauled off eight minutes into the second period. The rationale was that United’s change of shape necessitated a response, and oddly it was the man whose contributions had won them the game in the first half who was ballast, shed in the quest for balance. Iheanacho loan move ruled out by Man City striker's father https:///8h8y6ptZ9o— Goal (@goal)January 23, 2017 A goal and assist also followed in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth, and Iheanacho went the full 90 as Eddie Howe’s side were subdued in a first-half blitz and never threatened a fightback. He had to wait another month for his next start, but with Everton an immovable object, he was sacrificed after 55 minutes. He was hooked against both Leicester and Burnley, both times well before the hour mark. It would seem counterintuitive to withdraw statistically your most prolific striker at points in the game when it is necessary to build pressure, but this is precisely what Guardiola has done repeatedly. The most telling rejection came at Camp Nou, as the 46-year-old decided Sergio Aguero was not a fit for the team’s strategy. Surely then we would see the club’s prodigy,a proven goal scorer and creator? Kevin De Bruyne played upfront, and the Nigeria international was left behind in Manchester. Consider all of these, and it is hard to make a case that Iheanacho has got a fair crack of the whip. It is harder still to determine precisely what more he could have done to earn the trust that is so clearly lacking. Asked to make bricks without straw, his toil has been visited with scorn, and the arrival of Gabriel Jesus may very well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. With Aguero having inked a new deal till 2020, the prognosis for Iheanacho is bleak. The player’s father moved quickly to quash talk of a move away, but he stands at a critical juncture, and risks stagnation if his minutes continue to decline. The coming of Jesus is not with mercy, and Iheanacho would do well to dread it, and seek succour elsewhere. |

Ex Spurs Prospect Musa Yahaya Retains FC Porto First Team Status Nigeria youth international Musa Yahaya joined the first team of Portuguese giants FC Porto in training yesterday for the first time this year. Yahaya who was signed from Portuguese side Portimonense in the summer is yet to play a game for either the first team of the B team, who are campaigning in the second division in Portugal. During the first stanza of the league in Portugal, he trained severally with the first team but didn’t get to break into the match day squad for any of their engagements. Owngoalnigeria.com gathered that his commitment with the first team denied him a spot in the B team during the first half of last season. He was reportedly moved to the B team last month, where he is expected to get game time and develop ahead of a proper integration into the first team. However yesterday he was summoned to join the first team in training, a sign of how high the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee is regarded at the club. owngoalnigeria.com/2017/01/25/ex-spurs-prospect-musa-yahaya-retains-fc-porto-first-team-status/ 2 Likes |

Eupen Chief Says Onyekuru Is Too Good For Scottish Football – Germany Is Best For Him Celtic strike target Henry Onyekuru has been told he is too good for a move to Scottish football. Scotland’s champions Celtic are weighing up a fresh bid for the 19-year-old Nigerian after an opening offer in excess of £1million was turned down by Belgian outfit KAS Eupen. The Parkhead club started freeing up space for new faces by sending midfielder Ryan Christie on loan to Aberdeen for the rest of the season. However, Eupen chief executive Christoph Henkel insists Onyekuru won’t be one of them after vowing to keep him until the summer, when he believes Germany will be a better platform for his talents than the SPFL. ‘We are only eight games from the end of the regular phase of the championship and only five points ahead of last place,’ said Henkel. ‘We aren’t sure to stay in Division One. Therefore we can’t be separated from such an attacking player as Henry Onyekuru before summer. ‘We know Celtic are interested, but Red Bull Leipzig are as well. I don’t think the Scottish league is an option for Henry. ‘Scotland is 23rd on the UEFA ranking and Belgium ninth. Our competition is therefore more rewarding. Besides, I think the qualities of Henry Onyekuru don’t correspond to Scottish football. He would be more likely to flourish in the Bundesliga.’ owngoalnigeria.com/2017/01/25/eupen-chief-says-onyekuru-is-too-good-for-scottish-football-germany-is-best-for-him/ 1 Like |

Anichebe Out Of Super Eagles Friendly Against Senegal Sunderland have suffered another huge injury blow after Victor Anichebe was ruled out for three months with knee ligament damage. The big striker ruptured his medial ligament in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at The Hawthorns against his old club West Bromwich Albion. He suffered the injury in a block tackle just minutes after he entered the action as a substitute, making his comeback from the hamstring injury that had sidelined him since New Year’s Eve. He will spend the next six weeks in a knee action for a total of 12 weeks, which would rule him out until mid-April. Losing Anichebe is a major problem for Sunderland, whose best spell of the season – the run of four wins in seven games in November and December – came when the powerhouse forward was introduced into the starting XI as introduced into the starting XI to add some physical presence and provide a target to aim at in the final third of the pitch. The injury has also denied the forward a chance to stage a comeback to the senior national team of Nigeria as he was supposed to be in the squad for the friendly against Senegal in March, after productive talks with new coach Gernot Rohr last year. owngoalnigeria.com/2017/01/25/anichebe-out-of-super-eagles-friendly-against-senegal/ |

terzurum5: I wish Cityzens Legend Shaun Goater can tell us how Guardiola will field Iheanacho? The 4-4-2 is tough for the team because we lose an extra man in midfield. That means reducing our control in midfield. Guardiola repeatedly says he values Iheanacho. We should give him time. Nolito and Sane are not getting much games too. |
