elrony:. It was the same with Scholes. You have to pick and choose when to tackle and when to hold back or just shadow and you also have to control your temper. Scholes is the 3rd most carded player in EPL history and the most carded in UCL history. |

elrony:I respect him for his Honing abilities, Player management and football philosophy but no respect giving for his achievements. Roberto Mancini and Pellegrinni did better despite their short stints. Maybe Arsenal are comfortable with Incomes For the board than Trophy cabinets for the fans, Sometimes I wonder what the fans see in such tour of the stadium, Pictures or TROPHIES. They would have kept glorifying their FA cup achievements if not that a Certain Possession oriented Entity Van Goal won it despite under achieving. Pochettino right now is building something For the future that Wenger can only envy. |

Baldg: Arsenal fans have been burdened with a marriage from hell. A penny pinching relatively unambitious manager working for a notoriously miserly American owner. Stan Kroenke's American teams also almost never compete for titles. The guy prefers to count his profits rather than shell out for top tier talent. His pocket is tight, he is the only billionaire i know of that went to marry another billionaire....e no wan share him money 9 Likes 3 Shares |

William Carlvalho is a very good player, he might not be as good as Carrick ATM but to be honest, they'll be minimal drop in quality with him in the team, and yes he is a good distributor of the ball... |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chrisley024(m): 7:55pm On Jan 25, 2017 |
elrony:That's the issue here. We're looking for someone to shield the defence and kickstart attack. You cannot keep Verratti in front of your of defence and Herrera from what I've seen cannot do that job consistently; maybe against poor midfielders. So if one put Verratti, Herrera and Pogba, who shields the defence? The job requires someone with concentration, comfortable on the ball, strong, good awareness and can handle pressure. He doesn't really need to be fast and have very good long range passes, Busquets doesn't, as long as he can make short and quick passes. I think he has these attributes from what I've watched. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by funlord(m): 8:25pm On Jan 25, 2017 |
chrisley024: A midfield combination of "veratti, herrera and pogba" as the most advanced of the midfield 3 can lead us to the title....it would contain the right amount of defensive solidity, dynamism, bastardry and technical quality in equal parts....even Jose go agree with me....veratti is the man for that midfield! He has done it in italy(home of the midfield general school of aproko soccer) and is currently doing it in france( home of the pansy pass and follow gentleman game)...his destiny is tied to us....na him alone we need |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Kagawa10: 9:11pm On Jan 25, 2017 |
afrodoc2: Yes. Swansea and Southampton have really suffered from me, I always mistake one for the other. I mean the KSY guy was good as a no 6 while on loan at Sunderland until he returned to his parent club, Swansea who often deploy him as a no 8. he may not be good enough though. The one person I can vouch for is Badelj. That guy has been good since his Hamburg's days before he left for Florentina. I also noticed him at the Euros, he even performed better than the likes of Modric and Rakitic, especially vs Spain at the Euros. I think he fit the bill because he's a deeplying playmaker as well as a holding midfielder, just like Carrick. 1 Like |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Kagawa10: 9:15pm On Jan 25, 2017 |
funlord: Verratti is a no 8, not a no 6! He often plays with Motta who's the holding midfielder. Verratti's position is the same as Pogba's position! |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Kagawa10: 9:23pm On Jan 25, 2017 |
Baldg: I really don't know the answer to your question. I know serie a is quite slow paced but that doesn't mean there are no good players in the league. Moreover, Badelj was fantastic at Hamburg and if not for the poor level of his Hamburg's team mates, he would have been recognised sooner. He was also good at the euros. I could remember how he was the only one that stood tall against Spain whereas Modric and Rakitic looked subdued and dominated against Iniesta. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Kagawa10: 9:28pm On Jan 25, 2017 |
elrony: Fabinho can play in the midfield as well. I think he's played more in the midfield this season. Anyway, I don't think Fabinho nor Bakayoko is ideal for us. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Kagawa10: 9:42pm On Jan 25, 2017 |
Baldg: I can't even judge his euro performance because Portugal played in a defensive setup. From Joa mario, Gomez et al, everyone was more concerned about the dirty work, hence Cavalho was hardly exposed. It was like a community defensive work like Dayo would say. Another thing is he's a pure DM with little creativity/incisive play and we need more than that in this position we're talking about. We shouldn't forget that Pogba isn't a player who controls the midfield and dictate play, that's been Carrick's work. Carrick offers much more in the role than just his defensive skills. |

Kagawa10: Midfield is the easiest place to adapt your game to in football! 1 role covers all aspects....paul scholes went from striker to AMF to cmf, pirlo went from amf to cmf to dmf, xavi went from dmf to cmf to occasional amf, lampard went from cmf to amf, gerrard went from dmf to cmf to amf..... Verrati has played dmf, cmf and amf already in his short career as a top level midfielder at both club and country level..I have educated you once about this already....veratti is THE MAN FOR ME...take it or leave it...my gulder go still dey chilled for my mouth! |

This Soton team will give us a game if we make it to the final. Fortunately Van Dij is injured for a while. Liverpool could be the team to drop out of the top 4. Is that 1 win in the last 6/7 games in all comps? |

Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Kagawa10: 12:20am On Jan 26, 2017 |
funlord: Verratti can play as a no 6 but he's at his best as a no 8 alongside a holding midfielder. You would be doing him a great disservice by curbing his tendency to dribble forward and what more, his defensive skills is nothing to write home about. Don't forget Xavi did okay as a holding midfielder for Barca but was much more phenomenal after he was moved forward as a no 8. Verratti is quite similar to those no 8 playmakers that like to roam in the midfield. Players such as Xavi, Modric, Scholes et al. They aint your regular sitting deep no 6 playmakers such as Alonso, Pirlo etc. Why would you sign a quality player that excel in a certain role only to want him to adapt to a different role, especially when he's still in his prime? If you wouldn't advocate such for Pogba, considering he played the said role for France against Portugal at the final, why would you ask Verratti to do the same? Some players are not just cut for some certain roles and the no 6 role especially, is one difficult role to master, take Fernandinho for example, who still looked out of place in that role after several seasons in the said role. There was also Scholes who found it difficult to make the transition into a sitting no 6 role, even when we knew he was ageing fast as a no 8. Personally, I would have loved Verratti here but that was before Pogba arrived. If it had been Verratti in the team, we wouldn't be scratching our head for a playmaking no 6 to replace Carrick right now, a pure DM would have been good enough to pair with him already. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by funlord(m): 12:30am On Jan 26, 2017 |
Kagawa10: Pogba already has more career goals then verrati and is more of an attack minded midfield player than marco.....Marco can even sit slightly deeper than pogba and just be as devastating as xavi alonso or xavi was from the dm position.... Between pogba and marco it would make more sense for pogba to be the player you want initiating your teams attacks... |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Kagawa10: 12:36am On Jan 26, 2017 |
funlord: Xavi wasn't a DM though. He was a no 8 playing beside Busquets who was the DM. The fact that Verratti's style of play is different from Pogba's hasn't negate the fact he's a no 8 who needs a DM beside him. How many career goals has Modric? Does that stop him from being a no 8? |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Kagawa10: 12:48am On Jan 26, 2017 |
Better still, if you're dead set on Verratti, we should get him but with a pure DM to play behind both Pogba and Verratti in midfield. That would even be better.. |
