ak47mann:
A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Jhalil Tafawa-Balewa, has said he is no longer interested in challenging President Goodluck Jonathan for the party’s ticket.

The PDP presidential aspirant, who is the son of a former Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, said he had already withdrawn his intention to run for the Presidential primary.

He said he was already supporting the candidacy of President Jonathan for the party’s sole ticket.

Tafawa-Balewa stated this in Abuja on Thursday during a press conference organised by Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark.

Clark had earlier claimed that he spoke to the aspirant on behalf of the President with the intention of achieving peace in the party.

The aspirant, who had paid the mandatory N22m to the party was denied the party’s nomination form when he approached its leadership.

Clark said, “I wish to inform you that I have succeeded in intervening to make peace between two of my sons, Dr. Jhalil Tafawa Balewa and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

“Dr. Jhalil Tafawa Balewa had indicated his intention to contest the presidential primaries on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party against the decision of the party to give President Goodluck Jonathan the right of first refusal. Unfortunately this issue was to generate unnecessary public distraction as detractors jumped to capitalise on it to make unfounded commentaries.

“The relationship between Dr. Jhalil Tafawa Balewa and President Goodluck Jonathan dates back to 2005 when the latter was the deputy governor of Bayelsa state. In deference to their old ties, Dr. Jhalil, has formally withdrawn his aspiration to contest the presidential election in the 2015 general elections”.

Confirming the development, Tafawa-Balewa said, “What you have heard from Chief (Clark) is true. I have accepted to step down for the President. I won’t run again.”

He, however, refused to answer whether or not his N22m nomination fee had been refunded by the PDP.

source: Punch

I caught the interview on NTA. see the video below and the transcript also. I seem not to catch where the bolded were spoken. DID I MISS IT? Worse, why was the part where he said he accepted to step down not shown? MEDIA scam. Appealing to the people's sensation. SMH for Nigerians.

NTA reporter: The press conference was an avenue for elder statesman Edwin clark to offer what he considered essential to provide balm to soothe the fragile nerves of agitators in the interest of national unity.
The main issue of concern was the report of serving governors given automatic ticket by the PDP leadership to go to the senate. This which he says contradicts the party decision in which only the president has the right of first refusal.

Chief Edwin CLark: "it is not right for you to impose your will...yourself on the people...or wanting to nominate someone because you don't like the face of the senator; to replace him.

NTA reporter: Also the formal withdrawal of aspiration by the son of the former premier of the country Jhalil Tafawa-Balewa was received with joy and embrace as he agrees to support and work together with president Jonathan.

Dr Jhalil Tafawa-Balewa :"What Daddy said is very true"

Ndudi Elumelu (Member, House of representatives): "In effect, that decision clearly shows that president Goodluck Jonathan is performing"

NTA reporter: Chief Clark charged all Nigerians to do everything to ensure the preservation and deepening of democratic practices and to put to a total stop what he describes as kangaroo democracy being practiced by some governors.

NTA reporter: In Abuja, Oyeyemi Ajayi, NTA news.

Jonathan is a failure, the only card he is left with is to threaten Nigerians. God forbid. The Zoologist is going Home.

The next administration is more than capable to handle Jonathan, militants, Boko Haram and their Kidnapping partners. Other corrupt politicians who decides to continue funding violence and destruction in Nigeria will be fished out, evidence presented and the court will decide their fate.

Nigeria is bigger than any man or group of persons. Jonathan has failed, he is going home!

What more can we add to this beautiful article? The only thing I disagree with is the statement that GEJ is not the best. As far as am concerned, GEJ is the best and the most intelligent President Nigeria ever had fully equipped with the necessary knowledge and experience to build and consolidate his achievements over the last four years.
The legacy of this admistration is the drive towards a diversified economy. Just like the writer pointed out, GEJ planted many seeds. Seeds that are poised to lift Nigeria to a higher economic pedestal. Seeds in the power sector, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Mortgage and the housing sector, Transportation etc. In short few years, these seeds will mature and take the country to another level of greatness.

This is the line that got me vexed!!!! GEJ is perhaps the luckiest president EVER! He had almost everything on a platter. Oil boom, people's support, name it. I supported him against the cabal of Turai and that went on till his election.
However, GEJ turned COMPLETELY against the masses as soon as he became president. He turned deaf to the yearnings of the people. When people died during NIS test, the whole country was calling for the sack of the interior minister. That same minister is still waxing strong in GEJ administration. GEJ's only soothener to that incidence was a 'promise' of auto employment for the families of the victims. That is yet to be done!
Look at the subsidy issue too. Is it not clear now that GEJ wasnt for Nigerians? what has the average joe on the street gotten out of this government?
For you to then say a 'LARGE PERCENTAGE' are waiting to see him fail, it is a sign of total brainwash and disregard for the masses.
Anyways 2015 will tell.
Sebi you ve seen what you were blaming the government for is happening today

Some folks can't be objective for once even if their life depended on it...Haven seen the failure of the present administration, they'd rather come up with statement like 'Though GEJ ain't the best he's still the better option'
Truth is you'll never see them admitting to the deficiencies of the present administration without throwing heavy accusations at the end of the opposition...
Address the performance of this administration first if you're really objective... Then we can talk about alternatives...

I view with pity and hopelessness the path most youths decided to walk influence mostly by historical hate. You can't live in a system that is barely coping and you writting a disjointed, meaningless script secretly begging Nigerians to support it. Are we that cheap and hopeless and tribal and clannish and greedy and uncivilised and brain dead and inconsequential that we can be bought over under whatever guise to sell our humanity and sense of belonging just for what really? Something is seriously wrong with this people and argueing back and forth won't do it. Op, i weep for u.

Tinubu has been burnt by this choice. Sacked 450. Fashola is now crying . MTN sacking and pull out who wants to be a millionaire. Etisalat in trouble, Buhari in UK sending message to only Hausas. Military, bombing IDP camps.

IPOP calling for separation, Niger Delta calling for theirs, Ohanaeze calling for restructuring, Yoruba and middle belt calling for restructuring.

Who hasn't been burnt by that choice made in 2015. Even pastor Bakare now says it's Nigerians fault for voting great great great grandfathers into power.

Many reading this, had jobs before the elections. They even insulted me from laptops in their offices. Today they have lost their jobs. Just 2 years and everything have changed.
