erico2k2: No, I did not dispute what you said at all. I totally agree with you. I am sure I have paid over the odds for materials too - especially plumbing stuffs- as she does not go to buy materials, my brother buys some whilst artisans buy the more complicated ones: such as Plumbing materials. As much as I schooled myself, I never understood all the pieces and bits involved in the plumbing aspect. It would be a pain that hits the bone marrow if family swindles one alongside artisans too. |

EgunMogaji: It was here on nairaland I realized how cheap it was to hand Mould block compared to buying straight from block companies. Just by from buying blocks to moulding onsite, also increase quantity of bags of cement and also asking my contractor builder to be more detailed in his quotations saved me 300k during fencing of a second plot. To work under cold for this country now easy o. Every single dollar you can save matters and can go towards other things because even multi million companies will take out that one dollar for failing to work one hour. 1 Like |

twinskenny: Kenny, l take God beg you... desist from this line of argument, please! The question he asked you, is not different from the one you are asking me (just above this your post)..... and it has nadda security implications, to warrant the kind of secrecy you are attaching to it. People ask "open questions" here not just so that it is them in particular that will benefit but because they also want others to benefit from the answer..... otherwise we will all be doing PM back-and-forth. It used to be......, like you are doing now, within the builders/building contractor threads (every answer was "send me an Email or a PM) but now, we have seen Builders and Clients display the cost and procedure of everything imaginable about a building , ....from pegging to foundation, to roofing and right on to even painting! You will get there at some point..... because people will realize that all these information they seek are not "rocket-science" and even you are still a learner (I hope you remember when you just started to learn these things some years back, .... in the FTA section? I remember some of your questions back then, they were so naive but now, you have learnt a lot from others, to the point of even becoming an installer of sorts.). "Never despise your humble beginnings". Nuff Said. Lastpage! BTW: Are you claiming you have never "collected money and bought a Camera for a client" in the past? Whats the yap about "I dont sell cameras"? 7 Likes |

twinskenny: An "Unlimited subscription" is cheaper in the long run, IRRESPECTIVE of the NUMBER OF CAMERAS INSTALLED OR THE LOACTION YOU ARE VIEWING FROM. If you are streaming Video, (whether locally or from overseas, IT IS THE SAME COST!), you are better-off on an unlimited subscription. WHY? 1.) You are not 'constrained' to view "for only a certain number" of hours (due to a limit on your Data/Gigabytes!) 2.) Because it is a security installation, you dont want to run out of Data when you need it most e.g, during the "recording of a breaking-in" 3.) Because you cant ALWAYS be watching your screen (time constraint! you need to attend to your business/chores), this means you dont know when 'a breach' will occur. Most security lapses are discovered when the "recording is played back". This means "serious security installations" record 24 by 7 non-stop, (though you can set a period to over-write, so as to maximise Hard Disk Storage (say for example, "over-write every three days". If there was a breach, you would have discovered and replayed the event within the three days time...otherwise it is over-written by newer recordings). The implication of the above is that a good installation requires enough Data availability otherwise you just have a "glorified" security set-up! I have seen many of such in the past and how their owners were lamenting "had l known". Only an 'unlimited Data package' can guarantee that... and it is cheaper in the long run, while being fit-for-purpose. When you discuss with your Clients, give them the above "line of reasoning" and see if they dont buy it. Lastpage! |

You can only get kidnapped by people that know you. You can stay in your house all day but if you have bad people around you, if the want to set you up they will still set you up. sellers deliver materials to site I take them to the next ATM, I pay and then we go our separate ways or I go to ATM pick up money put am for car drive to seller buy my thing and of I go. 3 Likes |

44chux: @Black Bolded: Very true! You must display a sign saying the premises is MONITORED. You should also not train the sights of your camera on your neighbour's yard (You are to shield his premises on your recording device..obscure it otherwise you can be charged for spying on him even though that is not your intention. Now, to wireless transmission using Cameras. @Red Bolded: With due respects, the bolded is just a "perception" but in reality, it is the opposite. I suspect what you think is that because we can "tighten" security on PC's/Phones (installing software and hardware like Cisco Routers, e.t.c) and because the signals/data does not "fly-in-the-air", it should be safer! This is not always true Sir! Infact, 'wireless' is safer than wired...... (because all l need to do is find a point where l can 'piggy-ride' on your wired installation and l am good to go! All your 'transmissions' will be available to me as well, without your knowledge (But there are ways to prevent this as well) ......if done by someone with the requisite knowledge and training. The reason most people think wireless Camera installations (or anything wireless) are less safe, compared to the wired install is because of the dearth of knowledge in securing wireless transmissions. Those who secure wireless transmissions are seasoned professional who specialise in that area of communications and can/have proven it with their "certifications and work experience". Dont forget that our telephone conversations are "wirelessly" transmitted from Tower-to-tower as they hop around till they find their intended receiver. Because "wired" transmissions are less difficult to manage (most people will make sure you just cant have access to the Cables... bury it in an iron pipe sef! ) everyone with a little knowledge can claim to be able to secure such 'wired' transmission. Ironically, most of the people (safe a few) installing CCTV in Nigeria right now are just "Cable installers" who branched into CCTV installation...... afterall, "all na wires and cameras" Thus, if and when they venture into wireless CCTV installs, "security", beyond the basic, routine ones that come with the Camera software (which can be cracked by someone with the "knowledge and right tools" becomes a challenge for them. They will either advice the Client that it is less safe (instead of owning-up about their lack of knowledge and capability!) or just leave it "open". Just ask your CCTV installer "what Cisco certifications or equivalent, he has in WIRELESS SECURITY specifically"... let him show you his "Cert Card", a small Credit Card-size of your Certification that we carry around in the purse in-case you need to "show-off". That is when you would see and know the difference between a "cable Installer who dabbled into installing CCTV Cameras"... and a Security Expert who is qualified to install "safe" wireless Cameras. Having said the above, "wired" cameras (like all wired networks) have their own advantages. I still salute the courage of anyone who has not undergone the formal training and is still able to put something together, at an affordable price for the client. We need to encourage them. dearpiriye: Cost for cement is kind of standard, moulding varies from location to location and for sand definitely suppliers cheat but there are some nice guys on naira land that have earned my trust. But no matter how much you lost from purchase of materials for blocks, it is still very cheap to mould yours. At least you know for sure the bricklayer is using the right composition for the mould. Check out what I paid below to my builder to mould 2200 blocks compared to the 200 naira per block from block sellers and delivery my builder initially quoted for me (last year 2016) To mould the 2,200 blocks 74 bags of cement 2,300 per bag =N170,200 3 tipper of sand 45,000 per tipper N135,000 labour 800 per bag N59,200 N4,000 total N368,400 My builder definitely added a little thing for himself which I am fine with because he delivered what he promised but Check out the money saved. |
