Hello guys, i intend applying to universities in Canada for an undergraduate program in aeronautic/aerospace engineering in fall 2017 or winter 2018 with the sole aim of becoming a pilot, kindly advise on good universities that are reasonable in tuition fees that i can apply to. Also do you think i should go for any of these programs first before proceeding to flight school or should i just go to the aviation/flight schools directly . I will appreciate good suggestions from the gurus in the house or anyone that is currently taking these programs thanks all. |

Megziflips: I may not be able to give you a direct answer but these tips will help. In the University of Regina, 7 out of 10 times, even if you do not contact a supervisor, if your profile is good, you will be admitted for M.Sc. I even know a friend who applied for M.Eng. but before decision was made, he was contacted by a professor who liked his profile, and he was admitted for M.Sc. with funding. Basically I will say this, in the pursuit of life goals, especially when you want the best, try to avoid short cuts. My Tips: Before you start contacting any professor read their research publications deeply have 90% understanding these may take some time. Just Google their names, you will see their work. Now write a good research proposal(Yes please write) send me a PM from next week, I will give you tips on how to write it. Include your transcript, your previous research work if any, if you have attended any conference, and you presented a paper be sure to include it, if your undergraduate project was published include the paper and journal, also let a professor in your school write in your school letterhead to the supervisor describing your research potential and how passionate you are for research (Exaggerate). More options: Write GRE. Although not necessary in Canada but trust me, if you hit a high score, you are game. Attach all these + your GRE score (optional) to your E-mail and send. 8 out of 10 times this brings success and most importantly a reply. No one neglects a good student. The world loves EXCELLENCE and doing all these shows you are serious. If these tips don't work use the M.Eng. route and follow my earlier tips. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Megziflips: The truth is when applying for MSc program without a supervisor, chances of getting the admission is low but with a potential supervisor there is 90% chance of getting admitted into your desired program. Although I do not know personally anyone who has secured a supervisor in comp. sci/Engr. I know a number of people have been successful in obtaining supervisors for their program. Indeed if you have a research proposal which is in line with any faculty member research work, it can help but it is not a mandatory requirement to get a supervisor. My two cents, 1)Go through any of the school's faculty listing and study their research work. Compose a detailed, but brief and precise (forget informality and be formal) SOP and send to their email and follow up with a call. Many of them read the emails and don't reply but the call gives you platform to pitch your potentials. 2) You can settle down and come up with a brilliant research proposal and send to a faculty member whose research interest is in LINE with your research proposal and follow with a call. NB:Always attach your transcript, statement of result/certificate and cv when sending emails most especially your transcript as it enables the faculty member to see your strength and weakness in the various courses and how you progressed academically. Other members of the thread can add to this and there is a link on how to secure a supervisor on this thread thesoj posted recently. 2 Likes 1 Share |

When contacting potential supervisors, is it good to attach transcripts and cvs in the first mail, cos i read somewhere that first mail should be brief and without attachments |
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by QuantumMove01: 10:46pm On Jan 25, 2017 |
yorex2011: I stand to be corrected on this by other members of this thread but I believe it is imperative you attach those important docs (transcript, cv and possibly statement of result and publication) Yes the email should be brief, precise but should also be detailed (that is why no space for informal greetings) If the supervisor is interested in you after reading the email then how does he assess your academic prowess without your transcript? I believe those docs can be attached in the first email. However there is no stringent rule for obtaining a supervisor, we can only advice based on our personal experience and that of other people. Just put in your best, rejections might come but never give up. All the best. "Open to other members for their two cent support or constructive criticism". |

QuantumMove01:Alright thanks. I read somewhere online that you can have an external link where you have your transcripts and cv and then put the url in the mail. instead of sending as an attachment |

Megziflips: Some schools recommend you secure a supervisor prior to your application; some schools make it mandatory to secure a supervisor prior to your application. While some schools would inform you straight away that no need to stress yourself about securing a supervisor prior to your application. They will send your file to potential supervisors and if there's a good match, maybe one of em will indicate interest. Buh in any event it is always tidier to contact potential supervisors in your area of research that way you could mention the supervisor in your application if he has accepted you as his graduate student. N.B issue of securing a supervisor prior to application depends on the program and not school, Some programs in a school may require securing a supervisor first before initiating your application while some don't,. No Professor will grant you audience if your mail to them is generic. By generic I mean the email doesn't have contents that is peculiar to the professor like; his previous research, journals, publications, articles, papers etc...which shows you have done your research well about him and that you're certain he/she would be a good fit for your research. Getting a potential supervisor's attention and interest requires a lot of efforts, you have to make him like you by all means, that way if due to one reason or the other he's unable to supervise you, he would gladly link you up with other professors that are good fit for research. So if you'd ask me, it's very important. Also, it's an opportunity to influence your chances of admission. |

gkgraphics: A Statement of result can be submitted as you have no other alternative at the moment.. Like the TRV doctor mentioned you may have to attach a new offer letter if it is requested, but if you are sure that you are actually to resume late, if a new offer letter is requested attach your email correspondences with the school asking to come late and their reply that you can. Be prayerful about your approval, its looks like thats were the need for the additional documents is headed..#smiles#..so stay strong! When did you apply online? |

QuantumMove01: You are right bro/sis, but some sch specifically give a format for you to use when contacting supervisor and will tell u not to add any attachments for ur first mail, in that case i tink it will b wise to follow deir instruction.. |

Thanks Megziflips. I must say you are just too much. I have settled for an MBA program. They waived GMAT for me. To avoid any heartbreak from visa officer, I already have plan B as express entry. To everyone with a masters degree or 2 or more post secondary credentials on this thread, please try direct PR. CRS score is falling every 2wks and now now 453. Hello Guru, I need your candid advise as usual. My sponsor l which is my mum name documentation is not all uniform. In her int. passport, she didn't include her husband name she used her own surname On my birth certificate, her husbands name is with her name and her own surname is not dere. On some other document, the two surnames are used together. But at least one of the surnames (hers or her husband own) is always used. So am scared will CIC not think it's fraud that they r different people..how can I handle this without it having issues. Thanks. |
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by tysaxmalomo: 7:04am On Jan 26, 2017 |
Megziflips: While i am not a guru, i think from the replies on this thread i can say a little something something about the whole supervisorship thing. it is usually a lot more difficult to convince your potential supervisors if you do not have a proposal of what you want to do and how you hope to go about doing that same thing during your Masters programme. they also sometimes may reply to pattionately worded straight to the point emails where you can outline your interests displaying how far and wide you have read on such areas of interest (not sure about this but i want to believe that most research based masters programmes will request for your researcgh proposal as part of the application process). about getting admission without the supervisor, i dont know how feasible that is because their requirements more oftenn than not state that without the supervisor, you will not be granted admission. some allow you to apply and then start your journey towards getting a supervisor while others will not even consider your application at all without supervisorship. This does not mean to say it is absolutely impossible. the best person to answer that will be either the graduate chair of your faculty or the graduate secretary.... but in my humble opinion for research based Masters generally, there is a need to have both the research proposal and the supervisor (where applicable) ready Note i answered based on previous posts, i went in for law and while it is highly recommended that you speak to potential supervisors and all, it is at the admissions committee level that the supervisors pick their supervisees. |

vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv: i am not a guru, but here is my question and then my view on what to do is there any reason to the changes in surname on many official documents ?? i mean divorce, annulment? if none, swear an Affidavit before a Notary Public and submit, detailing that the person with all the different formats of surnames are the same person and that she will like to be known as ( whatever the person chooses) and she should stick to that in all her official documents and all..... |
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Eraytee: 8:44am On Jan 26, 2017 |
Megziflips:well said, but i'd have a clarification to the bolded, pls you cant be so sure of that. if the poster present a good and well convinced app, he would get it. your SOP plays a big role in that. my general advice for all pgc/d applicants is to always submit a SOP along with their documents, though this is not a compulsory requirement from CIC but its necessary as we've seen different scenario on this thread on how SOP helped secure TRV. |

Hello guys, Who has an idea about the New York institute of technology, Vancouver. The school is listed among DLI on CIC website. How credible is the school with employers? I am looking at their MBA programme since it does not require GMAT. |

Good morning all, please i need an advice. I submitted paper route and i linked my application online. Will it be advisable to add more documents to my profile without the VO asking for it cos i just saw some of my docs that may influence my approval. Thanks |
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Nobody: 10:29am On Jan 26, 2017 |
Eraytee: Thank you for pointing that out. If you re-read what I wrote in the bolded text you referenced, you'll see I qualified it with the word "almost". I know SOP plays an important role in the application process and all, but in some cases it's just near impossible to convince through an SOP. For example, if I had a Master's degree in a certain course, how possible do you think it will be to convince the embassy to grant me visa for a bachelor's degree in that same course? Like I also said, I took my time to read the OP's other posts before giving a feedback, and if you did same you'll find that OP has a Bsc Accounting, full member of both ACCA and CPA Canada, work experience of 4years and is aged 28. I think we should call a spade a spade so people won't waste their time and money. The OP's qualifications is already higher than a PGD/C, and that being the case, he'll almost certainly be rejected. I know my answer is quite blunt and candid, but I'm just being factual so he's well aware of his chances. Better to apply to an appropriate program than to apply to an inappropriate program and then try to convince the embassy. Prevention is better than cure. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Megziflips: I like the way u broke it down, his qualification is definitely higher than d proposed program, in addition to what u said, if anyone is in his shoes I think i'll advice people of such profile to keep some of those professional qualifications to themselves by not declaring it in their application, just apply with your B.sc. as u rightly said its difficult to convince a VO of going for a b.sc wen u already posse a m.sc in that same course as it applies to d above boded . we all have to be smart and cover all necessary tracks to go pass this VO's. thanks for that post. 1 Like |

Good morning house, am new to this forum and would need advise from the gurus. I just got a conditional admission to a college for BSC Nursing for Fall 2017 admission. My questions are: 1.What are my chances of getting my TRV haven already graduate with a BSC some years back 2.Will it not be too early if i start my application now? 3. What are the things i need to do to aid my TRV approval |

tysaxmalomo: Thanks Bro!. i never thought of the affidavit aspect. |
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Eraytee: 12:49pm On Jan 26, 2017 |
solex75ms: firstly whats the B.sc you had prior to this admission according to d boded 1. I cant see any progression in ur academic history, having gotten a b.sc before and going for another one now after yrs of graduating would raise some red flag in the eyes of the VO, you need to positively convince the VO as per the reason for another b.sc, else you risk ur app of d popular excuse of 'pupose of visit' 2. its never too early to apply for study permit against fall 2017 bearing in mind the long processing time of 16weeks thereabout. 3. you need to go through the thread from page one to see highlights of the documents that would help ur app. Am not a guru but the above stated are just my opinion about your post. |

tysaxmalomo: Let me say, its divorce but you know all those old days divorce doesnt have any paper backing(They just separate from each other), so i dont want to mention divorce. just that the sometimes , she still uses the husband surname ans sometimes she uses her own name. Do you get. Thanks |
