I Thut I was the only one who observed that, one of the few reasons why I want no pressure on the team, we need to play teams who hold on to the ball and can attack very well so we can assess them more. Also need us to concede early in one of the friendlies to see how we react. Our bench defensive wise Is nothing to write home about. And I think Balogun and Troost to play more games together.
Yes more games to the duo w boost their understanding and confidence but need to search for good back up.Honestly Balogun and Omeruo should have been d best but Omeruo lose of concentration sometimes is an issue, against Zambia d guy was a class but that slip w not allow any coach to gamble on him.I remember he did the same thing against South Africa,if not for this d guy is better than Ekong.

exactly.

Iheanacho is a product of the NFF Academy, he's the poster boy for youth football in Nigeria. He progressed through OUR system, we didn't snatch him from England or Germany or wherever. We are all he's got
Agreed Nacho is our project and poser boy but don't tell me we are doing a slave trade with our foreign born players!smiles

If anyone wants to talk about another young player like Yahaya, K. Nwakali, C. Nwakali, Osimhen, Awoniyi etc, the person can bring up the topic and people will chip in. If Solace Chukwu writes about his worries of Iheanacho at City, I do not see how talking about it derails the thread. It is a common occurrence on this thread of people to say stop talking about it. However, they forget that a discussion on something does not stop another from raising a topic.

So, Please, those who wants to talk about something else, can you raise the topic?

Anichebe Out Of Super Eagles Friendly Against Senegal

Sunderland have suffered another huge injury blow after Victor Anichebe was ruled out for three months with knee ligament damage.

The big striker ruptured his medial ligament in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at The Hawthorns against his old club West Bromwich Albion. He suffered the injury in a block tackle just minutes after he entered the action as a substitute, making his comeback from the hamstring injury that had sidelined him since New Year’s Eve.

He will spend the next six weeks in a knee action for a total of 12 weeks, which would rule him out until mid-April.

Losing Anichebe is a major problem for Sunderland, whose best spell of the season – the run of four wins in seven games in November and December – came when the powerhouse forward was introduced into the starting XI as introduced into the starting XI to add some physical presence and provide a target to aim at in the final third of the pitch.

The injury has also denied the forward a chance to stage a comeback to the senior national team of Nigeria as he was supposed to be in the squad for the friendly against Senegal in March, after productive talks with new coach Gernot Rohr last year.

How can you say a player that makes costly error almost every match is better than a player that hardly makes one, we just manage Omeruo just cos no better option but now we have on in Ekong.

Iwobi nominated for Arsenal Player-Of-The-Month Award

Super Eagles youngster, Alex Iwobi alongside Alexis Sanchez, Oliver Giroud and Lucas Perez have been nominated for Arsenal award called the Vitality Player of the Month award.

Iwobi once again caught the eye over the course of the month, scoring against Palace and then playing a key role in three of the four goals against Swansea City at Liberty Stadium.

Olivier Giroud is gaining momentum for his heroics especially over his incredible scorpion kick against Crystal Palace. The France international also weighed in with a late equalizer to rescue a point against Bournemouth, a last-gasp winner at Preston and the opener in the win at Swansea.

Alexis is never far from people’s minds when it comes to the Vitality Player of the Month award, and his goals at Bournemouth, Swansea and the winner against Burnley are sure to win him some votes.

Lucas Perez has also impressed in January, stepping off the bench to score vital goals at the Vitality Stadium and set up the winner at Preston was among the nominees for the award.

Iheanacho must work harder - Ezeugo

Former Super Eagles’ midfielder, Emeka Ezeugo, has described Manchester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, who was included in the reserve team of the Confederation of African Federation (CAF) best 11 for 2016, as an under performer for the English club.

Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi were the only Nigerians to make the bench of the CAF Africa XIin the African Footballer of the Year award ceremony won by Algeria’s and Leicester City midfielder, Riyad Mahrez.

But Ezeugo described Iheanacho as a flop, who did not seize the opportunity of Sergio Aguero’s absence due to injury and suspension, to become a first team player at Manchester City.

“Iheanacho in my estimation did not do well for his club in the year under review. I do not know why Nigerians cannot see that. The boy had the greatest opportunity ever when Aguero’s almost four months injury sidelined him, but he never took it.

“Iheanacho started a lot of games and he underperformed in my assessment. If he had done well, the moment Aguero came back, he should have been the one partnering him. He would not have dropped to the bench again,” he said.

Ezeugo said the young striker needs to be told the truth for him to fight to realise his true potential, which will be good for him and Nigeria.

“At times I wonder why people watch soccer with emotion. If we were to help the young man improve on his game, we have to tell him the truth. We must remove emotion completely… our people are not getting it that the guy is not doing well.

“Frankly speaking, nobody is giving Iheanacho the right advice. If he was doing well, he should be Aguero’s partner by now. Goal scoring is an act, if you are not well schooled in it, you will not understand it that. Somebody should please advise him on that,” he said.

( Picture) – Sundowns Hand Trials To Nigerian Teen Duo “Jnr David Alaba” & “Little Pogba”

Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively confirm that the highly rated Nigerian teen duo of Ibrahim Yahaya and Chukwudi Patrick Mezee are training with PSL side Mamelodi Sundowns.

The duo have been training with the team with the hope of bagging a deal with the Brazilians according to Owngoalnigeria.com sources close to the players in Kaduna.

Yahaya is well known as Ibrota and in 2016, he was voted the best player at a youth tournament in Croatia which he attended with Football Academy Abuja.

Blessed with tricks and skills, the left full back was given the nicknamed Young Alaba by friends due to similarities in his style of play with that of the Bayern Munich defender.

Patrick Meze is a defensive midfielder, who style if play is more similar to that of Barcelona midfield dynamo Sergio Busquet, although friends call him Young Pogba due to his lanky frame and versatility. He can shoot well both legs and was at a time a player of the highly respected Football Academy Abuja (FAA), however just like Yahaya they were both nurtured by Future Of Africa Football Academy, The Academy is located in the Northern Nigeria state of Kaduna, but also has it branch in Johanessburg South Africa.

Hungarian-Nigerian Otigba Trade Blows With Edomwonyi In Turkish Cup Five Goal Thriller

Kenneth Otigba scored one of the goals for Kasimpasa in their 3-2 win away to Rizespor, with Bright Edomwonyi scoring as well for the losers.

Otigba drew first blood in the 33rd minute of play with the opening goal of the game, before further goals in the second half gave them a healthy 3-0 lead four minutes before the one hour mark.

However, they had to endure a nervy finish to the game with Rizespor scoring two goals in two minutes, with one coming from their latest Nigerian recruit Edomwonyi.

The final minutes were played out with Otigba playing a big part in helping Kasimpasa hang on to their lead, while Edomwonyi was left frustrated at the final whistle despite the joy of scoring his first goal for his new team.

The other Nigerian at Rizespor Godfrey Obaboana was an unused substitute in the game, as the manager gave some of his regular players a rest ahead of their weekend league tie. Emem Eduok was also not dressed for Rizespor.

Musa Muhammed Works 90 Minute Shift For Basaksehir Despite Reports Of January Exit

Super Eagles deputy right full back Musa Muhammed made a rare start and lasted the entire duration of Istanbul Basaksehir 0-0 draw against Sivasspor in the Turkish Cup.

The 20 year old has not had the best of time since moving to Turkey in 2015, as he has been sparingly used by the table toppers in his two years stay.

Last night he was rated as one of the top performers for the team, in what was his 9th appearance in Cup games since his move to the team.

However the former captain of the Nigeria U-17 and 20 team is still heavily linked with a move away from the team this January, as the club want to cash in on him before his contract expires in 2018.

Already he has been advised by the coach of the senior Nigeria national team to move away from his current team, to a team where he will get games if he wants to keep his national team spot.

Leicester City Striker : Algeria Will Do Everything To Qualify Ahead Of Nigeria

Leicester City striker Islam Slimani was disappointed after the exit of Algeria from the 2017 African Cup of Nations, and has shifted his focus to qualifying for next year’s World Cup in Russia.

Algeria need to win their next two fixtures in World Cup qualifying against Zambia to get their campaign back on track following their loss to Nigeria last November and a drawn game against Cameroon.

“Sure, we are competitors, we will do everything to qualify, we will not give up until our chances remain intact,” Slimani told Le Buteur.

Slimani started every single game played by the Desert Foxes in Gabon, and scored twice when they wrapped up group play against Senegal on Monday.

He led the Desert Foxes frontline in their 3-1 loss to the Super Eagles in Uyo.

I think Ezeugo miss understood the situation of Iheanacho at Manchester City. We have Sterling, Aguero, Silva, De Bruyne and Gundogan who are regulars in the City forward line. We play with a striker upfront. How does he expect Iheanacho to partner Aguero?

We can talk of Iheanacho to work hard to displace Aguero which is a difficult task. Aguero is one of the best hitmen in Europe. Guardiola has his ideas of how he plays his team. Guardiola sees Iheanacho as a striker. With one striker, Iheanacho can not partner Aguero.

EXCLUSIVE: Belgian club blocking my transfer cries out new Nigeria star Onyekuru

New Nigerian shooting star in Europe Henry Onyekuru has cried out that his Belgian club AS Eupen are now standing in the way of his transfer to perennial Scottish champions Celtic.

AfricanFootball.com exclusively reported that Celtic have tabled an official bid for the Nigerian striker, but it now seems the transfer may be scuttled going by what the player is telling AfricanFootball.com

He has alleged Eupen now want him to work with another agent and not his agency Macato Sports and they want him to move to Russian champions CSKA Moscow.

"Eupen are acting funny on my transfer. They are frustrating me and my agent for their own interest,” blasted the striker, who has taken Belgium by storm this season.

“They promised to let me move in January if I have a good offer, now there are good offers but they now want me to sign for their own agent before I move and they want me to sign for CSKA Moscow which I am not interested in.

“This is unfair and not acceptable."

I see a strong hint of ego and pride in Henry's game at Eupen. He knows he is their best player followed closely by sylla so I am not surprised about the "shoulders-up" attitude.

I hope the matter is resolved shaa... He does deserve a better league but he's going about things kinda wrongly.

It's such a pity that Algeria's golden generation who shone brightly at Brazil 2014 WC cannot even dominate Africa.

I knew they will flunk at the Afcon and their time is fast passing away as a new Super Force in African football rises in this New Look Super Eagles Team.

There's also DR Congo, Senegal and Morocco (with Hakim Ziyech) who are looking really strong in today's African football era.

Can't wait for the Afcon 2019 qualifiers to begin... So we can quickly punch our tickets on time. Cameroun here we come. grin

As for Russia 2018, nna eh... Slimani and co should forget it. They can fight but they will fail.

Abeg in other news, can someone pls tell some european clubs to come for Karma Bhilliat?? Dude is a menace on that left side of attack... Gosh!

“I'M GOOD AND I'M GETTING BETTER” –
SUCCESS NEARING WATFORD RETURN

The forward has been sidelined since last year owing to a bothersome hamstring injury, but is approaching full fitness once again

Watford’s Isaac Success is nearing a return to
action from a hamstring injury, the forward has
confirmed.

The Nigerian who joined the Hornets from
Granada for a club record fee has made just two
substitute appearances in the last 15 matches
and has only started one game this season
(against Middlesbrough), no thanks to a
troublesome hamstring.

He is hoping to impress for the Vicarage Road
giants having endured a torrid time on the
sidelines.

"I'm good and I'm getting better," Success told
club website. "I'm hoping to train with the team
on Monday.

“It's frustrating as I'm trying to make my name in the Premier League.

"I haven't had the chance to impress. Everyone
knows my ability but I've got more to offer to the fans and the team.”

He also dismissed insinuations that his injury
worries was caused by some African curse.
"I heard that," he continued. "I'm a Christian and I really don't believe in that.

“Injury comes when you are a professional and
most of the time hard work can help prevent it.

“I've really started working harder than before to prevent injuries. I believe I'm coming back
stronger and stronger than before."

I see a strong hint of ego and pride in Henry's game at Eupen. He knows he is their best player followed closely by sylla so I am not surprised about the "shoulders-up" attitude.

I hope the matter is resolved shaa... He does deserve a better league but he's going about things kinda wrongly.

He needs to be careful o before they will bring out one clause in his contract and kasala go burst

@supernerd, if Nigeria had qualified for this nation's cup, how well do you think we would have fared

This boy is not wise. When did he 'blow' that he is carrying his 'shoulder up'. SMH

Celtic is a good move for him. He has a good offer. He will work with Rodgers. The weather is better than Russia. Why should he sign with their agent and go to Russia? They should sign his papers and allow the young man go.

“I'M GOOD AND I'M GETTING BETTER” –
SUCCESS NEARING WATFORD RETURN

Come on. He said the members of the club agreed that they will allow him go when a good offer comes. Why not sell him to Celtic? This is not carrying shoulders for me but a young man crying for his club to do the right thing.

Eupen should sign Onyekuru's papers and let him move to Celtic.
