Henry240: Thats the problem with Africa He tanked his country, utterly destroyed it. But everyone puts him on a pedestal for what "he" did during the Bush War.... The irony being that "he" did allmost nothing, it was the people of Zimbabwe who fought, and it is them that we must be loyal to. 5 Likes |

Patchesagain: I personally wouldn't place South African troops in Zimbabwe for any reason besides him declaring a war on us. However I would sanction him and his leadership, bar goods and money from entering Zim forcing an uprising then fortify the borders. Zimbabwe a is a SADC nonsense, I just don't like the fact that South Africa has to play host to all the people flowing out of it. |

Henry240:No. GIGN, is the elite law enforcement and special operations unit of the French National Gendarmerie. the French National Gendarmerie is equivalent to MOPOL, and their MOPOL has their own SF. The area of responsability of Gendarmerie is outside cities, if you want is the Police outside big cities; main Mission: The policing of the countryside, rivers, coastal areas, and small towns with populations under 20,000, that are outside of the jurisdiction of the French National Police. The Gendarmerie's area of responsibility represents approx. 95% of the French territory and 50% of the population of France The National Gendarmerie is one of two national police forces of France. DSS on the other hand is a secret service, is the primary domestic intelligence agency of Nigeria. It is primarily responsible for intelligence gathering equivalent to US-FBI, France-Direction générale de la sécurité intérieure, DGSI or UK- MI5. It is ok for DSS to have SF today every great Nations has SF in their Secret Services. 3 Likes |

Henry240: It depends, if the Democratic Alliance (DA) in South Africa can take over power then Uncle Bob can face the music if he decided to pull one of his stunts. By my own calculations, the ANC is just 2 elections away from loosing South Africa... For his sake, Bob better hope he's dead by then. |

on my way to work i found this machine parked down my street its evidently owned/operated by the national power utility NAMPOWER and is somewhat demilitarized(no side firing ports) so perhaps NAMPOWER is still de-mining pylons( Cousins did the SADF mine pylons south of Oshivelo "redline")

GreenandGold: Nigeria would not allow a military intervention in Zimbabwe. Even if the DA wins. If it ever happens, it would lead to a major diplomatic row, which both South-Africa and Nigeria cannot afford. |

Henry240: Nigeria and the AU would be irrelevant. It would be a SADAC and UN issue. However, this is all irrelevant. We could flick a switch and Zimbabwe would go dark and if we close our border crossings the country would suffer massive economic harm, deport Zimbabweans from RSA and their population grows by 20% in a couple of months. Maputo does not have the capacity to handle all of their imports, they dont have the capacity to keep their national grid running and they will run out of food in months - in part because of sanctions, in part because of population explosion. We would be well within our rights RE: International Law. The South African government, with the support of Botswana and either Zambia or Angola could effect regime change via siege. If Mozambique agrees it could be done in months. Just because we dont swing a big stick doesnt mean we dont have a cupboard full of them. 6 Likes |

Henry240: And what would entitle Nigeria to have any say if SADC decided on an intervention? Which part of the AU's Constitutive Act regarding intervention don't you understand? Regional bodies decide intervention, the AU takes its cue. That's why Museveni's opposition to ECOMIG was laughable. That's why no intervention in Burundi because the East African Community (EAC) didn't call for it. That why no one has ever tried to introduce sanctions against Zim at the UN, because SADC has never called for it. That's why it was so easy to have the AU roll over on Libya because the regional body is dysfunctional. That's why Zuma was farting in the wind when he opposed action against Gbagbo - it was ECOWAS' decision to make! I really wish people could inform themselves on the African security and organisational architecture before pontificating on continental matters. 5 Likes |

frumentius: There was an Intervention in Libya because Nigeria and the AU was in support military action in the country. You cannot roll over an AU that supported action. Dude, I'm telling you, if there was outside influence in a forced regime change in Zimbabwe, Nigeria would retaliate. This is not even something we would beat around the bush over. SADC cannot call for sanctions because the regional body doesn't have the political influence to do so in Zimbabwe. 2 Likes |

Patchesagain: Like I've said previously, any forced Regime change in Zimbabwe would be resisted by Nigeria. It won't happen, that's why the AU/SADAC negotiating team settled for a power sharing agreement between Mugabe and Morgan. To wield a big stick, you'll need to have the political backing, which in this case, as regards to Bob, does not exist in SADAC. 1 Like |
