Why won't they relocate? Your kidnap their employees, bomb their infrastructures despite the social and community development programmes. What else do you want? You sabotage their pipelines. Forcados is down; they repaired it, it didn't last one week, these fools bombed it again. Oil companies are not breaking even... The IOCs are just bearing the losses due to strong financial support from their parent company. While some of the indigenous oil companies have packed up, some have laid off staff and some are unable to export their crude because they evacuate through just one route.

Only those who are not in the industry would think the companies just drill and produe oil without giving back to the society. That's a big lie! They have massive community development projects they embark upon..but like the typical greedy Nigerians that they are, they prefer cash gift to development. And when they get the money, they lavish it on women and ogogoro and then come back for more. The oil companies are not fools.
You want them to recruit you by force when they already have a sizable number of you working for them already. The current business climate doesn't favor bringing in more people but una no wan hear..."they must just recruit us anyhow he go be"
E&P business is not for children. Investments are massive and stakes are high...No company will put you on the rig to because you're an indigene and you don't have the requisite qualifications and skills. Cos one mistake from while on the rig will kill others, destroy the massive investment of the company and destroy company's reputation. Then the company will pay fines and litigation fees. these yoots don'treason well at all.

Bunch of misfits who think the oil companies owe them for discovering oil at their backyards. They owe you nothing. You were not there when they pump in a lot of money to explore for the crude..daily rig rate is around 1 million dollars and yet some jobless yoots think the oil companies should lick their ass... nonsense.
well said broda, well said.

Rubbish

High cost of operation? Then tell the FG to fix the ports in the region and that case will be closed.

Insecurity? Tell FG and Shell to develop the region and that issue will be address.

Is Iraq, Agfan, Yemen etc more safe than Niger Delta?

This is why we need resource control because if you cannot stay in my region and do your business, it means you don't have any business in my region.

My dear, it won't cost Shell a lot to leave those JV operation they execute from PHC. This is a billion dollar company. Shell wast stopped from operating in Iran (Do you know how much Oil Iran has). The people of the delta states need to be more friendly and better host. They are lazy and demanding. I'm currently typing this from an Oil field in on of the same Detla states. The people in this community will quarrel with a company that wants to build bridge, they will rather collect the money (monthly) and put wooden planks for crossing. In this same community, the IOC, and federal government have tried repeatedly to build a very important bridge to no avail. The chiefs here own boats which are used to cross the river. and IOCs are made to pay monthly for the lease of the boat. The list goes on.

If this community wants stable power, school, hospital and bridges today they will get it. But the IOC dear not try to do it. They would probably have to pay each community member millions of Naira before they are allowed to build bridges for them. Amazing isn't it

For those of you saying resource control will address the issue of Militancy in the region means you don't know jack about your region. Maybe during the days of the military or the early days of OBJ administration it would have worked but at this present age, greediness and laziness has eaten deep into the leaders and youths of the Niger delta no matter how much they earn they will never use it for development rather they will use it to carry women, drink Ogogoro and buy Ammunitions to fight during elections, hijack ship vessels and blow up Oil and gas Assets.

I agree with Shell move your HQ to Lagos and operate from a much safer waters in the ND using directional drilling.

I have always said this since 2013 - all the IOC's will gradually leave operating in the creeks and onshore. Afterall some of these assets have been producing for more than 20-30 years. What is going on right now is that these IOC's are gradually going deep offshore and also in ultra deep waters (close to water around the JDZ with Sao Tome & Principe) and they can afford to operate from business-friendly environment like Lagos and Ogun state. Also if you must know Lagos is already building a FTZ just like Onne oil/gas FTZ which will in the future hosts all oil/gas materials activity in Nigeria.

Time's up for the Niger Delta

You haven't addressed any of the points raised by him.

BTW Shell will keep its offshore sites, sell the others to the highest bidder and walk away. Local jobs will will lost and all ancillary industries that lean on spillover revenues will die. The company that replaces shell is certainly not going to match it's local investment. Then locals will understand that t value of oil still in the ground is zero.

Warri is a cautionary tale. The locals can't have their cake and eat it.

Iraq, Agfan etc are in flames but shell is there doing their business and contributing to the peace and development of their host communities.

Are you now saying that those countries are more safe than Niger Delta?

They use high operation cost as an excuse to relocate when they can pressure the govt to fix the ports in the region to reduce the cost of operations. Because thats where the problem lies.

Insecurity is as a result the insincerity of the govt and oil companies because no reasonable person will go into crime when he or she can live a normal and peaceful life.

Let shell relocate to lagos or lake chad besin and leave Niger Delta for good.

More and more companies will come and shell will not be missed

It's actually Owerri not Lagos. It's been on the open that they've requested the repossession of the original headquarters in Owerri from where was moved to Port Harcourt earlier. Owerri is still within Niger Delta.

When they move their headquarters to the west(Lagos State) which i'm sure is their next hub, they shouldn't come drill oil in Rivers State.

Sure but make your region viable for business first by warning your pipeline sabotages and vandals to stop posing threats to the E&P companies. Why won't they relocate to lagos and other regions when there are no security challenges.

So you blame the people? You see why i said the govt is not sincere?

To develop the host community, the company and govt should work hand in hand.

The community can't resist the govt but in most cases the companies will rather choose to spend less by settling few persons in the community and triger the anger of others

You should have picked better examples. Iraq and Afghanistan are not troubled by their own people but by ISIS and the Taliban respectively. The ND is a only oil producing area in the world where it's enemies are it's own locals. It is impossible to provide security in such areas.

At least ten oil blocs are owned by SS persons. Why haven't they already picked up the slack?

That is what I am saying these militant guys shd attack high profile government officials convoy and kidnap them and demand for infrastructures and jobs not destroying oil and gas assets that ought to better the lives of all Nigerians. They are not wise in their dealings because what you are destroying to prove a point will further affect your community and your family will suffer more for it so why not kidnap these high profile officials that have refused to give u these better life you deserve.

Like i said earlier, the govt and oil firms are not sincere.

A sincere govt will ensure that the people's interest from the oil firms were protected.

Govt and oil firms should always work as a team for the overall interest of the masses.

If the oil firms wants to undertakes any project, they have to involve the govt who will supervise the project to ensure its up to standard and completed as scheduled and the people will never resisted the govt because of the consequencies.

But what the oil firms usually do is, after announcing their planned project to the community, instead of involving the govt, they will rather yield to the pressure of some greedy men to pay them.

Like seriously? How many cups of oil do you have in Lagos & Borno?? N.Deltans must resist this evil move by shell as if their lives depend on it. Shell & indeed other IOC's must have their headquarters in the Niger Delta or else they should not be allowed to exploit or explore crude there. What rubbish is this, if the Mobil HQ at victoria island is located in Uyo or Eket, its main operational base, the impact on the economy of Akwa Ibom would have been massive in areas of tax, high networth jobs, purchasing power & other multiplier effects. Haven't you heard when projects are to be done in some parts of the region they stop the work and demand for money instead or the job slots given to them sold to Non-indigenes.

Even Ben Bruce has shutdown his Silverbird cinema in PH.! Due to same reason of unfavourable environment!.

Asari Dokubo has no investment in ND. Many of the NDeltans have their investments outside the region and yet they will be making noise that others are relocating.

Why wont shell relocate when there is no security of life and properties.!!

Total has already relocated its administration to Lagos and left only core operation staff in PH. They don't have to relocate head office!. Just relocate staff, Admin staff oo, external relation, Engineering design and even project teams oo. All staff that are non-field based staff should be relocated to either Abuja or Lagos.!

Keep the building in PH and let them be seeing it empty!. All relocated staff will surely relocate with their tax to the new state.

The stupid youth of ND can not do more than what they are doing now!. Even with the Amnesty free money, they still continued to bomb pipelines, kidnap people, barricade offices, harass companies and carry out crude theft. What else can they still do.

Shell major trunklines are down 50% of time and the Forcados terminal has been down since last year February due to the bombing by NDA.!

Will fiscal federalism make them change overnight?

A criminal is a criminal, regardless the system in place.

Peace they have not, how can they give one?

Is it not the same IOCs that will drill the oil? Will that change the fact that your people will remain restive?

Stop blaming Peter for the sins of Paul.

It is unacceptable that Shell will drill oil in the ND and then have its HQ in Lagos where she will now pay tax..Laughable.

Instead of Shell, (a notorious sponsor of confusion and disorderliness in the Niger Delta) to look for ways to improve on their relationship with host communities, they are trying to play smart by relocating to Lagos, thinking that the relocation will automatically put an end to the challenges facing her.

Shell instigated the crises in Ogoni, Etche, Ibaa and other oil communities that is/was her host, using underhand tactics and divisionist means to ensure that host communities were shortchanged and deprived of critical amenities/infrastructures necessary to alleviate suffering in those communities. Shell has never been a responsible organisation, they are only complaining because the seed of discord planted has now grown into a thorn and the military administrators that helped them to bulldoze communities into submission are a thing of the past.

If they want to relocate to Lagos, they should carry their rigs, flow stations etc on their head to Lagos, that way, we will understand that they have finally left, for good.
