One of the hallmarks of a very talented young player out on the field is "Self-Confidence" and that knack to "not respect ya elders" when taking them on.......

So.... Success, more of that please!!! Zabaleta and Bailly have collected their own.... Next up are John Stones, Laurent Koscielny, Ashley Williams and even Wes Morgan... angry angry angry

TheGoodJoe:

Nice news coming from Watford and it seems his doctors know what they are doing. Success needs to work on his weight. He is too heavy and still moves fast. The news shows the doctors are working on it and I hope they sort it out. Apart from Success being a Bundle of Muscles, He is a Bundle of Talent. The tip of the left side of the League Of Extra-Ordinary Hitmen.

Glad he is close to putting his injuries behind him but he should stay clear of Zabaleta. Zabaleta is not Success Mate. Success should learn to respect his elders.

Good one there Sir Terzurum5.... smiley

Remember I spoke about this on the previous Super Eagles thread before we started this Dawn of a new era thread. smiley

I said we will witness different metamorphosis stages of our darling team as Post-Russia 2018 will lead to Afcon 2019, Afcon 2021 and Qatar 2022 and beyond (and each event must have their unique threads so that we keep things about out team well organised and well documented in this section for future references for upcoming generations).

I think we have two options:

1). Modify the topic slightly to include "Afcon 2019" as the afcon 2019 journey begins soon this year with the qualifiers

After which, post-Russia we create a brand new thread for the Afcon 2019 exclusively. After which more threads follow.

2). Create the Afcon 2019 thread "now" strictly for just nations cup news with respect to the Super Eagles as Russia 2018 marks our super eagles new generation "baptism of fire" on the international stage while Afcon 2019 which comes after Russia 2018 represents how far the team have matured in its quest to rule Africa for the next couple of years.

Either way, we must be out to organise the archival threads here on NL sports. That should be our goal so as not to cluster the information all into just one place.

As usual the final decisions rest with the elders and Super OPs::::

Madams Safarigirl, Confun et al....

Over to you all... smiley

I prefer number one because the journey to that tournament begins this year. Shalom.

Well, it's good we have many options for our team. Unlike before we had problems with quantity and quality players.

However, we should choose players based on current form because it will increase competition.

I doubt Ighalo should lead the line after Iheanacho's performance against Algeria. We can not sacrifice all that pace, work rate and pressing for a player who will not offer that because he plays regularly. Even in the games Iheanacho played lately for City, he showed the same brilliant work rate up front. That is key to our success, not just who is playing regularly.

With Nacho upfront, we keep the defenders busy and their concentration on him. This will create room for the others to operate and give Mikel options to wreck havoc with his brilliant vision.

If the formation is still 4-2-3-1, I don't see Iheanacho leading the line because that position upfront is designated for a striker in this formation. A striker who is physically built, good at ball control, dribble on one on one, good with the head, hold unto the ball etc. I am sorry to say, Iheanacho doesn't have all these attributes. It was glaring against Algeria. Iheanacho is another Kanu Nwankwo, a second striker and to some extent a playmaker. Let us not be deceived by his ability to score goals.

He is better to lead the line in a 4-3-3 formation as a false 9.

Are you saying Firmino, Suarez or Torres can not play in a 4-2-3-1 formation? I think the case of a big man upfront relies on the strategy. If a team wants to play in a conservative manner, a big man seems the opinion. In a defensive approach, they maintain a compact unit and throw to the big man upfront.

In the strategies employed by Rohr in recent games, we are not a side scared to attack. We play in a brave pattern and cause our opponents to sit back. In such scenario, we are not playing long balls to a big man upfront or relying on a big man to fight his way through the opposition. We attack in numbers and a fast, pacy and energetic forward suits this system. This is something Nacho suits ideally to.

So in an offensive 4-2-3-1 formation, Nacho suits it more than Ighalo or Ideye.

Super Eagles Legend Odemwingie Advises
Celtic Target Onyekuru , Blast Eupen Over Striker’s Future

Former Nigeria forward Peter Osaze Odemwingie has hit out at the way Belgian side Eupen are treating 19 year old Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru, who is wanted by Scottish side Celtic.

Onyekuru was spotted playing in Nigeria and was brought to the Aspire Academy in Senegal before linking up with Eupen who are owned by the Aspire Zone Foundation, in the summer of 2015.

Onyekuru has been a revelation for Eupen since his arrival in Belgium helping them win promotion to the top flight in his first season and he has continued to flourish this season.

The teenage talent has spoken to one of Nigeria’s most successful players Peter Odemwingie to ask for his advice on what should be his next move in his career.

“I have spoken to Henry as he phoned me for
advice and I said to him just think of yourself as
Aspire did not think of the hundreds of kids
discarded by Aspire and who now find themselves back in Nigeria,” Odemwingie told ESPN FC.

“The interest in Henry is great news for Henry,
but I am disappointed about the other boys who went to the Aspire Academy and now find
themselves on the streets of Lagos.”

Props to our senior man, Osaze Odemwingie for standing with our promising youngster, Onyekuru. For lending his support and voice. This is highly commendable. The Qatari side who owns Eupen need to let the youngman go. As Osaze pointed out, there are many young Nigerian players they left behind. They should not hold on to the youngman while delaying his move to Celtic.

Onyekuru should stand for what he wants. If he wants Celtic, he should stand for it and I hope the management of Eupen and the Qatari owners sign the papers. Let Onyekuru go.

Thumbs up Big man Osaze.

Gent Coach Believes Troost-Ekong Can Stop
Spurs Forward Harry Kane In Europa League

Coach of Belgian side Gent is optimistic that
Nigerian defender William Troost- Ekong can cope with the threat of Tottenham Hotspur star
forward Harry Kane, when both sides clash in the Europa League.

Ekong played his first game for the team last
weekend against Charleroi, 18 months after
joining them as he has been on loan with
Norwegian side FK Haugesund.

Coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck believes he has seen enough in the 23 year old to suggest he won’t be out of sorts, when he comes up against Spurs forward Harry Kane.

Ekong who didn't travelled with the team during their Europa League group games due to his ineligibility to play as he wasn’t registered back then, will get his baptism of fire when they take on Spurs in the knockout stage.

The 23 year old Dutch-Nigerian started his career at White Hart Lane with Spurs, and at a time was teammates with Harry Kane at youth level.

”Ekong did very well in our first game, I have
never doubted him. He just needed time to play
for us, he is at a stage right now where he is so
confident in his abilities and play. Hopefully he will give us an edge against Spurs in the Europa
League”, he said.

Onyekuru goes AWOL in Belgium

Henry Onyekuru © dailyrecord.co.uk

Nigerian striker, Henry Onyekuru was left out of
KAS Eupen's league clash with Standard Liege on Thursday night with the striker having gone
AWOL.

Eupen’s manager Jordi Condom Auli dropped the forward, who is reportedly attracting interest from a host of European clubs, from the starting eleven, and suggested his mind wasn't focused on the match.

Belgian media outlet, rtbf claims Eupen does not know of the player’s whereabouts.

Scottish club Celtic have had a bid knocked back for him and he has also been linked with as RB Leipzig, Hoffenheim and Fenerbahce.

Auli said the Nigerian was not fully focused on the club’s cause, hence his decision to drop him for Thursday’s clash with Standard Liege which
finished 2-2.

"The transfer window confuses some players. Me, I need guys who are 500 per cent involved in the project of the club.

“When you are under contract with a club, what matters is the team,” the trainer said.

Onyekuru has scored 10 goals for Eupen this
season.

CELTIC REVEALS ONYEKURU

Onyekuru in action for Belgian club AS Eupen

Nigeria rave-of-the-moment Henry Onyekuru has specially told AfricanFootball.com he will prefer a move to Scottish champions Celtic after a heart-to-heart talk on his future with Nigeria star Osaze Odemwingie.

Onyekuru said the former Lille star advised him
the style of Celtic will suit him and he won’t
encounter much difficulties in being granted a
work permit as would be the case with the
Premier League, where Liverpool have shown
interest to sign him.

"I am interested in joining Celtic because their offer is good, but also I am more convinced to join them after I got advice from ‘senior man’ Osaze Odemwingie, who told me Celtic will be the best for me now considering my style of play and securing work permit,” he exclusively revealed.

Osaze has also played in Belgium before stints in France and Russia before he moved to the
Premier League.

Last season, 19-year-old Onyekuru helped Eupen gain promotion to the Belgian top league and has now netted 10 goals in 21 appearances for them in the current campaign to spark off a flurry of interests from across Europe.

German Bundesliga club Hoffenheim, French
Ligue 1 club Nice, Fenerbache of Turkey, CSKA
Moscow and most recently Liverpool have
enquired about this exciting Nigerian youngster.

Exclusive – Portimonense Make Ambitious
Loan Bid For FC Porto Awaziem

According to reports exclusively gathered by
Owngoalnigeria.com Portuguese side
Portimonense have contacted FC Porto on the
possibility of signing Chidozie Awaziem on loan.

Portimonense recently lost the services of their
young Ghanaian defender Lumor Agbeyenu to
German side 1860 Munich, and are looking to lure the Nigerian to plug the gap created by the
departure.

Awaziem will help the team who are top of the
second division in Portugal realise their dream of
gaining promotion at the end of the season, but a deal is far from agreed with FC Porto.

Porto wants the youngster to remain with the
team until the summer, even though he isn’t
guaranteed games with the first team unlike last season when he had his breakthrough.

Second division side Portimonense will be hoping that FC Porto shift grounds particularly as they have strong ties with the club when it comes to Nigerian players.

Presently Chidera Ezeh and Fidelis Irhene are on loan with the team, while Musa Yahaya passed through them before ending at FC Porto last summer.

The proposed destination of hot in demand
Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru has pitted him against the hierarchy of Belgian side KAS Eupen.

19 year old Onyekuru is presently the most
sought after Nigerian teen in the January transfer window, with CSKA Moscow, Fenerbahce, RB Leipzig and Celtic all jostling for his signature.

However Celtic are the only team to have firmed up their interest with a bid, which the forward wants the club to accept but the Sporting director of the team is adamant that he won’t be sold this January.

While Onyekuru feels the club have renegade on their promise to let him leave this January, the director also wants the forward to sign
representation contract with a close friend of his, who is an intermediary.

The said intermediary is behind the RB Leipzig
offer, which will only materialise in the summer
not in January unlike the offer from Celtic, which
will see him move this January.

We saw it against Algeria. He is better as a supporting striker or attacking midfielder. We all saw that in his previous games where he assisted and scored goals consecutively in four matches which he struggled to replicate against Algeria.

Exclusive- Bologna Turn Down Roma’s Request To Recall Fit Again Sadiq Umar From Loan

Nigeria Rio 2016 forward Sadiq Umar won’t be returning back to Roma this January after Bologna refused their request to have him back.

Sadiq joined Bologna on a season long loan deal but the Rome outfit approached them to have him back during the January transfer window as back up to forward Edin Dzeko.

However Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal that their request was knocked back by Bologna’s coach Roberto Donadoni, who still has faith in the 19 year old.

Sadiq only recently returned from a two months injury lay off which required surgery, and after one week of working separately he trained with the rest of the squad today.

Since joining Bologna he has only made five appearances, no thanks to the injury that he sustained on his first start against his parent owner Roma.

NPFL Players Remonstrate: Congested Fixtures, Astro Turfs Are Killing Us!

By Adeboye Amosu:

Players in the Nigeria Professional Football League are unhappy with the fixture congestion and the lack of natural grass playing surfaces in the country, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Matches in the 2016/2017 NPFL season are being played twice a week – on Sundays and Wednesdays, allowing the players fewer days to rest before travelling for their next fixtures.

Majority of the games are also played on artificial surfaces, a situation the players are not happy about

"It's hard and difficult to take. I don't know why we are subjected to this type of hardship," a player with league champions, Enugu Rangers who spoke on condition of anonymity told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"You play on a Sunday and then play on Wednesday again. We train the day after a game and travel that same day if the distance is far.

"The astro turf is another big problem for us. It's difficult to recover on time when you play on it compared to the natural grass."

His view was buttressed by his counterpart from Rivers United.

"The League Management Company need to do something about the way they arrange the fixtures, " the Rivers United Player added.

" I don't think they took the players' wellbeing and the type of pitches we play on into consideration before arranging the fixtures.

"Even in Europe where they have the best transport system, things are not done this way.

" It's tiring and I don't pray we continue like this till the end of the season."

Another player from one of the newly promoted teams also expressed disappointments with the decision of the LMC on fixtures arrangement.

"My brother, this is killing. How do you even expect the teams playing in the continent to do well when you play two games in a week on a astro turfs?

" We must learn to do the right things in this country and not make things difficult for ourselves."

Oliseh Rings Changes As Fortuna Sittard Go For Broke Against Almere City

By Nnamdi Ezekute:

Fortuna Sittard manager, Sunday Oliseh, has ringed changes at the Dutch Jupiler League side, and he admits he has a team which will be play together for the first time in a competitive game when they clash with home side, Almere City at Yanmar Stadium Almere on Friday – the Nigerian's third league game in charge, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Completesportsnigeria.com understands that Fortuna Sittard have signed some new players since Oliseh led the side to win his debut league match 1-0 at Achilles on January 13.

Oliseh is starting to hone a fresh team with the new signings after playing 1-1 at home with Telstar last week Friday. He is set to unleash a relatively unknown starting eleven on Almere City, looking to bag another good result on the road as he continues in his quest to lead Fortuna out of itheir current relegation trough.

Fortuna Sittard are 16th, fifth from the bottom, in the 20 team Dutch Jupiler League table, while their Friday's hosts, Almere City, are seventh from the top, with a game in hand.

"Of course, we go for a good result though it's the first time that the players will play with each other in a competition, it is tough to see how that turns out," Oliseh tells Fortuna Sittard website before their departure to Almere.

Oliseh's new look Fortuna team is boosted by Turkish midfielder Emrah Bassan, a loanee from Galatasaray, after his work permit was procured earlier in the week.

Oliseh confirms that Bassan's availability comes at the right time when the club's regular, Jordie Briels, is out injured.

"Yes, Emrah Bassan will start," Oliseh declares.

"Against Telstar, Jordie got a knock on his foot. He tried to train on Tuesday, but it wasn't easy."

Oliseh sanctioned the departure of four players who tabled a transfer request following the arrival of new players, ostensibly to be in new clubs where more playing time for them will be guaranteed.

According to the club's website, the players include Souhail Belkassem, Stijn Cologne, Giel Piereij and Benjamin Bahtiri.

oga forgiveness you have come again o how is leon balogun a sentimental choice? a regular for mainz and our best defender for now. i thought ebuehi was primarily a RB and was just a makeshift LB? anyhow if he will give echejiele good competition then no wahala. ighalo has already been dropped long time ago by rohr. i like ideye too in your initial team line up but sentiments aside iheanacho conversion rate for super eagles is better

Hehehehe! Make una coolu down make I land na. grin

How many games has Leon played this season?

If you want to see the real Nacho, play him behind the striker or a free role then he deliver.

Playing upfront, is like you are restricting his game.

Ideye and Ighalo is better or we bring Abraham.

Beijing 2008 Olympics silver medalist Chinedu Obasi has ended speculation about his future after signing a deal with Chinese League One side Shenzhen F.C.

The Nigeria international has put pen to paper on a one-year contract, and Shenzhen F.C have retained the option of extending the agreement for twelve months at the end of the 2017 season, according to fotbolldirekt.se.

The capture of Obasi is a big blow to Swedish Allsvenskan side AIK who did everything possible to extend his stay in Stockholm but were unsuccessful.

Now 30, the attacker previously had spells with Lyn Oslo, Hoffenheim and Schalke 04.

Shanghai Shenhua Top Stars Obafemi Martins, Tevez Left Off Champions League

Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua have left out their two biggest stars, Obafemi Martins and marquee signing Carlos Tevez from the initial Champions League roster submitted to the Asian Football Confederation.

South Korea international defender Kim Kee-hee has been included on the preliminary list but three other foreigners Demba Ba, Moreno and Fredy Guarín missed out.

With the Asian Champions League operating the 3+1 rule, manager Gus Poyet has not yet made a choice on the foreigners to drop.

Shanghai Shenhua have to submit their final list to the AFC latest February 1, seven days before their clash with Global / Tampines Rovers or Brisbane Roar.

Obafemi Martins, 32, has playing experience in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

Chelsea Looking To Loan Out Promising Nigerian Defender, Ola Aina

www.nairaland.com/attachments/4794534_71867ola20aina202_jpeg64a9975a002ae8f91c622657f7fec005

Chelsea coach Antonio Conte announced at Friday’s press conference that talented Nigerian right back Ola Aina might be farmed out on loan before the transfer window closes for business next week.

Despite impressing the Italian gaffer at pre-season training, the England youth-teamer has seen his first-team opportunities limited in the
current campaign, with Super Eagles star Victor Moses ahead of him in the pecking order.

“For the rest of the season Ruben and Chalobah will for sure continue to stay with us, ” Conte told reporters.

“For Ola, there could be the possibility to go on loan, but there are four days to see the situation.”

Aina, 20, has managed five appearances for the Blues this season, and has made the matchday squad for competitive matches 14 times.

He has a valid contract with Chelsea until the end of the 2019-2020 season.

A Belgian football website has had a bit of a rant at Celtic, and it may even serve to annoy Rangers fans as the country’s football league is pretty much dismissed.

Celtic and Rangers have been in the world media a lot over the past few months, with world football fans happy to see the return of the Old Firm and watch, or read about, Brendan Rodgers and Mark Warburton sending their teams into battle.

Yet, Celtic moving for Henry Onyekuru, and
specifically the player trying to force the move to Glasgow, has caused some annoyance in Belgium.

Anderlecht online have published an opinion
piece querying why Onyekuru would want to
leave Belgium, where he currently plays for
Eupen, for Celtic.

‘We are the last to minimise the record and the
history of the Green-Whites, but the truth has its place. Celtic stands 45th in the UEFA club
ranking. Anderlecht 37th. Scotland’s league is
23rd in the UEFA ranking. Israel (22) and Norway (24) ahead, Belgium stands at nine.

‘Why would Onyekuru like to go to Scotland? For their sunny climate? Unless the Nigerian is a big fan of bagpipe music or the Loch Ness Monster, he just wants to Celtic because they are the only ones who showed an interest.’

Harsh, and whilst there’s no arguments over
rankings, there are other things which make
Celtic attractive. The battle with Rangers may not be what it once was, but is still considered one of the world’s biggest matches, and is covered in the world media as such.

When Moussa Dembele scored a hat-trick as Celtic beat Rangers 5-1, it got the young talent
coverage everywhere, and brought him to the
attention of many clubs.

Celtic’s average attendance is just over 55,000,
and the closest in the Belgian league, Club
Brugge, doesn’t even reach half of that. Indeed,
10 of the Jupiler League’s 16 teams don’t break
10,000 as an average, and Onyekuru’s current
club Eupen have an average of little over 3,000.

Rangers are pushing on 50,000, but it’s fair to
say that, like in Belgium, it drops off a cliff after
that, however, Onyekuru would be looking to play every other week in front of the Celtic Park
faithful. It’s a huge pull.

Then there’s the great European nights, with
Celtic excitedly welcomed around Europe, and
the odd result to hawk back to glory days.

Brendan Rodgers is also an attraction for young
players, and Moussa Dembele has praised him
repeatedly, which won’t have been lost on
Onyekuru.

It’s fair enough that Anderlecht Online want
young footballers to stay in Belgium, but to paint Celtic are some sort of dreadful destination is simply wrong.

Fanendo Adi sets 20-goal target for 2017 MLS season

Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi has set a personal goals’ target of 20 goals in the 2017 MLS season with Portland Timbers.

Portland will open their 2017 season on Friday, March 3, at home against Minnesota United FC.

Adi, who traveled with his team to Tucson for the pre-season training, told the club's TV that he is happy to return to duty and hopes to score more goals in the new campaign.

"Eighteen goals not good enough, 20 goals, that is it. Together we will achieve that,” he declared.

"I feel good to be back, I am excited to see the boys back to duty and smiling. We can't wait to get back to work. We are all excited for what the year will bring."

Adi scored 18 goals in 2015 to help his team win the MLS Cup and 16 goals in 2016.
