Adi demands better combo with strike partner at MLS club

Portland Timbers hitman Fanendo Adi has stated he is looking forward to a great partnership and understanding with strike partner Diego Valeri when the MLS season kicks off in March.

Adi, who scored 16 goals last season, said he is excited with the pre-season training at Tucson, Arizona, and looks forward to having a great unit who understand themselves on and off the pitch.

"We are just getting back into it, first day was light but the second day the intensity was high. I think this is the way we need to go because it's important to get the legs moving,” said the Nigerian striker.

"I am looking forward to get myself ready, get back my fitness and shape. I also want to use this pre season to strike better understanding with Diego Valeri. The whole team will also get together here, understand ourselves better to form great bond on and off the pitch."

Rohr to visit Mikel, others

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr is to visit
John Mikel Obi in his new club, Tianjin FC in China in the second week of February .

Rohr will also discuss the new developments in
the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s 2019 Africa
Cup of Nations qualifiers, with specific mention of the game against South Africa inside the Nest of Champions Stadium in Uyo in June and also the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

According to NFF scribe, Sanusi Mohammed, the SuperEagles tactician has been given permission by the football house to visit any player he feels is important to him in delivering the two qualification tickets.

Rohr will also use the opportunity to discuss with other players playing in China such as Obafemi Martins.

“The federation has given Rohr the freedom to do what is necessary. He owes us (Nigeria) the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations’ tickets. The federation can’t stop him from traveling, if the purpose is enhancing his job with no cost implication to the federation. It is our duty to encourage him to do what is best for us to be in Russia,” Sanusi said.

Sanusi also stated that the Eagles boss will visit
London to meet with Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex
Iwobi, Ademola Lukman, Ahmed Musa, Wilfred
Ndidi. He said the visit is to prepare their minds
for the tasks ahead.

“I can tell you that Rohr calls the office daily from Gabon and we speak each time our World Cup opponents play in their games in the ongoing Nations Cup in Gabon. Rohr is really doing a good job,” Sanusi said.

Looollll.... "Tough calls all!" Indeed.... grin

But I will watch this space shaa... Your prediction might happen and if it does especially for Senegal vs Cameroun, then I will send Yara Yara to go deliver the latest HBP pills to Sir Joseph... grin grin grin

Tunisia are favorites in their tie but Burkina faso can surprise.

Senegal are favorites but history favors Cameroun.

DR Congo are in imperious form at the moment but Ghana edges them in pedigree. (Between them lies 6 AFCON titles... Ghana-4, DRC-2)

No favorites in north african derbies so it could go either way for Egypt or Morocco.

Sir..... Let's see how it goes... wink

Yup. Fingers crossed. The AFCON is getting sweet....I have already rescheduled all my appointments this weekend.

And by the way, I am praying for Cameroun's loss because I don't want them to discover their form before we, hopefully, trash them in October.

TRANSFER SAGA: ONYEKURU NOT DROPPED,
LEFT CLUB TO COOL HEAD - CONFIDANT

A close confidant of AS Eupen forward Henry
Onyekuru has told AfricanFootball.com the
youngster was not dropped for Thursday’s match against Standard Liege, which ended in a 2-2 draw, but that the player was not around the club to be selected.

"Henry (Onyekuru) was not dropped by Eupen
coach from their game against Standard Liege
because he left to where they could not find him two days before the game, so he was not
available for selection,” a confidant to the
Nigerian striker opened up.

“He went somewhere to cool his head over the
transfer issue that has been lingering on."

His whereabouts remain unknown and he has yet to resume training with his club.

He has accused Eupen of trying to force him to
sign for Russian champions CSKA Moscow even
though he has made up his mind to join Scottish champions Celtic, who have tabled an official bid for him.

Exclusive – Eupen Want Red Hot Onyekuru
To Join RB Leipzig But Forward Insist He Wants Celtic Move

The proposed destination of hot in demand
Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru has pitted him against the hierarchy of Belgian side KAS Eupen.

19 year old Onyekuru is presently the most
sought after Nigerian teen in the January transfer window, with CSKA Moscow, Fenerbahce, RB Leipzig and Celtic all jostling for his signature.

However Celtic are the only team to have firmed up their interest with a bid, which the forward wants the club to accept but the Sporting director of the team is adamant that he won’t be sold this January.

While Onyekuru feels the club have renegade on their promise to let him leave this January, the director also wants the forward to sign
representation contract with a close friend of his, who is an intermediary.

The said intermediary is behind the RB Leipzig
offer, which will only materialise in the summer
not in January unlike the offer from Celtic, which
will see him move this January.

Onyekuru should be very careful in navigating this issue. Many players have destroyed their careers by having hot heads. If he doesn't want to go to RB Leipzig, then he should just stay put...keep working hard for his club and see out his contract. I am beginning to worry about him this one he has started chatting with Odemwengie. Peter Odemwengie isn't known for making the best decisions.

Naaah. Lookman has already indicated that he would prefer to stick with England. That story is over.

But I know what's going on here. The website knew that Rohr is going to England in a couple of weeks to meet with player; so the junk journos there want to pre-empt his meeting by publishing this "scoop".

Currently, Firmino plays in a 4-3-3 formation and he is doing very well, Torres, we know thrived in that 4-2-3-1 formation while Suarez can play that role too because he has stamina, he can hold unto the ball and he can dribble very well, but Iheanacho can't do that.

We saw it against Algeria. He is better as a supporting striker or attacking midfielder. We all saw that in his previous games where he assisted and scored goals consecutively in four matches which he struggled to replicate against Algeria.

Please, look at my previous comment and you see that I didn't mention 'the big man' as the only perquisite for a striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation. There are other I mentioned Iheanacho doesn't have. It was very glaring against Algeria.

It depends on the perspective you want to see it. Against Algeria, Iheanacho caused problems repeatedly with his speed. This affected the balance of the Algerians and gave our other forward going players room to operate.

That pressure and pace upfront is something we need to maintain. It is like having an extra man for the defence to deal with.

Only Iheanacho offers that in the team until Success regains his form and Osimhen gets the nod from Rohr.

EXTRA TIME: LEON BALOGUN GETS RIDICULOUS REQUEST FROM FAN

A fan of the Super Eagles defender seems to be lost in the Christmas season and has just tabled 11 requests to his football icon

It is several weeks into the New Year and Nigeria international Leon Balogun got a fan's Christmas wishes.

The Lagos based supporter who claimed to be a civil right activist, a public communicator, human right public defender and a member of the police assistance committee of Nigeria, requested that the Mainz defender sends him some of his souvenirs - ranging from club T-shirt to a branded football boot.

"I hereby request for your personal souvenirs,
club jersey -large (home and away), long sleeve
branded with your name, club face cap, club T-
shirt, club track suit, photograph, football boot
branded in personal name (size 9), sport slippers (size 9), sport travelling bag - large branded in club's name, and one trainer (size 9)," the fan wrote.

Vexed by the outrageous demands from the fan, Balogun in a sarcastic response also promised to add a house plus some plots of land to make up the wish list.

"Oh yeah, and cause I'm already at it, let me buy u a house and some land, too! SMH #
ComradeChristoperChukwukaEmelifeonwu.''

Well, who knows Balogun who is one of Gernot
Rohr's favourite defenders in the Super Eagles
may decide to give the 'ardent' fan his weekly
wages. LOL!

January Deadline day approaches.... Ighalo transfer... To be or not to be...

Ighalo Could Leave Watford In Three Days
Time, Mazzari Confirms

Watford striker Odion Ighalo’s future appears to
be away from Watford after head coach Walter
Mazzarri confirmed the club have received several offers for him.

The arrival of forwards Mauro Zarate and M’Baye Niang this week increased doubts over Ighalo’s place in the squad and Mazzarri signalled this at today’s press conference.

Mazzarri said: “Ighalo you know better than me
has always been a very important player for this
team. But there are times when a player can end their time with one club and take a decision on their career.

“This is a decision that just come from the club
and the player and there’s not much we can do
about it.”

The Hornets boss added: “With Odion Ighalo we
know there are some offers but it’s still early to
say anything.

“They told me there is a very important offer but again we will evaluate in the next few days.

“I don’t like to say all the details also because I
don’t know in full. I know there is more than one [offer] but it might also be from China.”

Mazzarri was asked the next step in terms of the Ighalo transfer but showed signs of frustration in his response.

The Italian said: “I don’t know. You’re asking me too much about Ighalo. The club told me you would ask about Ighalo because there have been some offers.

“For the rest you need to ask the club. I am the
head coach and they are the ones taking care of the transfers.”

FA CUP- Musa Subbed In, Ndidi Benched As
Leicester City Secures Dramatic Draw

English Champions Leicester City almost crashed out of the Emirate FA Cup but Wes Morgan late goal helped them draw 2-2 against a Darrent Bent inspired Derby County.

The former England striker scored at both ends, firstly netting an own goal before cancelling it out with an equaliser for the Championship side to bring scores to 1-1.

Craig Bryson scored what most thought was the tie breaker in the 40th minute to take scores to 2-1, a score Leicester struggled to level despite the introduction of Riyad Mahrez and Ahmed Musa.

Mahrez was introduced for Shinji Okazaki in the
64th minute, while Musa came on for Marc
Albrighton with 16 minutes left to play.

However it was another substitute Demarai Gray who proved to be an inspired introduction setting up Wes Morgan for the leveler in the 87th minute.

Leicester City hanged on to force a replay which will take place at the King Power Stadium, where Wilfred Ndidi who was an unused substitute in today’s tie could feature.

I agree with the options of germany and france.

But Eupen wanted him to change his agent to one (known to the director and) who has ties with RB Leipzig with a view to a transfer in the summer.

I think Henry was a bit too fast or froward in this matter initially and now is rushing things a bit and now the club are doing all they can to frustrate him.

Chippa Plan To Tie Down Nigerian Goalkeeper

Chippa United have plans to offer Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi a new contract.

The Nigerian national team goalkeeper has been impressive for Chippa, since his arrival at the club in 2015. The 30-year-old has made the number one jersey his own at the Chilli Boys, under coach Dan Malesela and his technical team.

Having penned a two-year deal when he joined
Chippa, and with the Port Elizabeth outfit satisfied with his contribution, the club now want to extend his deal before it expires in June.

“Daniel Akpei is likely to sign a two-year contract extension at Chippa United. He is likely to be in a new deal to keep him with the club until 2019,” a source told the Siya crew.

Pep finally speaks on Nacho's situation at Man City
[s]..............................................................[/s]

Man City boss reveals Iheanacho stance and
January transfer plans

The Manchester City manager Pep
Guardiola talked about the many forwards
he has at the club

Pep Guardiola is prepared for Manchester City
departures in the January window but says
Kelechi Iheanacho will be staying at the club.

The 20-year-old was left out of the matchday
squad against Spurs, raising questions over
whether there will be room for him now that
Gabriel Jesus has arrived.

According to City's coach, there will be -
although like Nolito, the Nigerian will have to
accept that there is stiff competition and clearly
too many players for those positions given the
way the team sets up.

“We have seven strikers, three in the middle, four or five wide," said the manager. Normally we play two or three.

“I don’t know how many others play. We play five or six offensive players and thanks to that we create a lot of chances.

“That is the case if you analyse the games against Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea and United at the beginning of the season, and especially in the first half of the season.

“In the second half we created much, much more than our opponents but we didn't create the kind of chances for this kind of player.

“But of course Kelechi is part of the squad."
Guardiola is looking for confidence and adaptation from his players if they are to get a chance under him and work their way into the team.

“Jesus and Nolito are young strikers, Gabriel, Rash and Kelechi, they are so, so young strikers and they will be the future. They have to adapt.

“Rash is only playing in the Champions League for the second time in his life and fighting to win the title so of course we give them time.

“Of course we evaluate how they do in the games and the training sessions.

“At the end I try to be fair based on what I have seen in performances.

“Of course I have to evaluate it based on what I
see on the grass.

“It is a case for all the players here - for the
strikers, the wingers, the centre-backs, the full
backs and the goalkeepers, all of them.

“When they don't play, they have to win my
confidence in them."

City have had a quiet January transfer window
and Jesus is expected to be their only signing but some fringe players could leave; young defender Tosin Adarabioyo has been linked with a move to Everton.

Guardiola is prepared for departures but is
pleased with the squad he will take into the
second half of the season.

Rejecting the suggestion he was disappointed
that nobody has followed Jesus through the door, he said: "I am so happy with the squad.

“Maybe someone is leaving, I don't know, you
cannot be sure 100 percent but we haven’t had
meetings about that."

Helping them beat the drop will boost his reputation. It will be harder to fit in at this time of the season at another club. Plus i am not sold on Scotland as a place for him to develope, France and Germany are much better.

When an offer is on the table. Onyekuru should be thinking of fighting to break into the squad of Celtic and not battling relegation with Eupen.

If French and German clubs put bids for Onyekuru, it is different. We are talking of Celtic with an offer for him.

NPFL Players Remonstrate: Congested Fixtures, Astro Turfs Are Killing Us!

By Adeboye Amosu:

Players in the Nigeria Professional Football League are unhappy with the fixture congestion and the lack of natural grass playing surfaces in the country, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Matches in the 2016/2017 NPFL season are being played twice a week – on Sundays and Wednesdays, allowing the players fewer days to rest before travelling for their next fixtures.

Majority of the games are also played on artificial surfaces, a situation the players are not happy about

"It's hard and difficult to take. I don't know why we are subjected to this type of hardship," a player with league champions, Enugu Rangers who spoke on condition of anonymity told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"You play on a Sunday and then play on Wednesday again. We train the day after a game and travel that same day if the distance is far.

"The astro turf is another big problem for us. It's difficult to recover on time when you play on it compared to the natural grass."

His view was buttressed by his counterpart from Rivers United.

"The League Management Company need to do something about the way they arrange the fixtures, " the Rivers United Player added.

" I don't think they took the players' wellbeing and the type of pitches we play on into consideration before arranging the fixtures.

"Even in Europe where they have the best transport system, things are not done this way.

" It's tiring and I don't pray we continue like this till the end of the season."

Another player from one of the newly promoted teams also expressed disappointments with the decision of the LMC on fixtures arrangement.

"My brother, this is killing. How do you even expect the teams playing in the continent to do well when you play two games in a week on a astro turfs?

" We must learn to do the right things in this country and not make things difficult for ourselves."

Utter crap

They want to make the league attractive and successful for investors without taking into consideration the opinions of the peeps that make it look professional@footballers.

That's not an excuse of we will get to this issue soon, we are managing. No!

The players make up.the game, and then the fans.

Dunno why these guys in charge just don't know what, how to do stuff with our league.

Still annoys me that road trips is still the order of the day. Flights??

These are the kind of things the LMC should be enforcing.

I also made that point, I am not a fan of what Eupen tried to do but its seems in his best intrest if he was going for Scotland over Germany.

Stay put? It seems you did not pari hear that Eupen is fighting relegation. That is why the young man is devastated. Eupen betrayed him badly and it is disheartening. It is clear they do not want the young man to go to where his heart is leading him.

What does that mean? Didn't Isaac Success stay put and fight a relegation battle? Plus football is a business, it's not about heart. He cannot go anywhere he wants, he is owned by a team.

Let me ask you something, Forgiveness too... now that Mikel has gone to China which is not a competitive league by any standard, should he still be commanding an automatic spot in our starting eleven? Remember that the coach said that if Ighalo moves to China he would be forgotten, Fanendo Adi has not been invited since because he is presumably playing in a weak league but the US league is obviously better than the Chinese league, So shouldn't Mikel be treated the same way for the sake of equality?

GoodJoe before you answer, remember you said training with a good coach trumps game time, what's the name of the coach that Mikel is going to be training with? I don't know, So isn't he going to start declining?
