In December last year, two different client was at out diagnostic workshop with their Nissan pathfinder Complaining of the Engines giving them issues and they have changes the car engine before now and needs us to try seeing what can be done.

After proper diagnosis of both SUV Engine, both engines have knocking sounds when the engine is running with the production of black smokes and we have two options, either to buy another engine or rebuild the existing VQ40 engines in both cars which is the main core of our business. (Rebuilding/ overhaul of engines and transmission with quality OE parts)

In the rebuild we decided not to use a standard rings for the rebuild but use a .50mm Piston rings size because we not too sure of the space within the engine blocks cos we didn't open up the engine and we will be importing all parts to be used, so it's easier to file down the piston rings if it's bigger than we purchasing a standard size piston rings and the fitting would be wrong.

The parts purchased for the rebuild are;

- Nissan 4.0L VQ40 (.50mm) OE Piston rings made by Nipping Piston Rings of Japan
- Nissian 4.0L VQ40 Main Engine Bearing (std) OE made by CAP Certified Automotive Parts Inc
- Nissian 4.0L VQ40 Connecting Rod Bearing (std) OE made by CAP Certified Automotive Parts Inc
- Nissian 4.0L VQ40 Thurst Washer (std) OE made by CAP Certified Automotive Parts Inc
- Valve stem oil seals made by Fel-pro of USA
- Denso Iridium Plugs
- Tough Guard Oil filter made by Fram
- Valvoline SYNpower 5w-30 engine oil.

All listed parts have arrived and the rebuilding would be starting soon. Before we start let's have a view of all mentioned parts list that was purchased.

Also in the process of purchasing, it was decided that the Engine oil pumps should be changed and it was purchased also.

As we now have all parts on ground, we can proceed to call our clients to bring their cars in for the rebuild

Finally our oil.

Please stay glued as we give you process updates on the rebuild and out come.

In the last quarter of last year two engines was rebuilt by use,

A 2.5L Toyota engine from a 2011 Camry and a 1.8L 2ZR toyota engine from a 2009 corolla and the owners are currently enjoying their like brand new engines which is to last for years without issues.

Proper procedure is to measure bores and buy the right pistons/ rings, if bores are worn, add sleeves or re bore to a new piston size/ring size. Filing rings is not proper.

You are right bro

We hope to re bore than filing, we couldn't measure bores at the time of diagnosing because of two reasons

First been that we buying in the OE parts from US and the second is because we don't want to ground the customers car at the workshop before the parts arrives so dropping the engine to measure bores means we wouldn't be able to achieve our second reason and customer would be impatient for parts to arrive when their engine is opened up.

The trade was learnt via technology transfer from waukesha and caterpillar certified engine rebuilders from US who came to train our engineers. we also have a Vibrations Analyst and Waukesha Engine certified Engineer as part of the team.

The run of the mill technicians in Nigeria do not go through this trouble of getting original parts to rebuild an engine.

So i wanted to be sure where that came from, and I like your response to the other gentleman

It is good to know that people like you exist, in the States, you can find people who do so many things you need online, in Nigeria that is not the case, you have to ask someone who knows someone who knows who does X or Y or Z

Even more interesting is the fact that you are not in Lagos, and that this is teamwork not a one-man show.

Keenly following, if you do this job right, and maintain a good attitude towards potential customers and your professional colleagues, you will open doors that will surprise even you.

Get a website too do not rely only on this forum to promote your trade!

There are many Nigerians who would be prefer to rebuild an engine with a known history but a little fault to gambling with a tokunbo engine with an unknown history!

But they have not been able to find the right guy!
