5million is just too small. There will pay and still sent those messages because there are profiting from the difference after deducting the fine.

It's 5 million naira per each phone number they send an unsolicited messages

N5 million is per SMS. Imagine they send 10 of such SMS to 10 people each. The fine is 10 * 10 * 5 million = 500million.

Sounds like NCC telling network companies:

"Each of you guys, give us 5million and collect your monies back from your subscribers" undecided

I don't really care about the sms. The annoying ones are those pop-ups that comes out when making calls that I always end up pressing them plus the annoying calls from airtel ( diffrent numbers) for stupid stuff like Great news blah...... & qualification for extra credit borrowing

Re: NCC To Fine Network Providers N5m For Unsolicited Text Messages by yedidiah(m): 11:07am On Jan 27, 2017
if only I got 5m for every unsolicited text message or call I get from airtel alone; leaving out Mtn and gloembarassed EFCC would have frozen my account by now grin

Dis new NCC are as criminal as their new ogas. Na dem suppose collect d fine abi d subscribers? I remember d last tym one of dis ntwrks was asked to refund subscribers. Dats how it shld b. It's now looking more like d ntwrk providers are helping d NCC to milk d subscribers. Generate millions/billions from unsolicited msgs and simply remit their share of 5m to d NCC.

Our gov don turn to bedbug. Keep sucking investors all in the name of fines.

Good step anyway atleast my phone can rest

seriously can Nigerians ever be satisfied? This is one of the rare occasions where our govt is responsive to the nuisance constituted by these investors, and someone has this to say in form of a thank you? These investors don't try the nonsense they try in Nigeria in more regimented countries. That is the same reason the likes of Shell and Chevron diplomatically satisfy their whims and caprices in Nigeria in the name of exploitation. What we should be particular about is ensuring that we the victims are made beneficiaries of the punitive measures that the purpose of justice may be served.

This warning has never been heed by telecom companies, NCC with its loud mouth. A warning or policy without action is just noise, Okbye, we've notice your existence.

just 5m only?....poor calculations that will never serve as deterrent.

If they make 200m from unsolicited messages and they are fined 5m,y wud they stop when the fine is negligible

I believe that the 5m is for each message.... 10 message. 50m
If only they will enforce
