Wike doesn't know that Rivers state is first a Nigerian state before being a PDP state. Wike needs to appreciate that out of about 5 million rivers people, you could find at least 1 million sympathetic with the APC. APC is not the dominant party but its a major party willy nilly. He needs to chill.

is everything about politics?

The reason is not unknown. He invited the proprietors to a meeting to the government house and they failed to attend. Imagine the hubris! He's a lawyer, how can he abuse his office by pulling licenses on this issue? Na wa.

for wat reason?

This is a welcome development. I don't really support Wike, but on this I think he should show the schools who is boss. How can school proprietors ignore the call of a governor for a round table pally on the way forward for secondary education in Rivers state? If they think their connections would save them , then thy have another think coming. He should keep them closed till they learn their lessons.

OP is just being ridiculous and economical with the truth. All the private schools in Rivers state were invited to a meeting with the governor, where they are supposed to present their evidence of annual tax returns and other documents. Every other school in the state complied but some schools felt they are too big for the government, they boycotted the meeting knowing fully well the consequence.

Now, I know withdrawing their license is a little extreme cos the parents and their ward would ultimately suffer it most. A lesser penalty would do.

I blame the schools' management.

The schools in question are the top leading schools in portharcourt.. It is very difficult to shut them down for no good reason.. Wike should reconsider his decision.. Karma is real

So shutting down the schools and putting the education of thousands of children in jeopardy is the best solution. undecided

One of the best school in Nigeria. Charles Dale was affected simply because they missed a meeting conveyed by Emperor Wike.
Sad
Charles Dale did not even miss the meeting.
Their representative from Bereton attended the meeting and wrote the names of both schools in the attendance list.
Bereton Montessori is 3 minutes walking distance from govt house.

It quite funny when people make comments out of context or jump into ridiculous conclusions without prior investigation of the reason for such action. Besides, those saying the federal government should intervene should ask if the FG has even honoured their pact with ASUU or how much they budgeted for Education to care for such issues.

That is still no reason to act as he did . No wonder doing business in Nigeria is hell.

OP, guess you are economical with the truth. It was on news last week and I think it was their fault. He invited all the private schools to a meeting were he personally presided. Probably they thought that it was a commissioner that was coming, and most of them refused to come. This was what led to the suspension /withdrawal of their licences. It was even on morning cross fire on Nig Info this morning.
Re: Wike Shuts Down 16 Schools In Rivers State by ndcide(m): 1:27pm On Jan 30, 2017
They should go and beg before other people collect their customers.

If they didn't attend the meeting and didn't send a representative, that's nonchalance.

Unless we are being sentimental.

You are being very simplistic and pedestrian. Dude, privately owned secondary schools in any state get their licenses from the state ministry of education. That is an executive controlled ministry with the governor as its ultimate boss. I expect you to request for a copy of the letter of invitation. Then read through to ascertain its content, that is, if the meeting was termed mandatory in which case there would be attendant consequences for refusal to send a qualified representative.

The measure Wike has taken is simply to remind them that he is no joker. He wants them to know that Rivers state has a government, and that government receives or forcefully extracts its deserved honour.

You're saying same thing...please answer the simple question.

Lemme even go further, if I call wike an idiot, he can order my company to be sealed?

Just to let me know he's no joker?
Re: Wike Shuts Down 16 Schools In Rivers State by OlujobaSamuel: 1:47pm On Jan 30, 2017
so meeting with the gov is now a pre-requisite for license? what i know is that the meeting can give rise to a policy that might be unfavorable to absentees, but it should never be a condition for license.
for those defending this, what will you do if cbn does same to banks that isnt present at the bankers meeting?

Exactly the response I expected.

Call a spade a spade and stop disgracing yourself.

You lots shout Executive rascality when it suits you but when the wike's, fayose's do it?? You try to paint a different picture.

Let an American governor/mayor give this order and watch the affected schools bankrupt the Local council, local govt or state govt with successful litigations.

I can only pity you and others with your mindset.

Bye
