There are so many ignorant people in defence still praising GEJ. The noise people are making is just to prevent a future re occurrence. Nigeria is not a toy for some ill prepared, confused kleptomaniac to be playing games. We are also watching this Government especially in defence and security. So far they are scoring B- but there is room for improvement. We should not have wasted so much time pursuing Super Tucano.
That and not keeping up the pressure on Boko for two weeks are the only reasons they don't have an A

I only give credit were it is due. This government is also doing nothing interms of defence acquisitions. I'll score them F-9. Only 2 Helicopters and 4 Super Mushaks so far. That's not even pass.

They are actually doing worse than GEJ, but they can still improve with 2 years to go.

Nigerian institutions would not allow a Jammeh type scenario here. Anyway for scenario sake........

Nigeria is an African leader, where is such an invasion going to even begin from.

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others ".

Apart from the Insurgency in Nigeria, Nigerian Security forces are currently deployed in Liberia, Sudan, SLR, Mali, Guinea, Benin Republic, Somalia, Sao-Tome and Principe, and now 1500 troops in Gambia. 9 countries in all.

Those forces would be destroyed in their countries even before they get on the buses that would take them to the airports that would fly them.

There would be enough gunboat diplomacy for any of the countries planning to contribute to the force.

Nigerian ISR would follow their Presidents, while Satellites imagery would keep tabs on troop movement.

Nigerian commandos would be on standby to Kidnap thier Presidents and military chiefs.

It is simply not possible. The countries would be screwed even before they mobilize. The Nigerian military is nearly 3 times the other West-African armies put together.

In simpler terms, the Gambian invasion doesn't serve as a model to follow. That's all I wanted to hear from you, thanks.

Experts seem to believe the ECOWAS model is a model to follow. Nigeria, Senegal and ECOWAS have show Military force and Diplomacy is the best model to follow.

Then you proceed in saying if ECOWAS would want to put boots in Nigeria, you'll kidnap their presidents and fight-them-all.... By your own words - it's not a model to follow.

Frumentius, I was right all along. The ECOWAS intervention in Gambia was illegal.

For days, I asked you and the other proponents who supported the invasion of Gambia to provide the legal proof which backs such an intervention, of course you guys could not and some others resorted to name calling.

Here is the evidence which supports my opinion.

ECOWAS used Article 58 of its revised treaty relating to regional security to justify the intervention, according to Nigerian legal expert Barrister Hassan Liman. Liman said the law stipulates that member states must work to safeguard and consolidate relations to maintain peace, stability and security within the region.

He added that the article does not give ECOWAS the right to use force to oust a leader.

hmmm. LAW is very tricky. The troops that went into Gambia initially did not go in there to oust Jammeh, that would have been illegal, they went there to prevent the break down of law and order that may arise from the new president been sworn in the consulate compound of Gambia in Senegal, once Barrow was sworn in he legitimized the deployment of ECOMIG troops into Gambia by making a formal request for military assistant from ECOWAS as the new Head of State. That alone had made the second phase of the Gambian intervention a legitimate one. It is very legitimate for leaders of the ECOWAS commission to jointly deploy troops in a member country for human rights concerns. So the initial deployment was for human right concern not to remove Jammeh it was after Barrow was sworn in that the interventionists forces got the teeth they needed to bite just incase Jammeh refuses to leave. That's what the ECOWAS guys may say in their defence. Or they will just say "we got angry".

You're not the US, not even in West Africa... Maybe I should remind you how much you struggled with BH. How do you think you can battle Senegal, Niger, Ghana and Cameroon combined? .. You don't have solid ground formations, your airforce only drops free-fall bombs, your navy doesn't fire anything above a 76mm projectile.

You're over estimating your small military muscle.

Hey, Miss informed guy, we are not only US to West Africa but to Africa too. If you like you can cry.

You can ask US how long they've battled with talibans, alqeada, ISIS, terrorism in US and other. Many countries are by far more peaceful than US in terms of crime and terrorism despite the amount they spend on security.

South Africa couldn't secure their country from poachers and you blame another for not defending themselves from terrorist despite having terrorist in Mali, Libya, Algeria, Egypt and clashes in countries like C.A.R, Congo, Sudan, South Sudan, etc which is enough market to resupply weapons and fighters to them.

Mr miss informed, the Nigerian airforce don't just drop bombs, they have access to satellite imagery, ISR platforms and even PGMs just like many advanced airforce. It's not by how many Aircrafts you have but by how well you use the little you have. I believe we are far ahead of South African airforce with 26 Gripens jet but just 6-9 qualified pilots and 4 hawks with only one pilot who can land at sea. Every country don't fight war like the US. All that matters is that our strategy works well for us and many countries have been trooping to Nigeria to learn this wonderful low cost strategy of defeating terrorist.

And for your Senegal, Niger, Mali and cameroon invasion, all I can do is to laugh in Pidgin. You can add South Africa to the list too and I swear nothing would still happen.

Henry from the law perspective all wars are illegal, but we have to know something law is possible because of power, when we are talking about military action law has no power cant do anything ... we all have to read the constitution ...
The state gouvernment allows the constitution, the law is nothing without the power, it is not by magic if the police is also called law enforcement agency... when we talk about country against country there is no law there are just Agreements often call treaties, but treaties are respected by the weakest ones...

PMB was a formal military man while GEJ was a bloody civilian. Although I will still say PMB tried because he had fewer resources in terms of government income and a very high exchange rate(155 to a $ now 305 to a $ officially) which would limit procurement of weapons. The best thing is just to make sure we produce most of our basic military needs within the country.
