from everything you typed here. I can tell you work with them

Sorry, old chap.....I don't work for the PHCN....or the DISCOS, GENCOS, and even the TCN.

Just making the observation that we do not have improvements in power supply because many people are not paying their share...leaving a few people to pay for the many that dont....leaving PHCN, and the DISCOS....cash starved....and unable to pay for the improvements that would give us light 24/7.

Oh and....assault is still a crime. Even if the victim is a PHCN staff.

(I am also a DISCO customer like you....I pay my bills....)

But we kept on paying their price...and they had the money to improve services, add new services, and also bring down prices eventually.(SIM cards used to cost N5000.).

Actually I work in the human services field....and I am not a PHCN staff (I even had an issue with them 18 months ago over prepaid meter vs estimated bill....and ended up with estimated bill much to my annoyance.).

I am merely making the point that if we want improved services...we have to pay our power bills. (And by the way, that includes some Govt agencies and parastatals).

Or we beg PMB to go to the World bank and take a loan for....oh well....N5 trillion naira , just for power sector.Guess who pays the debt back?

So Buhari has reduced Nigeria to borrowing N5 million. When back it the days, you here every 6 months on NEWS, 'FG to expend $2 billion on power generation budgets.'

Some people sha. It pains more when I realise such people voted Buhari to power.

I am in my thirties, and I work for my living, and I no longer live with my dear mama and papa...the dears...so your thinking that I am a grade 4 kid shows that your powers of mediumship are rather poor. You need to go back to medium school.

Ask around or just Google how many MULTI-trillions of Nigeria has been allocated to NEPA, IKEDC and other power generating companies.

Govt privatised NEPA in 2014. All NEPA gets from govt nowadays is ''counterpart funding''..which was about N500million...not enough .

The DISCOS and GENCOS are now generating their funds themselves.

After 56 years, a major crudeoil producing country is still importing fuel, diesel products.

Yes I know....and I find it disgraceful by the way. And really you are not psychic.

Point is...you don't get what you do not pay for.

Plus...ECN (which became NEPA in 1978) actually provided very good service. NEPA's problems began when the govt started connecting people to the national grid aimlessly....and when no investment was made in improving generating capacity, or transmission from 1980-2000.

GSM companies have done well...because we kept paying...even when the services was bad.(Like the time in 2004...when in one month I got 4 calls from someone calling another number...not mine!)......ensuring they had the money to make the improvements.

What I understand about your point is that we have to pay for the terrible power supply so they can have enough money to improve on their services ? Right ?

Wrong !!!!

Electricity is an end product. Do your employers/ clients/ customers pay you to go to school and gain the knowledge with which you offer them the services you now do?

The private companies who now run the power in the country are expected to have the ground capital to improve on their services and when Nigerians can have power for just 20hrs in a day , loopholes caused by those who don't pay would be highly discouraged and you would be surprised Nigerians would stand against people like the accused in the Op's post and ensure everyone now pays to ensure continuity of good power supply.

If they(private companies) offered to take over from the Government, they should understand that despite government money pumped into improving power supply, it still had little or no impact, is it the peanuts from struggling Nigerians that would now make the difference ?

Let's speak the truth to ourselves and think deeply.

Somethings seem ideal but not realistic.

(Yes...like you set up a business...and you are so magnanimous to give your customers what they want free of charge without paying anything to you so that you can have the money to look after yourself.....AND IMPROVE SERVICES?)

They are businesses.....they are in it to make a profit. Add the fact that Nigeria's power problems are very very serious....we need far more than what we have already spent (and it is too sad some corrupt people looted from that money we have already spent)...to improve things.

And when PHCN tries to get people who do not pay....like Mr Ozoigbo Ikenna....he assaults them, and we clap for him....not knowing that we are clapping against ourselves.

Yes...as I have said elsewhere on this thread....govt parastatals too have problems with paying (N58bn in 2016).

If those that owe PHCN/DISCO pay up...the money to get us to light 24/7 would be there

Sadly, PHCN also needs the money from the bills to make improvements so that you can have light 24/7.

Indeed one big reason why the DISCOS, GENCOS and TCN cannot guarantee light is because most Nigerians do not pay their light bills at all.

Even the prepaid meter that was supposed to end pay dodgers....people bypass them so that they can get free light.

And as a result...there is no money to buy new equipment, no money to upgrade existing equipment, and no money to even expand the power supply.

Thanks to privatisation, which most Nigerians did not oppose...the onus is even more on us to pay for our light. We cannot refuse to pay for light because they have not given us light at all. That means that there would be no money not only for power infrastructure improvement...but also no money for staff salaries too. And DISCO/GENCO workers are Nigerians like you...who also have bills to pay, and lives to maintain.

We may look at this man who beat up DISCO staff as a hero. We may even encourage more people to go ahead and commit acts of violence against DISCO staff....but remember....the reason why we do not have power is because we refuse to pay our bills.

Am sure the man who beat up the staff would complain if his working place did not give him his salary. He would complain that it prevents him from being an effective worker. Why then do we insist on making power supply inefficient for all....by refusing to pay our bills.

Sorry.....but Ozoigbo Ikenna and people like him ARE the reason why you Nigerian people do not have light.

Please...pay your bills. OK?

They should borrow money and do business, if it's working in other areas like Ports, Oil & Gas then it will work. After buying that asset at give away price, they still don't want to invest and give quality service...

But most persons are looking up to having prepaid metres? Why don't they give those persons? Why does it take time for them to send metres.let me give a life scenario that happened to my cousin. They bought 1,000 units of credit in 2015 and it carried them till December 2016 when the electricity staff disconnected him asking him why does he still have 600 units remaining. His response was that they badly see electricity being that they do load shedding (3hrs on 6 off, and most cases 3 days off). They accused him of by passing metres but latter on apologized after verification and was asked to pay N3,000 for reconnection. So tell me who's at fault?

Only beaten and no injury or swollen face The beaten not good enough all these power holding company deserve injurious beaten mean the kind of beaten that will land them in hospital bed for weeks. After police in Nigeria its power holding people I hate seen even in the street.

The man did not beat him well enough in this kind of thing you know you will go to court over it its better you beat him and add the court beaten join so he can get enough injury so if you are detain you will know what you are being detain for after all mission completed

As much as I would like to ignore you, I also understand that your lack of exposure on how the issue of power works in other countries is a factor here.

For starters, competition helped the Telecommunication industry and not the money Nigerians paid. MTN,a South African company paid huge amount of money for licenses and other Taxes and still went on to build their own masts around Lagos and Abuja and even spent a lot on adverts like the "Mama fish cost" that grew on us.

They had the cash to hit the ground running with facilities built with their own capital and when Nigerians felt gratified with their service they kept subscribing for more. You didn't make a call in 2004 and all you heard was empty silence. There was something to pay for in the first place!

Econet then came along and followed by glo and the rest is what we have today.

Electricity much like Telecommunication are end products , there has to be facilities in place to ensure a satisfactory service. Sad enough we don't have a choice than to deal with the poor service due to lack of competition in the power industry.

Your 10k per month for PHCN cannot solve the power issues bro. We have a lot of underlining factors here. Let me list a few

1. Generator Cabal
2. Transformer and Cable Vandals
3. Remote villages yet to get on the grid.

Etc...

Nigeria is too big for one or two companies to run the power affairs , we need more investors. We need competition like it obtains in other parts of the world.

Lastly , aside competition, hydropower generating plants are becoming outdated as a source of power generation. There are other sources of power that Nigeria as a country is ignoring and ignoring to its own detriment. I'm not gonna start listing them here but loose that mentality that we have to pay and continue to pay till it gets better.

Everything for this country na offence now. You beat your dog for stealing meat is an offence in Nigeria. You kill your chicken for stew and rice is also an offence in Nigeria. Good for the NEPA official. Why bring bill when no light or service provided. If I were the man I will also sue NEPA for fraud. Why charge me for what I did not consume. Yes i understand. But is it until we sell our houses and cars to pay electricity bills that things will improve? Because the outrageous sum they're collecting for not providing electricity should be able to cover up for the few that don't pay. Besides i think there's enough government money hidden in some people's pockets, so very few persons not paying is not an excuse for poor power supply.
