I want to buy this car as a utility run around vehicle, especially at night and i need a car i can give someone to go run errands for me. The car is cheap and i saw a very clean one. I know the older golf 2 were very rugged but i don't know much about the newer models.

This car is the opposite of Golf 2. You already know golf 2 is one of the most economical and rugged cars in the world.

its ok to get but you have to be careful with tempering with the electrical parts.
it is still rugged, have pretty chilling AC.
Above all, no matter how rugged you think a car is, it still needs care.
