BlackBaron:Goverments all across Africa must realise that these animals are in this for the long hurl and quit pretending that groups like al shabaab an boko haram will go away by themselves!!! These animals view Africa as easy prey and wont give up until they are overwhelmed by superior force. Methinks the AU should pass a law making it compulsory for African countries to spend atleast 5percent of their GDPs on re-arming and re-equiping their militaries to defend the continent against these wild animals. This is not "gloating" This is REAL. We must quit hoping to fight murderous religious extremist on the cheap |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by ActivateKruger: 1:16pm On Feb 06, 2017 |
bendeniceguy: Make it compulsory? There's no law under the sun that can make such things compulsory unless the AU could magically fund it to all its members. |

bendeniceguy: 5% of GDP? Yeah, do that and the World Bank/IMF and every single NGO under the sun will throw a shit-fit that will make the medias reaction to Trump look like a love letter. But we digress. Less yadda-yadda More pictures. 4 Likes

bendeniceguy: Jesus Christ!! Man, why are you sharing this video here now, it is not nice at all, it is morally insensitive. You are helping these terrorists distribute their propaganda, which is completely wrong. This is not a terrorist propaganda thread, it is an African Militaries photos and video thread. I'm not pleased with you at all, everyone who wants to see the video knows we're to get it from. We do not share terrorist propaganda videos here. Please don't post terrorist content in this thread. >: 4 Likes |

ActivateKruger:There is a first time for everything. These murderers are already established in North, West, East and Central Africa and are gradually pushing Southwards!! Hoping they go away or fighting them on the cheap is not an option. If the AU cant see or smell the imminent danger of having these a..holes overrunning the continent at this rate, then they (AU) should be disbanded and their responsibilities handed over to to the UN or even better still, to Mr Trump. This is a clear and present danger they cant ignore. Most African countries are too vulnerable to allow these murderous extremists dig-in or fester on for much longer without the AU trying at the very least to rally everybody to the fight. A word they say is enough for the wise. |

bendeniceguy: Terror and all kinds of insurgencies are intelligence not military issues. When a country has homegrown terrorism issues it simply means they have no solid intelligence institutions. As for Al-Shabab, they can't go beyond Kenya. Southern Africa is a different region. Islam is rare and state intelligence is on a different level. |

Henry24o:My brother Henry, i am not in the business of sharing terrorists propaganda videos or such things. i only posted a link for those who might want to see what these low-lives are capable of. Its your prerogative to click the link or not. I understand you though and will not post something like this anymore. All the same, i am pissed that these killers are capable of doing this to an African army. I am mad and you should be too for what they did to those soldiers |

ActivateKruger:Dont be too sure about your " Southern Africa is a different region" thing. There are thousands of indigenous, blond haired West Europeans fighting for ISIS and Al QAEDA. Rainbow colored South Africa is in my estimation more vulnerable to contamination than say Zimbabwe. Maybe you should chew on that for a while. |

bendeniceguy: I'm completely sick to my stomach. I had seen the video earlier on, and i could not believe what i saw. These terrorists are taking our militaries seriously, yet it seems we are still engaging them with kids gloves. I'm not happy with the KDF, faced with overwhelming force they could have retreated a long while ago. The base seemed well fortified but it completely fell. 2 APCs and no defence. Those terrorists moved across open fields for atleast 200 meters, the Oto melera's should have been employed. I don't understand why, faced with 14.5mm's, the Kenyans still hull around with 7.62 MG's. The Nigerian army learnt this the hard way. Faced with superior arms, you also have to be prepared to respond with equally superior firepower. The guys on guard duty were basically sleeping. 2 guys for 2 hour shifts, should have kept everyone alert. African armies need to go back and critically look at the trainings received to deal with asymmetrical contacts with the enemy such as these. Why did the KDF not retreat, there was not a proper response, the big guns weren't firing, the APCs, weren't firing, the Oto melera wasn't also firing, so why not basically flee, re-group and counter-attack. At least, that's what the video showed. |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Henry24o: 2:59pm On Feb 06, 2017 |
bendeniceguy: We also need to invest and continue to invest in training our troops. Just buying equipment and re-arming would make us look like Saudi-Arabia or most of the oil rich countries in the gulf. We also need to properly vet our recruits, "why do they actually want to join the military?". I'm not saying we shouldn't buy equipment, however, just buying equipment would not solve the problem. On spending, I've always opined that the big countries should be spending nothing less than $4.5 billion on defence. I'll also recommend an Anti-graft agency follow the money every step of the way. I agree, we have to stop thinking that we can defeat these terrorists on the cheap. If a terrorist fires our troops with a 7.62mm, let us respond with a 125mm. That's how wars are won. |

darknetcom: Everybody is entitled to his own opinion. I'm not bothered about what people say, only if they are practical responses. This is why I've always advocated that we build our defence industry, so that we can reduce our dependence on foreign arms. I'm glad that we are now moving forward. Eastern Europeans, Westerners and Islamist backers in the muslim world. 1 Like |

Henry24o: Read the link in the story, the attack was the result of poor inteligence. The KDF guys who got wiped out were from a unit replacing another... the unit leaving didnt full them in on the situation properly. Henry24o: Actually, it was poorly fortified. Long lines of defense, with isolated firing positions. If you watch the video you cant those faggits from AS breaching parts of the perimiter, isolating pockets of resistance and then bringing heavy weapons on technicals to silence them. Shorter lines, bigger fortifications and no indirect fire support. Henry24o: Problem is that they just didnt use their APC's at all. They didnt laager them properly Look at Pics of NATO bases in Afghanistan, they keep their APC's around the outskirts of their bases and there are little ramps all over the place on the inside of the defences... its so vehicles can drive up the ramp, fire, drive off the ramp and move to a new ramp to repeat the process. Very important. Henry24o: 7.62 is very effective at those sorts of ranges. 7.62 rate of fire > 12.5 rate of fire When you can sling more lead, you have fire-superiority. When you have fire superiority you can supress your enemy When your enemy is supressed he is fixed When he is fixed, you can destroy him Also, I cant at least 2 Panhard AML's... those 90mm would have wrecked AS if used properly. Mortars would have won that battle Henry24o: I think its silly to talk about duty rosters when we have no idea how many men they had inside the base. Henry24o: Mortars, most African nations dont use enough mortars, or lager their vehicles (even the Germans did that in WW2 - see: Hedgehog formation) I dont want to be arrogant, but y'all need to study what the old SADF did during the war in Angola. The major battles are irrelevant, a set-peice battle is a set-peice battle. But the practices employed by our mechanised formations when operating in Angola... those are perfect for Africa. 5 Likes |

Henry24o:the video posted was of the eladde attack, the recent attack in Kulbiyow hasn't being released.i have in the past talked about that there was nonexistence poor perimeter wall encircle the outpost, which could have protected the defenders from the SVIED and direct fire from alshabaab attacks. taliban tried similar tactics in afganistan with few causalities and even much powerful SVIED .what kenyans have continued doing is digging foxholes and then surround the hesco barriers ,this foxholes turn defending positions are spread all over the compound.most of tis fighting positions have a DShk or FN MAG 7.62 x 54mm,when alshabaab this outpost they concentrate their ZU-23 on this fragmented foxhole turn fighting positions.pinning the defenders on this position as the advance.any defender trying to leave is cut down with those ZU-23,most of the APC's ,mortar tubes Panhard AML are in the open (if you trying to reach them your cut-down).if any one of you eventually reaches those APC's or Panhard AML the attackers with small arms are already within range and surrounded the outpost kenya need to improve its outpost hesco outpost wall(increase its height ,so that nobody outside can see inside),then acquire ZU-23,ZPU-2/4 (which should be located around the corners of the outpost

check out this china army outpost mali, even the APC has a ramp to enable it to fire from within the outpost, raised observation towers to spot the enemy as he is coming .every platoon leader has a hand held radio to ease intercommunication within the outpost (also helping in directing mortar and light howitzers indirect fire ) even if you attack this out post with ZU-23mm anti-aircraft gun it will be useless

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 4:23pm On Feb 06, 2017 |
ZU-23 has an effective range of 2.5 km,the effective range of a G-3 is 500 metres. using the darkness the attacker have sneeked closer to the outpost(within the effective range of their ZU-23) most of your mortat and light howitzer are in the open, the only cover you can get on those foxholes defending positions(where now the enemy is directing his ZU-23's and B-10 recoilless rifles( effective range 4,500 m) |

Patchesagain:shouldn't it be basic to fill-in on the situation in your sector before departing. This is standard SOP. Although, irrespective of that, the base was significantly well defended. It's not like the new unit is a completely light infantry unit. Patchesagain: I beg to differ, the base was significantly well defended irrespective of whatever loose ends present. Patchesagain:This, i completely agree with. I've also seen photos of MINUSMA, African troops do this with technicals. The fact that neither the APCs or Panhard AMLs were used was a significant let down. Pin down the insurgents and then reply with the 105mm. The KDF had serious firepower. Patchesagain: I'm not saying the 7.62mm is effective, all i'm saying is, KDF troops were pinned down by 23mm's and recoiless guns. What they needed was to loose the pressure on them with heavier rounds with longer ranges. Tanks, 30mm, 23mm, 14.5mm and the 90mm from the Panhard( which for whatever reasons wasn't used). The idea of mounting punny guns on your APCs is deadly, like the Nigerian army found out against BHT. Bigger guns were needed, offcourse with better coordination. Offcourse friendly troops were disorientated by the VBIED, they needed just a tiny bit of freedom to respond. AS pinned KDF with the 14.5mm and Recoiless gun, while the unleased small arms fire. They couldn't move. Patchesagain:Dude, there was something wrong with the sentry watchers, this is what i think. Anyway, i have no right to pass out judgment from the comfort of my apartment. Patchesagain: I have no idea of border war, I won't comment on a topic I'm not conversant with. |

Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Henry24o: 5:43pm On Feb 06, 2017 |
africaken254: I agree with all you posted, but in the mean time, what about digging trenches? As well as the Hesco walls, the KDF has to look into digging trenches to slow down the attackers. Also digging trenches for the AML-90s, this would limit the risk of hitting the IFVs, while providing good line of sight to hit the attackers. |
