I wonder why its hard for this country to build a power plant that can generate at least 1000MW instead of littering all these small tins everywhere. 1000MW power plant in each region could solve our power problems

cause its fvcking expensive

This would take at least 2 years and huge capital investment.

Money the government is saying it cannot afford currently. Power generation is not road construction. The rot is quite obvious because we haven't substantially invested in power in the last 20 years. This is the kind of corruption that people are fighting against.

Click 'like' if you think this would really change the state of power in this country and 'share' if you think it will.

Nigerian power sector cannot witness any change Until the foolish companies realize that there is a huge difference between power generation, transmission and distribution

We must understand that even if we generate 1trillion megawatts.... Once the distribution is zero, then the generated power will be a wadte ....

But how can we change all this when a lawyer is the minister of power; where the hell are industrial physicist, electrical engineers?

Failed nation

Omo u dey reason like me...6 of these in the 6 geo-political regions would amount to 6000 megawatts, then add like 2 of these 250 megawatts to each of them as back up...

problem solved!

I am still bemused that in 2017 we don't have a regular power supply despite the advancement in technology and the abundance of resources at our disposal. Its a shame that at a time when countries with uninterrupted power supply are making new ways to utilize nuclear energy, deep sea windmill and underwater current to enhance their productivity, Nigeria is still struggling with hydro-power generation embarassed. The sun in the north is enough to cater for the whole Nigeria if we invest in solar energy. The Hilly topography is the middle-belt with fast and unending wind will make a good source for a windmill farm. China as we speak still make use of coal energy to generate power and there is abundance of coal in Enugu that can do that. While the mass of water from the south-west to south-south will be more than enough to feed the nation. But all na lie, the poo people selling fuel and generators will never allow that. The poo politicians that only think about their pockets will never raise a bill talkless of supporting it. The poo government with no sense will travel and sign yeye contract instead of asking their counterpart to help them with best hands and privatize the poo out of this poo generating companies. They never seem to learn whenever they travel from countries like UAE, Saudi, Qatar etc that has no expert in any field but spent billions to bring them in and create a fantastic environment that even the western world marvel at. Pooo govt, angry pooo politician angry what a "C*ntry" angry called Nigeria angry
the only technology advancing in nigeria is corruption, the other day a senator even moved a motion for legalizing corruption, how stu.pid can someone who wants to be addressed as "your honourable" be .certain "fulani herdsmen" going on a steady silent progrom nationwide for years yet not one has been ever brought to book, the CNCC,a chinese govt owned construction company is being awarded contracts here and there yet we have several universities of technology and polytechnics which spun out graduates day in day out yet we cant construct our roads and railways ourselves, we cant manufacture common ear piece or phone chargers,we have to pay the whiteman...very soon ghana if we cont like this, to get the job done for everything we need....why?because the people up there dont care where nigeria would be 2mrw,they are only concerned about their family and loyalists and how to keep power within while watching the rest tear themselves apart

The 252 megawatt-capacity GbarainUbie power plant being built by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) would be ready for commissioning by the end of first quarter 2017, the Managing Director of NDPHC, Mr. Chiedu Ugbo has said.

Ugbo said recently during the inauguration of the presidential initiative on solar homes systems in Wuna Village Gwagwalad Abuja, that the completion and commissioning of the plant would add additional 252MW to Nigeria’s generation capacity.

Work on the plant which has Rockson Engineering as its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor has stalled for a long time now.

But speaking to the Vice President, YemiOsinbajo at the event, Ugbo said: “Your Excellency, strategies are also in place to complete the second unit of the Gbarain power station in Bayelsa State before the end of this quarter. This will add 225MW to the grid.”

“In November last year, the Honorable Minister of Power, Works and Housing, commissioned the 12-circuit Ikot-Ekpene 330KVA Switching Station and the associated transmissions lines with a total of about 285KM completed by our new management. These projects are now assisting in evacuating into the national grid, electricity hitherto stranded in the Eastern Delta,” he added.
Also, arrangements for gas supply to the plant may have been taken care of with a pledge by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) that it would solely supply gas to the 252MW gas turbine power station.

In a 2015 paper titled: ‘Shell in Nigeria: Unlocking Nigeria Energy Potential,’ SPDC stated that it would single-handedly supply gas to the 225MW Gbarain power plant.
It said in the paper: “Shell will be the sole supplier of a new 225 megawatts power plant being built in Gbarain by the Federal Government under the Nigerian Independent Power Project.
“In 2010, SPDC began producing from the Gbarain-Ubie integrated oil and gas plant in Bayelsa State. Gbarain is designed to process one billion standard cubic feet of gas per day. In addition to supplying gas to the Nigerian Liquefied Gas (NLNG), Shell also supplies gas to the Bayelsa State power plant at Imiring.”

The paper further indicated that the GbarainUbie plant was helping SPDC reduce flaring of associated gas from nearby gas fields, thus contributing to its wider flares reduction programme.
“The GbairanUbie project has created a legacy of skills and capacity in complex gas projects, which will be vital in meeting Nigeria’s electricity supply challenges in the years ahead,” it added in the paper.

Imagine commissioning the project without compensating the owners of the land being acquired for the construction; citing the case of ATAN IkOT OKORO power station in IKOT EKPENE, Akwa Ibom State.

Biggest scam.. They have been saying this since 2008. These turbines were bought in 2005. Infact a serious govt would not take more than 1year to commission those GE Frame 9E gas turbines but because of kwarraption and unseriousness, they have been playing politics with it and also siphoning money via variation. Lemme just keep kwayet and watch the magic they would do to complete the commisioning in 3rd quarter.

waste of resources still FG building gas plant when ND no gree the pipeline rest let them look for other sources of generation (Coal, Hydro and Nuclear) instead of this.
