My problem now is securing the supervisor. I've been getting series of sorry our lab is currently full and it's really discouraging. I know my emails to them are good enough for them to make positive decision to my favour. I even attach my CV, transcript, GRE score and sometimes work reference. What can I do differently to secure a research supervisor?

Congrats. I pray God will favour you to move to next stage.

Your program style is cunny. Supervisor after conditional admission and not before? Guess they like to postpone the supervisor struggle and gather more application fee.

Panic not!

Did you attach your SOP/SoRI in the email? Did you craft the mail to each faculty research profile? Check the email well and keep praying for favour.

It will end with praises. cool

Ask program coordinator for best semester to resume. I think you don't need extension if your due entry date is close to the recommended semester. Anyways, I am a learner in the que you ask. Gurus will have better opinion.

Thanks bro

Congratulation! You should apply to defer your admission to the next start date.Your TRV will give you a duration and time frame for you to enter canada. Depending on your program length, it could be valid for the duration of your program or less. You only need to defer your admission. I believe your TRV will be lengthy enough to allow you enter canada for the next start date of your program.

CIC would definitely be aware that you can't resume for winter 2017 again. So they will issue a TRV that will cover next possible start date. Check the visa foil on your passport and you will find out the time frame you have to enter canada.

All the best to you and congrats again.

My trv is valid for my program length, which is two years.... Thanks for the reply

Thanks @osemigho for the encouragement. I didn't even expect to get this far with all the fears been expressed as to how competitive and highly rated McGill university is. I just thank God and I still believe that nothing is impossible for those that believe. I will keep firing the mails to the faculty members and I know one of them will pull through. The school also said they have made our profiles available to all prospective supervisors so if God wills what I'm seeking for may find me out. I also write every mail to suit the research profile of each different faculty member based on their research topic. It takes so much time and effort to craft one mail but seconds for the prof to reply send a negative reply. That's what is just frustrating me.

The body of the mails I'm sending is my SOP so I don't bother attaching it again. Good thing is they are replying me faster now because I've included the deadline date in my mail to them so the process have gained some speed for me.

I hope to secure thos admission on time so I can start trv application in good time. I don't want to miss the Sept 1st resumption date.

How about your admission search, any feedback yet? You spend more time on d EE thread dan here... grin. No leave us run on we r in dis together!

It will surely end in praise!

I think you are spot on with your analysis of masters admissions in Canada. Very strong applications are attended to before others.
One of the schools I applied to McGill University sent me a mail two days back. Deadline for submission of all applications for my program was feb 1st. They said I met all d requirements for admission into the program and have been admitted only conditionally. That I secure a research supervisor before may 17th and get back to her to confirm my admission.

Thanks for the feedback.
This is a rather unique case to me - where an applicant is conditionally admitted to a program and required to find a supervisor. If I may ask, which program did you apply for?

Anyway, with regards to your inquiry, unfortunately I have to tell you that there is no silver bullet. People will give you various bullet point guidelines that you should follow, but most of those are hardly relevant. Supervisors are humans like everyone else and so naturally they are all receptive to very different things. Some might prefer a formal detailed message with all your credentials attached, some might prefer a short message and rather you don't attach any files. In this regard, the only advice I can give you is to look at their various profiles and get a sense of their personalities, also check if they provide any guidelines to contacting them.

In another regard, I can tell you what would delight a professor about a potential applicant (this actually applies to general self-marketing and not just graduate school).
The professor "doesn't" care what you have achieved or what grades you've gotten (note: doesn't in quotes). They, like everyone else are naturally self-centered and care about themselves. So rather than message them with all your credentials, telling them what you have achieved and how working with them will help in your development, show them instead how much interest you have in their work, what you can do for them, why they need you (rather than another student), how you can help advance their research, why they should invest their research dollars on you, and if you have to mention your credentials, it should be in regards to how it can positively impact their research.

If you're wondering, the best way to do this is to read up on their recent publication(s), try to fully understand it, then send them a detailed and enthusiastic mail about it. It could be constructively praising or criticizing (preferably both) their paper, or even better suggestion some ways to advance the research. Even simply asking very intellectual questions can be a plus.

Note, this would be walking a thin line, so you should try to really get the gist of the paper. As much as this is an opportunity to prove yourself worthy, it's also an avenue to display tomfoolery. If you ask unreasonable questions or make unreasonable observations you might just give them a good reason to not accept you.

Good then. You only need to defer your admission and travel to canada when the time comes. No need to extend your TRV in nigeria. You can do that when you get to canada if need be.

Please I have a question @folaroyal, michv, thesoj, osemigbo and all other gurus in the house, my proposed programme has already started since January 9, 2017 and I can't meet up with the winter admission again according to the school. How do I solve this issue? Should I apply to defer my admission and apply for study permit extension here in Nigeria?
Please, what's the best way to tackle this issue? Thanks

Which all TRV hopefuls success
Nice one and many congrats!
I am not certain that Concordia U will have any intake for your program until fall...
It really depends on what you want though!
1. If you want to enter immediately... You only need to tell them at the PoE that your approval was delayed, hence you can't start until May or June but you need to process your deferral and conclude payments/enrollment.... They can't turn you back! But what will you be doing till fall?

2. If you choose to stay.... Process your deferral from Nigeria and resume at the next intake period. ...
In any case, you will extend your permit as at when required inside Canada.... If you need to!

Bro... The main of the iss is that you have your TRV!!!... Pick your permit at the PoE when you desire.... Anytime within the 'Must enter by date'
Best wishes.

I applied for masters thesis biochemistry. The mail I received was from the department's graduate coordinator. So she was like until I secure supervisor before the deadline only then can they recommend me to the postgraduate office for me to get admission. So at this stage now it's get supervisor and get admission it's that simple.

I've applied several techniques but I'd equally give yours a trial. Thing is one can't tell a professors personality simply by viewing their profile page. I've also read a lot of their publications just for me to write them and get the usual my lab is full. I will just keep at it. Thanks for the tips man

Also, I think your email should briefly talk about your proposed research topic, in one stand alone paragraph, while you attach SOP to the email. That will make the email less overwhleming to read and less strenuous for you to compose.

Did you apply to other schools?

Good Evening fellow forumites, I have a very big issue i will like you guys to help me thrash honestly and also help me with suggestions on the best possible actions to take on this issue.

Specifically July, 2016 , i applied for PGC programme in Canada, my applications were filled with many complications and i had already given up hope considering the fact that , it's PGC and there are many commas in my application based on self evaluation. I kept checking my application status online after several unsuccessful attempt to link the application online. Lest i forget, i used an Agent called GVC(Genuine Visa Consult), Please beware of these guys, they are just after your money and they charge crazy fees for packaging rubbish and have also put me on a knife edge. Now this evening i received a mail from CIC, with some damning accusations and implication on my application. From their statement i stand a chance of been ban for 5 years from entering Canada if found guilty. THIS IS THE MAIL BELOW;

I have reviewed your application and documents you submitted in its support. Subsection 11(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act provides that a foreign national must, before entering Canada, apply to an officer for a visa or any other document required by the Regulations. The visa or document shall be issued if, following an examination, the officer is satisfied that the foreign national is not inadmissible and meets the requirements of this Act.

I have concerns that you have not fulfilled the requirement put upon you by section 16(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, which states:

16(1) A person who makes an application must answer truthfully all questions put to them for the purpose of the examination and must produce a visa and all relevant evidence and documents that the officer reasonably requires.

I have concerns that you misrepresented your (or your financial sponsor’s) current employment and the source of funding for your proposed studies in Canada. You did so both in your answers on the application form and through the submission of fraudulent employment and/or financial sponsorship documents.

Furthermore, pursuant to paragraph 10(2)(c.1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations:

10(2) The application shall, unless otherwise provided by these Regulations

(c.1) if the applicant is represented in connection with the application, include the name, postal address and telephone number, and fax number and electronic mail address, if any, of any person or entity — or a person acting on its behalf — representing the applicant

Based on your submissions, I have concerns that you have omitted to declare that you used a compensated representative to facilitate the submission of your application. Your application contains evidence that it was facilitated by the same person or entity as many other applications received by this office. Based on our research this is a compensated representative. I therefore have concerns that you misrepresented this information either through omission or through failing to indicate that the representative was compensated.

Please note that if it is found that you have engaged in misrepresentation in submitting your application, you may be found to be inadmissible under section 40(1)(a) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. A finding of such inadmissibility would render you inadmissible to Canada for a period of five years according to section 40(2)(a):

40(1) A permanent resident or a foreign national is inadmissible for misrepresentation (a) for directly or indirectly misrepresenting or withholding material facts relating to a relevant matter that induces or could induce an error in the administration of this Act

40(2) The following provisions govern subsection (1): (a) the permanent resident or the foreign national continues to be inadmissible for misrepresentation for a period of five years following, in the case of a determination outside Canada, a final determination of inadmissibility under subsection (1) or, in the case of determination in Canada, the date the removal order is enforced.

I would like to give you an opportunity to respond to this information. I will afford you fifteen (15) days from the date of this letter to make any representations in this regard. Please use the address noted on this letter for all correspondence, and clearly indicate your file number. If you do not respond to this request within the time outlined above, your application will be assessed based on the information available, which will likely result in a refusal.

Thank you for the interest you have shown in Canada.

Regards,

The above Mail was what greeted me this evening, Please who have experienced or encountered such before and How did you respond to the queries, i don't mind a visa refusal but my fear is the 5 year Ban.

Gurus in the house please your advise and counsel will be highly appreciated. Although am also going to forward this to the agent but i wil like to have an outside opinion first.

Thanks

Been following this thread from part one...wasn't an easy one though. Currently am on a quest for m.eng mechanical engineering and I just got three references from my past lecturers while working out the transcript process...
Problems are....
1) I finished nysc since 2013 and since then I've been a teacher. I found out that my c.v needs to look good. In this view, i got my late dad's company (folded) letterheads so as to package my employment history....I need help on how to package them well

2) I have a copy of my transcript but the cover page was addressed to a completely different school. Can I send to my proposed schools, the same transcript (when I recreate the cover page and sign on it- the signature is easy and I can nail it)

3) should i go ahead and pay an outrageous amount for two fresh transcripts and discard the option in question 2?

Thanks house.mi would really appreciate your response .

I also suggest a Whatsapp group be created....at least form we the prospective and hopefuls.
