I am experienced poultry farmer in Lagos and I have access to a poultry Farm that has all needed facilities to succeed in the business.

These facilities includes
1. Built pen house that can accommodate 8000 birds capacity
2. Battery cage that is ready to take 4000 birds at a go
3. Brooding house
4. Borehole
5. Water storage tank
6. Store
7. Staff house
8. Tight security
9. Fenced

All needed is fund to buy the birds, stock it and in few months we start raking profit.

All the facilities mentioned above is what makes poultry business looks difficult for many because they are capital items that requires huge amount of fund. But all these are readily available.

Any angel Investor that is interested to take the opportunity should pls contact me to work out the business and to send a copy of the business plan to him or her. +2348065738438 or darekenny@yahoo.com

The market for poultry products such as eggs & chickens are readily available in Nigeria even now that government have ban the importation of poultry products and I have a good number of customers base for the product.

Considering the population of over 170 million Nigeria, we only produce 30% of our poultry needs (eggs & chickens) and the remaining 70% is opportunity waiting for people to tap into.

The business is
* Lucrative
* Highly profitable
* And the risk is low with the help of insurance cover.

Presently the available battery cage in the farm will conveniently house 4000 birds.

So, if we are to work on 4000 birds capacity farm, we will need minimum amount of N7,748,400

The cost include
* Day old Pullet
*Feeds From week 1 to week 24 (Starter mash, Grower mash & Layer mash feeds)
* Drugs
* Staff salary for 6 month
* Insurance

These cost are the cost to be incure before birds will start laying and sustaining themselves through the eggs produced.
The cost will run through week 1 to week 24.
At week 30 we should break even.

At full production, we will be having N3,240,000 as monthly revenue and N1,050,000 as our monthly gross profit

At weeks 70 the birds will be sold and proceed used to stuck new ones and circle continue.

Couple of things struck me from your post

1. Those cages in the picture does not provide the ergonomics required for animal for maximum production. Give them the best, they will give you their best

2. Why do you want to buy day-old pullet? to satrt rearing from day 1? The facility painted here does not has the capacity to handle day old pullet. You will lose more than half of your birds unless you are highly experienced in this and you have real facility to handle it

3. It is not cost effective and too risky to start with day old pullet. Better buy at point of lay. less risk, less feeding, and sales come in soon

4. How did you calculate to ariive at your figure? 3.2M, 7.75M in relations to week30?

You need to do more homework....not just on paper.

Good luck

How come the feeds are not produced in-house and you think this is cost effective? You need to maximize the manpower you are paying for every month.

How much is your net income and the profit margin per set?

Thank you for your point

1.The cage in the picture is not the 4000 unit cage I'm talking about by the way the cage I'm talking about is currently empty. The one shows in the picture is the one I'm currently using for my 500 capacity birds.

2. The risk associated with point of lay is more than day old, but many don't know, even when you think you collected it form so called trusted hand. Majority of point of lay bird don't produce well, people selling it cut corners, drugs and vaccination needed to be given at different growing stages are either poorly given or some not given at all. Remember they also want to maximize their cost to make more gain and they will not tell you all this. When you will know is when your birds are not producing well because the effect of all this is not immediately, u will only know from the time they start to lay, at that time it will be too late and only option for u is to sell them off.

I'm talking from experience and my neighbor farm that collectd 5000 point of lay, she later sold all the birds when they fail to lay uptimaly

But when you raise from day old by yourself you are sure of what you give them and u will not want to cut corners because you know the implications

To your number 4 question, do you know the current prices of feed in the market? May be is been long you buy one, but let me give you the idea of current prices
Chick mash =3900 per 25kg bag
Grower mash =3200 per 25kg bag
Layer mash =3650 per 25kg bag
Why do you think they are selling crate of egg for over 1k in the market? Is because of rise in feed

Hope I answered some of your questions

Yes it's good to produce feed by ourselves to maximize cost but that will add so much to our cost because setting up the machine that will mill feed for 4000 birds per day is not small million of naira
So, why not go for ready made feed at a start and think of feed mill in the future
And it's not that we will not make good gain even when we buy ready made feed

Remember, poultry is business of number, the more the number of birds the better the profit

You did justice to the majority of my concerns. I particularly like your answer and approach to the second question even though I still believe the risk is high.

There was no answer to question 4. I am not questioning your figure. I only wanted to draw your mind to the fact that you need to provide detailed calculation on how to arrive at that cost....and not just "dish" out figures

Good luck!!
