Apple most of the time become the first company to come out with the tech trend just like the case of them launching the first fingerprint reader in a smartphone. One other thing that they are known for is to patent a tech before releasing it and they most of the time do release it. If Apple follows through on one of its patents, the next iPhone might not have a dedicated sensor to read fingerprints.
