otezu5: Troost Ekong played very well in his first few matches in Belgium but Gent's coach is very unpredictable. Even with strong performances and clean sheets, he still found himself on the bench. Troost-Ekong will still play in the league, the gent coach always changes his starting 11. 1 Like |

Gernot Rohr Expresses Concern Over Sporting Gijon Defender Elderson Echiejile The left full back spot of the Super Eagles is still a thing of worry for coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr, who is keen on having more options before the start of the AFCON 2019 and resumption of World Cup 2018 qualifiers. Rohr in a chat with NFF.com lamented the struggles of regular left full back Elderson Echiejile at his club Monaco before his loan move to Spanish side Sporting Gijon on transfer deadline day. The Franco-German coach of the Super Eagles is worried that he might not be match fit when the Eagles regroup for competitive games later in the year. His worry can also be extended to the fact that Echiejile deputy Kingsley Madu is also struggling to nail down a permanent shirt at Belgian side Zulte-Waregem. Madu has been sparingly used by the Belgian league leaders in league games, although he has featured in almost all of their games in the domestic cup. http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/02/16/gernot-rohr-expresses-concern-over-sporting-gijon-defender-elderson-echiejile/ |

FIFA World Ranking: NFF Targets Top 10 Before Russia 2018 Richard Jideaka, Abuja: The Nigeria Football Federation is doing everything possible to ensure that Super Eagles are ranked among the top 10 teams in the FIFA World Ranking before the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, General Secretary of NFF, Sanusi Mohammed has said, Completesportsnigeria.com reports. Reacting to the Super Eagles' recent leap to 41st position in FIFA World Ranking, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said the target was to be number one in Africa and make the top 10 in the world before the 2018 World Cup in Russia "We are on the right track to being the best in Africa and may be number five in the world where we were after the 1994 World Cup in the USA, but we would be contented if we make the top 10. It is not an easy target, but I think we are capable," Sanusi told Completesportsnigeria.com. "To realize our target, aside the World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifying games which the Super Eagles will be involved in, the federation will ensure that the team play top quality friendly games to improve on the ranking." Sanusi also expressed optimism that the Super Eagles have the wherewithal to progress ahead of Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia from their World Cup qualifiers Group B, adding that his optimism stemmed from the manner the new coach Gernot Rohr has been handling the Eagles' games. "We don't fear Cameroon because they won the AFCON. We believe they are not better thnn us, and come August, we shall prove to them that we are more determined to go the World Cup after missing the AFCON in Gabon. We have to beat them in Uyo first and get a result in their home few days later," Sanusi stated. www.completesportsnigeria.com/fifa-world-ranking-nff-targets-top-10-russia-2018/#jKFs01RMi8mOO0TY.99 |

Former Arsenal Star: Chamberlain Deserves More Playing Time Than Iwobi By James Agberebi: Former Arsenal and Scotland international Charlie Nicholas says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be ahead of Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi for a starting place in the London club. Both Iwobi and Oxlade-Chamberlain were in action on Wednesday night as Arsenal capitulated 5-1 to Bayern Munich in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg clash at the Allianz Arena. Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled to hold down a first-team spot and has started just 12 Premier League games this term – 16 across all competitions, while Iwobi has been a regular feature. The England international has entered the final 18 months of his Arsenal contract and has previously admitted he would consider his future in the summer. Nicholas, a League Cup winner with Arsenal in 1987 who was Arsenal Player of the year in 1984, believes Oxlade-Chamberlain's inability to dispace Iwobi means the England midfielder's time is up at Arsenal. "I think it's time for him to move on," Nicholas told Sky Sports. "He's got bundles of ability, pace and strength, although he could do with finishing a bit better. "He should be playing more than [Alex] Iwobi and the fact that he isn't in ahead of him means I don't think he has a promising future at Arsenal." Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2011 for an initial £12million and has won two FA Cups during his six years at the club. www.completesportsnigeria.com/former-arsenal-star-chamberlain-deserves-playing-time-iwobi/#Q74BC5SRHOpd0gss.99 |

tbaba1234:I don't think he played well.I remember him scoring an own goal and for him to have been left out, then he need to raise his game. There is need for us to lay more emphasis on Super Eagles players especially d regulars ones and how they are faring in their respective clubs coz it w give us an insight to their performances but we always talk on Iheanacho progress, forgetting that we still have some super regular players finding it difficult to break into their team but smaller team. There should not be sentiment in analyzing our players coz it w not bring thorough picture of what is happening to their development. In respect to Ekong case,d coach was not biased in his judgment and we must face it.Do u know d meaning of excluding a player from European competition,it means d player is not up to d tasks. Pls go and watch Ekong critically, then u w notice that he still has a long way to go when it comes to CB.Pls watch Algeria match again and u w understand what am saying,he need to raise his game. Truly he had a good Olympics outing which really boost his profile and pave way for him in d national team but i can tell u if Rohr discovered a player in d mould of Leon then Ekong position w be seriously threatened. Remember we had series of discussions here especially with thegoodjoe on Iheanacho being frozen out of d team by Pep,initially i thought Gabriel wasn't better but to be candid d guy is better and suit Pep's philosophy. Also Mikel under Conte,i thought Conte was unfair to Mikel but when i looked at Chelsea and Conte philosophy,i realised no way for Mikel, not only him but player like Fabregas,Oscar,Terry,Ivanovic coz his formation or philosophy is for all round player who move around d pitch and covered a lot of ground, this paved way for players like Pedro,Moses,Luiz,Matic. There is need for us to be fair to this coaches coz they have their styles and if u cannot fit in,then u have to raise your game or go elsewhere for first team playing. Troost should raise his game especially on his footwork, interception, reading of d game and his confidence, though his physical presence is a plus, good at aerial and also have d power but generally he needs to braise up coz as a Super Eagle CB and finding it difficult to break into a team like Gent is not ideal but let say a bigger teams like Manchester city or Chelsea is understandable. |

tbaba1234:Yes friendly game but is part of it coz friendly match is to build up a team. Nigeria is playing Senegal in a friendly and some players w use it to make a statement and enter d main team against Cameroon. Am not condemning Ekong as a player but as a Super Eagle CB he must raise up his game which w be good for him and d country coz playing regularly is very essential. He had a nice outing in Olympics coz he had a remarkable playing time with his Norwegian club. |

I hope he gets the job. That would make our qualification easier....much easier. First of all, any coach who can transform that Cameroun team into an AFCON winning team within a space of a few months is definitely a technically astute coach. And I wouldn't wanna face him. Secondly, if Cameroun would start hiring a new coach a few months before they face us, that would give up a big competitive edge. O pari otezu5: |

Icon79:So you think that having carried the Lions to the peak, Cameroun would allow Hugo Broos to go? No indication is given in the report as to any issue between the football federation of cameroun and Broos. Moreover would cameroun want to jeopardise for all time their shaky grip on the world cup qualifiers by letting Broos go when he has proved that he can perform magic? I doubt it. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by AIG07: 8:59pm On Feb 16, 2017 |
Icon79:I hope he(H. Broos) stay on the job. I do believe that preparation is 'a' step to success n A known enemy is far better than unknown friend. A reshuffling of the the camerounians coaching crew 'may' be our undoing as complacency will set in and will affect our preparation. Remember the new coach will bring new, tactics, approach and players who will want to impress their fans...thereby making them hardnut to crack. We should not be carried away with what happened wit the Algerians-this is Cameroun. 1 Like |

tbaba1234: This is troubling to me very troubling. We cannot escape from the fact that top teams want top quality defenders and to a large degree the team you play for can reflect the quality you are as a player. We can see the Quality of Iwobi, KC, Moses, and Mikel again reflected in the quality teams they have played for or are playing for presently. None of our CB's are playing in a top league, none of them are in top teams. The cold hard truth is that we do not have a quality top class CB , this is a PROBLEM if we really want to have aspirations to compete at a higher level. 1 Like |

tbaba1234: The more you play the higher your market value and interest, particularly when you are putting in top class performances. The football world has a short memory. His last few outings have shown a lack of goals and he is now a bench warmer. With questions raised about his quality. He needs to move before he becomes a forgotten man and his value plummets 3 Likes |

Arsenal would become a team where no one will want to go to soon. The Plague team. Wenger is still telling us that despite seeing All the crap Ozil plays vs what Iwobi brings to the table,he still have doubts on putting up with Iwobi? As for Ideye, This guy is still very useful for SE. Very useful. |

komekn: The cold hard truth is that it is easy to pass a low quality defender into a top team than a more advance player. That is why players like Jones, Evans, Smalling and Callum Chambers landed deals in big clubs. When Villas-Boas played John Terry in a high line, he was reminiscent of the John Terryble we used to know. Very poor but that is a player who is one of the tops in the history of the EPL. Stay deep, kick and puff. That was why Mancini dropped Lescott for Nastastic. Our defenders are better on the ball than some of these players in the so called big leagues and clubs. They find it difficult to break in because of the amount of room for wack players to shine. |
