Eagles Star Etebo Hands Portuguese Side Injury Boost Ahead Of Boavista Clash

CD Feirense have been handed a big boost after the full recovery of Nigerian star Oghenekaro Etebo from the injury that has kept him out for one month.

Etebo is available for selection this weekend when they take on Boavista in the Portuguese league, and his fitness will no doubt gladdens the heart of the technical crew of the club.

Since limping out of Feirense’s clash against Vitoria Guimaraes on the 14th of January with a thigh muscle injury, he has missed the games against Estoril, Moreirense, Rio Ave and Tondela.

So far injuries have limited Etebo’s appearances for the newly promoted Portuguese side as he has only made ten league appearances this season, with just a goal to his name this season which game in the Portuguese cup.

The 21 year old forward return to full fitness will also put him in contention for Nigeria’s set of friendly games against Senegal and possibly Ghana in March.

Ex Man City Boss Pellegrini Talks Up Plans To Reunite With Iheanacho At Hebei Fortune In China

Pellegrini who gave Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho his breakthrough at Manchester City last season, listed the Nigerian as part of the players he would love to work with at the Chinese club in the future.

Although the Nigerian has found games hard to come by under new City boss Pep Guardiola, Pellegrini insist the 20 year old forward is very happy at the Etihad.

” I have worked with a whole lot of players, but some I feel I won’t love working with them in the nearest future but I won’t mind luring some to join me in China,” Pellegrini said.

” The young players have worked with in the past are the ones I strongly feel we could work again before I retire, there are many like Iheanacho but I know he is very happy at Manchester City”,

not many enough to arrive at that conclusion.
If the Belgian League were full of Vertonghens and Alderweirelds I'm sure scouts of better leagues would be recruiting them in their droves every transfer window.
I'm sure the people benching Ekong won't be good enough to start for Newcastle

You are not sure if they will bench at Newcastle. However, that was my point this whole time. With lots English teams favoring a deep line set up, it is easier for their defenders to look good. Just like Terry. He is one of the best defenders in the history of the EPL. However, when Villas-Boas put him in a high line set up, he looked worse than an average player.

Although, Newcastle is exempted because of Benitez.

Conte Assures Loanee Omeruo Of Chelsea’s Chance In 2016/2017 Pre Season Games

One of the numerous players of English Premier League side Chelsea who has been assured of his spot in the team in the nearest future is Kenneth Omeruo.

Omeruo is in his fourth loan spell away from Stamford Bridge, and it is reported that unlike previous seasons where he has hardly been given a look in during pre season, he will get his chance this season.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte assured the Nigeria international that he has a future at the club, and promised him a spot in his squad for their pre season tour at the end of the current season.

We gathered, the promise from Conte was part of the reasons why Omeruo accepted to extend his contract with Chelsea before heading out on loan to Alanyaspor, where he has impressed so far.

Rated as a future captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the 23 year old centre back has so far impressed in three different roles this season, excelling as a full back, a centre back and most recently a defensive midfielder.

Everton Star Ademola Lookman Could Make Eagles Squad For Senegal Friendly, Rohr To Hold Talks With Him In London

Everton rising star Ademola Lookman is seriously under consideration by coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr ahead of the Super Eagles friendly tie against Teranga Lions of Senegal in London.

Lookman who has been an instant hit for Everton since his move from Charlton Athletics has already represented England at youth level, but he is still eligible for Nigeria.

The electronic version of UK based tabloid Daily Mirror reports that representatives of the 19 year old met with big wigs of the Nigeria Football Federation last week about his international future.

Coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr reportedly requested for the meeting between the NFF and Lookman, ahead of his meeting with the coveted star next week in England.

Rohr wants to move quickly and has earmarked Lookman for a place in his squad for the next friendly against Senegal next month, which is meant to prepare Nigeria for the AFCON 2019 and World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

Nigeria Using Family Friends To Put Everton Lookman Under Pressure – English FA Cries Out

A member of England U-20 back room staff has cried out over the plans of Nigeria to snatch Ademola Lookman from England using close family members of the Everton star.

Representatives of the 19 year old have met with officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Lookman reportedly seems interested in switching allegiance to Nigeria despite representing England at various youth levels.

England are however unhappy that Nigeria has been using all means available to lure the Everton rising star, including close family members who are putting the lad under pressure to accept Nigeria.

” The pressure is telling. Lookman is a young man who should be allowed to focus on his club career but Nigeria are putting him under immense pressure, he is still building his career and the last thing he needs is distractions due to his international future”, he reportedly said to an Everton based media.

However his acceptance to play for Nigeria will be in the open after his meeting with coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr next week, according to reports gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com.

We also gathered that his father is reportedly in supporting of his son representing Nigeria as he is a big fan of the Super Eagles but will let his son decide his international future.

Ikeme Brace Up For Diego Costa Challenge When Wolves Take On Chelsea In Emirate FA Cup

Super Eagles and Wolverhampton Wanderers shot stopper Carl Ikeme has expressed his happiness at reaching 200 senior appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday evening in their game against Wigan Athletic.

Ikeme is once again expected to be behind the sticks for Wolves when they face Premier League leaders Chelsea this weekend in the FA Cup, and he believes it will be a tougher tie than their last game, where they sent Liverpool out of the tournament.

“Saturday’s going to be even tougher as they’re flying at the moment,” he said.

“It’s something that we can enjoy. I think it’s a game we can give back to the fans.

“We haven’t been in the Premier League for a number of years and we’ve had a couple of low points during that time as well.

“As players, as staff and as supporters I think it’s game that everyone can just go and enjoy.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Molineux packed. It’s going to be a great atmosphere and a great occasion.

“The bigger the occasion is, the better we seem to play.

“It’s going to be something that everyone’s going to revel in. Nobody’s going to have any fear.

“You’re playing against the best players in the world so it’s going to be something that we’re all going to enjoy and we’re all going to do our best.”

Nigerian Striker Osawe Improves Goal Tally In Germany With Another Goal For Kaiserslautern

23 year old Nigerian forward Osayamen Osawe scored his sixth goal of the season for German side Kaiserslautern to help them to a 3-0 win over Sandhausen.

The forward was introduced in the 70th minute, and nine minutes later scored the third and final goal for his side to round up a comfortable victory for Kaiserslautern, which takes them to 11th position on the second division standings in Germany.

Osawe joined Kaiserslautern in the summer after scoring 17 goals in two seasons with third division side Hallescher, he is presently four goals short of his last season tally of 10 goals from 20 games in a tougher league in just few games.

Born in England to Nigerian parents, he had a short spell at English side Blackburn Rovers before trying out at Accrington Stanley, Hyde United and Southport before moving to Germany.

Eligible for both Nigeria and England, the power playing forward is yet to be capped by both nations at any level, no thanks to the slow progress of his career during his teen years.

Oliseh Extends Unbeaten Run As Coach Of Dutch Side With Big Win Over Jong Utrecht

Former Super Eagles captain and manager Sunday Oliseh and his new team Fortuna Sittard continued their rise up the table in the Netherlands with a 4-1 win over Utrecht II.

Oliseh took over the reins of the club in January, and has so far helped their aim of trying to avoid the drop to the third division in the Netherlands.

Their lastest win extends their unbeaten run to four games this season, the first time they are putting together such a run since the start of the season.

The win also lifted them to 16th on the log standings, and pulled them further away from the drop zone as they are presently on 27 points, 17 points more than bottom placed Achilles ’29.

Oliseh’s short term contract with the team which is suppose to elapse at the end of the season, will be automatically renewed if they beat the drop.

Zulte-Waregem Converts Eagles Defender Madu To Left Winger, Nominated For POTM Award

Super Eagles deputy left full back Kingsley Madu has been converted to a left winger by the coach of his Belgian side Zulte- Waregem, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.

Madu has failed to dislodge regular left back Brian Tomming Hamalainen since his move to the team in the summer, although he has replaced the Dane on several occasion.

Manager Frank Dury who rates the Nigerian highly had to devise a way of accommodating him in his team, hence the decision to push him upfront as a left winger.

The Nigerian scored a sublime goal from the new role in a recent friendly tie against Borussia Monchengladbach, a goal which according to many formed the basis of his nomination for the Club’s Player Of The Month Award.

Since joining the Belgian side from AS Trencin, Madu has made seven league appearances for the high flying team while he has played in all of their four games in the Cup, where he has a goal registered to his name.

Both have their pros and cons
For instance
Defending deep leaves almost no recovery time when an error Is made while for high line, there is almost always the opportunity to recover as long as you have pace, that's why defenders without pace tend to look below par in it.

So the idea that a defender than can perform in high lines Is better than his counterpart because of that Is not the most accurate idea to peddle

Uche Agbo Disciplinary Record Worsens With Another Booking In Granada’s Win Over Betis

Super Eagles and Granada of Spain midfielder Uche Agbo picked up another booking in the La-Liga despite posting a man of the match performance in Granada’s 4-1 win over Eibar.

Agbo was on for the entire duration of the game, and put in a commendable shift in the midfield in his role as part of the three midfielders in front of the back four.

However just like in previous games, he was booked for foul play with nine minutes left to play in the encounter. A booking which takes his season’s caution to nine.

The 21 year old has picked up a booking in the last five games he has played for Granada including a red card in their 1-1 draw against Osasuna, which saw him suspended for three games.

On loan from English Premier League side Watford for the rest of the season, he appears not to have learnt from his suspension, as he has picked up a booking in all of the three games he has played since his return from suspension.

Liverpool Ready To Swoop For Nigerian Wonderkid As Chelsea Confirm Exit

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has confirmed that England youth international of Nigerian heritage Dominic Solanke is set to depart the club at the end of this season.

Talks between Chelsea and the attacker have not led to him penning a new deal, and it is obvious that he will depart Stamford Bridge in the summer with Liverpool favourites to land his signature.

“I think [he will leave], I am not sure, but I think this is his will,” Conte told the national press.

“It is best to ask him why. For me, it is very difficult to answer this question because I have only been working with Chelsea for seven months.”

The Italian manager added : “I think for a young player to play in a great team like Chelsea is a great opportunity. I have spoken with him to try to understand his decision. It is normal. We must have a http://allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=22101great respect for every decision.

"His contract expires in June and he has the choice to stay with Chelsea or to go away. I wish him and his family the best.”

Solanke , 19, has spent the whole of his career at Chelsea aside from a brief loan spell with Vitesse during the 2015-2016 season.

Nigeria: Eagles Move to Avoid Mistakes of 2014

By John Egbokhan
For the second time in about four years, Nigeria will be confronting South Africa in the qualifying race for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2019.

After winning a third AFCON crown at South Africa 2013, many Nigerians fans were of the belief that the Super Eagles would have a smooth ride to the following edition in Equatorial Guinea

Pooled alongside South Africa, Congo and Sudan in Group A, with the top two teams automatically qualifying for the show-piece event, officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) swaggered about believing that the Eagles were already in dreamland.

At first glance, they could be forgiven as the Eagles boasted of an impressive record against the South Africans.

South Africa do not have a good football record against Nigeria. Bafana Bafana were walloped 4-0 by Nigeria in their first ever World Cup qualifying match in October 1992. Richard Owubokiri opened the scoring ten minutes before half-time and the Super Eagles ran riot after the break, with Samson Siasia doubling the lead before the late Rashidi Yekini bagged two more goals.

In the return leg at Soccer city in January 1993, it ended goalless

The next time both teams met again was in the semi-finals of the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations co-hosted by Ghana and Nigeria. Two strikes from Tijani Babangida sealed Eagles place in the final

In their next meeting in 2004, Eagles reminded Bafana Bafana that they were still the boss, with former captain, Joseph Yobo scoring the opener, before Austin Okocha increased the lead while Osaze Odemwingie netted two late goals to give Nigeria a commanding 4-0 win.

But Bafana Bafana will later in the year, get their first win over Nigeria, courtesy of a 2-1 margin in the Nelson Mandela Challenge.

However, the blip at the Nelson Mandela Challenge in 2004 was atoned for by the Nigerians, who recorded another win over Bafana Bafana, this time during the 2010 World Cup/Nations Cup qualifiers.

In the return fixture, Eagles defeated Bafana Bafana 1-0 in Port Elizabeth.

It was another walk in the park for the Eagles, when they clashed with Bafana Bafana in August 2013 in a Nelson Mandela Challenge tie, as two goals by Uche Nwofor separated the Nigerians from the boys from the Rainbow nation.

Nigeria inflicted a seventh defeat in nine matches on Bafana Bafana at CHAN 2014 in Cape Town, with Ejike Uzoenyi scoring a brace while Ifeanyi Ede added the third before Bafana's striker Bernard Parker scored a consolatory goal from the penalty spot

But some months later in Cape Town, South Africa redeemed themselves by holding the Eagles to a barren draw in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, a game that would set the tone of things to come as the Nigerians would end up not qualifying for the tournament hosted by Equatorial Guinea

After suffering many heart-rending defeats to Nigeria, it was fitting that Bafana Bafana were the ones who stopped Eagles from qualifying for AFCON 2015, getting a deserved 2-2 draw in Uyo.

In hindsight, they would have ended the 2015 qualifying race with aplomb, racing into a 2-0 lead, courtesy of two goals by Tokelo Rantie, before being pegged back by two late Sone Aluko's goals.

In fact, the visiting South Africans were on the brink of recording a historic first victory over the Nigerians in a competitive match and in Nigeria for that matter. The result meant Nigeria finished in third place while South Africa and Congo got the two automatic qualifying tickets to play in the 2015 tournament. Even though they was still a place for the third best team to qualify for the tournament, Nigeria failed to make the grades, losing the slot to D.R Congo, who with nine points, edged out the Eagles, who finished the qualifying campaign with eight points.

The damage to Eagles was done at home, losing 3-2 to Congo, drawing 2-2 with South Africa and beating Sudan 3-1, leaving them with a miserly four points from a possible nine. They managed to pick the same number of points in their three away matches, all amounting to nothing for a team, boasting of three Nations Cup titles under their belt.

And after missing out on a place to the 2017 AFCON in Gabon and finding themselves in the same group with South Africa, Libya and Seychelles in the qualifying race for AFCON 2019, it seems the Eagles are working out plans to avoid making the same mistakes that cost them dearly in 2014.

Coach Gernot Rohr gave this indication earlier in the week, when he said beating South Africa on June 13 in Uyo was top on his scale of preference. At a time that the spotlight has been beamed on the August 28th 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash between Nigeria and Cameroon, Rohr, said it was important for his team to get their AFCON campaign off with a win against the Bafana.

"We have to be very careful not to focus too much on Cameroon because we are not playing them until the last week of August. Before then we have an equally important game against South Africa in the AFCON qualifiers in June.

"I understand that Nigerians are concerned about our progress to the 2018 World Cup in Russia but don't forget that we have not qualified for AFCON since 2013 and the crucial game against South Africa is in June, so I want to focus on that", added Rohr.

He hinged Eagles success against South Africa on early and good preparations, saying that the upcoming friendlies will put his team in the right frame of mind.

"Between now and June, we are going to play two friendly games, which will help us against South Africa", said the former Burkina Faso coach, whose Nigerian adventure has been impeccably perfect.

Since his appointment as Eagles manager in 2016, Rohr has masterminded a 1-0 win over Tanzania in a AFCON 2017 qualifier in Uyo and two World Cup qualifying victories over Zambia and Algeria, results that have brought a new sense of belief amongst Nigerian fans that the dark days of walking in the abyss were over.

You're right on the money.
It takes a quick defender to play in a high line setup a slower defender will be more comfortable in a deeper set up.

Diego Godin is one of the best defenders around but he thrives in Diego simeone's deep defensive set up.

It's wrong for TheGoodJoe to write off a defender who thrives in one system more than the other.
There are many ways to play football.

”The pressure is telling.

Sorry, he played under Jurgen Klopp. Are you not aware? grin

We know why he played in the U23 for 'only' this season. grin

Besides, Ekong and Omeruo couldn't even make the cut to the U23 in Tottenham and Chelsea. grin We know they could make it in England, na. grin

Moreover, he is now playing for Reading-fc hence the need to offload them out of England because no club deem it fit to buy them.

At least, better than one obscure club in Turkey and seating on the Bench in Gent after coming out of loan in 'Norway'. shocked grin

Bros, fear God na.
Ekong was only 17 when he left Tottenham. That he didn't play for the Under 23's at such age cannot be used to judge his abilities. Except you are being mischievous.

Omeruo was in the Chelsea team prior to 2014 world cup after coming back from a successful loan spell in Holland and winning the Afcon as a super regular.
Chelsea still gave Omeruo a contract extention while Liverpool flogged Ilori off at 50% loss.

It's an indictment on Ilori that Klopp over saw him train and binned him to the U23s grin grin

You see how you are shooting yourself in the foot. grin

Can you see you are been mischievous with your analyses?

At 17 years of age Ilori was already playing first team football with Sporting Lisbon and you are here making excuses for Ekong. grin

After all, you told you told us about a 18 years old Liverpool's defender who had more game time than Tiago Ilori at Liverpool. Now, you are changing mouth. grin

If Ekong was good enough, They wouldn't have let him go for shi shi, I mean for free. grin don't you get it? grin

Prior to 2014, Tiago Ilori had already played in the Portuguese Liga with one of the top three clubs in the Portuguese Liga and in the La Liga before he played in the Ligue 1 with Bordeaux that same year. grin And you are here talking about the Dutch league Omeruo sparingly featured even though he had no injury. grin

Going to the Nations cup was not on merit else Tiago Ilori would had received a call up ahead of Omeruo. grin

Chelsea gave him a extension and so. grin

Who does not know Nigerian players will prefer to seat on the bench as long as money dey enter pocket. grin

If he is good enough em for don go another better club, than rather allow Chelsea make em waste em career for Turkey. grin

How many 17yr olds get transfered for huge amounts? How much did Arsenal pay for 17yr old Cesc? How much did they pay for 17yr old Bellerin? Ekong took a brave decision leaving Fulham for Tottenham then to the Dutch league.

Just like I acknowledged earlier, Iloriis on a decline. It appears when he hit the ground, he still kept digging grin
For a player who broke into sporting first team at 17 then a 7M transfer to Liverpool... In just 3 years he was demoted to the development league and then binned to the championship represents decline in my books oga grin

Yes I red the manipulated news, Lookman is interested to play for Nigeria? That I can't believe until it's officially announced and see him in the green and white jersey.

Yes! Ekong took a brave decision to had chickened out of England when he saw the hand written on the wall, since he knew he will never make the cut in any level of league in England. For that I will give you a pass mark. grin

Thank God you have that acknowledged Tiago Ilori has been at the top but that can't be said of Omeruo and Ekong.

They never reach top once. grin

Even, where Tia is now is still better than were Ekong and Omeruo dey. I lie. grin
