@Eraytee, mijavid, platypelloid, penitential, Perotti, everyone.

Thank you for the goodwill message.

Megziflips:

If you're given 25k, you have 12k left after tuition for the first year, which means you have 1k to spare monthly. That's enough to get by as long as you aren't looking to make a luxurious living.
If I may ask, did you secure the accepting supervisor before application?

Thanks. Yes. Securing a supervisor was a strong criteria and I got two supervisors there. But I was finally given one out of two, as stated on my unconditional admission letter.

freeradical:

Good day all.

I am expecting my admission from Uni of New Brunswick any moment from now. Specifically, i applied for Bsc Accounting.

I am 35yrs married with 2kids. I have HND Accounting (Distinction) and have banking work experience of over 8yrs, voluntarily resigned last year. University of New Brunswick will let me finish d degree program in 2yrs and i may do a MBA right after. I plan to go with my 2 kids while hubby will stay back working in Nigeria. He'll be our sponsor.

Pls advise me on how to go about applying for the student visa. Do I need an agent to help put together my application, do i apply with the kids and hubby or the kids alone or as a single application? What are my chances.

Hubby plans to provide a POF of 40mil, is this good enough?

Kindly advise me on how to go about this. Thanks all

First of all, i urge u 2 alwaz go tru previous post as dis kind of question has been dealt wit severally in previous posts, it wud b gud u bring out time & browse tru people's response here wich if u didn't find any helpful u can den ask, dis will help 2 lesson de ambiguous nature of de question u've 2 ask as it is now.

my question is why go for B.Sc instead of diploma since u got HND already.. as B.Sc requires strong financial muscle.. and anoda 1 is>>wit 8yrs of experience in de banking sector why not try Express Entry.. aspa de application u can do it ursef if u take out time 2 read posts here & ask question were u are confussed, coz many people have suffered from many agents acts of negligence & carelessness.. i suggest u apply wt ur kids while ur hubby serves as ur home tie, wen u get ur visa & move he can join u tru SOWP.. CIC stipulates 2000 for each accompanyin minors.. ur kids goin wt u requires strong application packaging.. if u can try it out fine..

40mil proof of fund is not de only mata.. how abt de inflow & outflow of de account.. beware of money lodgement!!

Lastly.. it all depends on u.. can de kids cope while u are away.. how old are they? can ur hubby take proper care of dem while u are off.. if he cant & if de ar 2 tender u can apply wt dem but note it wil add 2 expenses.. as u wud enrol dem in sch if de ar below 4yrs i tink.. wich am sure dia nursery/day care is privately run & expensive, if de ar not up to school age u will employ a Nanny dat will take care of dem while u study, as u are not 2 be inconvenienced while studyin... so datz de reason u need strong financial backing.

so in all.. chill & get ur admission 1st..

my token contribution oda gurus can fire on..

Ask the program admin and co-ordinator if it is PGD.

Yes it is.

Graduate Diploma Rural Development, Brandon University. Though I applied for Master Rural Development.

M major concern is the spate of refusal sinonemous with Diploma related courses that I saw here last year. It scares me and I don't want to waste my time and money!

Refusal is mostly advance diploma which is lower than Bsc and PGC irrelevant to UG study. If you UG program carry same name as this one, work on your finance and home tie, and make sure they are very strong.

@Osemigho

The Canadian embassy website explicitly states that you need a total of CAD10K plus tuition fee for a year a as proof of funds. It also stated that it can be proof of funding paid from within Canada if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program.

My question is, having been granted full funding do you still need to provide SOA or will the funding letter suffice?

Good evening fellow nairalanders,

I salute your selflessness and support.

I am new to TRV section.

I have been doing investigation on travelling to Canada since late last year.

A certain development at my workplace has geared me up now more than ever to pursue the Canada dream.

I studied elect/elect eng. and finished with 4.02/5.0 in 2013. I'm 27 and single. I have worked for two different telco coy as Field Engineer for 3 years.

I would like to know the best plans as I am currently considering applying for an MSc in Telecommunication in a Canadian University,

I would like to be abreast of the constraints including the financial implication as this seemingly is the biggest bottleneck.

Let say on a budget of N2.5m (December Target).

I'm open to any suggestions and advice

Thanks a million

Your choice and intended master program is good and in line with both your work experience and degree but firstly, you must try to get admission into your proposed program first before you start considering financial aspect of your study permit application. This is because, a number of factors will be considered before you can reach your budget and one of them is your TUITION.

So get admitted first and then you can proceed from there.

On that budget, your best bet would be to apply to a research based masters program and hopefully you can secure funding.

Also from my experience I don't think you'd easily find a masters in Telecommunication program. What you should be looking for is a masters In Electrical/Computer Engineering program with a specialization in Telecommunications (or something closely related like signal processing).

Note:
For Queens University, the Telecommunications is an area under Computer Science rather.

I work with a bank, rural facility monitoring precisely
I am married with a one month old daughter - home tie
Wifey works with a bank too.

$2550: The cost implication is very affordable I must say.

I will definitely be adding statement of account considering that I need to show I can afford plane ticket and few weeks accommodation and feeding before funding is paid.

Yes, you are right.
From my research Telecommunication is usually an option under Electronic and Computer Engineering Department in most Canadian Schools (ref. UofS, UofM)

I have submitted a pre-aplication form at UofS.

Any more pieces of advice.

From my research the avg min tuition for the Msc program is 11k or 6k per year. (ref. UofS, UofM, UofV)

Are you suggesting I should concentrate on getting admission first?

Hi everyone,

Please i need your candid advise.

I applied for BSc Accounting at Uni of New Brunswick and expecting admission from there any moment from now.

I am preparing for student visa application in advance and need all the information i can get.

I am 35yrs, married with 2kids, have an HND (Accounting), plan to go with the kids while hubby will stay back working (he's our sponsor). What are my chances or how best should i apply? All of us together, just with the kids or as a single applicant?

I have 8yrs+ banking experience and voluntarily resigned last year. We will provide a POF of 40-50mil and honestly tell them i got the bank job effortlessly upon graduation especially because i finished with a distinction but it is now challenging getting a better job because of the discrimination against HND and decided to get a degree in the same course and an opportunity to get an international learning experience of the course...

Please advise me. I want to give it the best shot so i am not denied the chance that i am so looking forward to. Or do you think i may need to get an agent to help put it all together nicely?

Thanks so much everyone, i look forward to learning from you all.
Madam, from your profile and especially the bold statements, this intention may be a very dicey step to make as it will be quite difficult to convience a visa officer why a sudden interest in the same program and at the same level(even though there is little disparity between both) after a good working experience while also considering your age and family situation.

Also, you will have to prove to them how you intend to cope for 4 years with 2kids and family issues too. In this case, the shorter the year(s) of program, the better your chances.
This is not to discourage you but just to see reasons from a perspective that is more realistic.

I think you should apply for a higher degree instead. That way, you would be showing academic progression and also career advancement. 8 years of work experience in itself and in all sense can get one well at the TOP level of management and any academic intentions should project that path or even higher.

Other circumstances(kids, sponsorship) surrounding your study intention should come up when you have the major highlight of your profile as presented here tackled. It's clearly your PURPOSE OF VISIT. Please, do well by addressing it before you eventually apply for a study permit.

All the best to you.

my humble self and a selfless fellow is saying Congrats on stage 1, for the stage 2,if your program comes with full funding, you will have to explicitly write a special LOE for the funding part for the VO to have clearer understanding than incorporating it in you study plan/sop. Roughly to be on the safer side, you can show a statement of account of a sponsor with regular income and a closing balance of at most 2.5m despite the funding to at least pass a message to the VO that your flight money and at least 2months accommodation, feeding for few months wouldn't be a problem and while the sponsor is still left with some back in the account for his personal expenses and dependents if married. Congrats once more..

Yes! When you get it, you will know the exact tuition for your program so your financial documents for the study permit will then be built around that and other requirement of CIC.

Forget about GRE and other exams, if your department doesn't require it. Your person probably is a US-knowledge person.
About funding, you should have an idea before applying, by browsing your program website well.
Now that you went for McGill- Big Gun, what's your CGPA? Hope your SOP is interesting? Did you get letter of recommendation from your UG project supervisor?
My advise: apply to 2 more schools. To avoid story that touches bumbum.
I also applied to McGill University, what do you mean by interesting SOP, how has is it to get admitted the?

Yes. Very cheap.

A letter from office stating your role and willingness to grant you study leave.

Strong bank account. Total fees (tution and upkeep) plus 4-6kcad for your family.
