How many 17yr olds get transfered for huge amounts? How much did Arsenal pay for 17yr old Cesc? How much did they pay for 17yr old Bellerin? Ekong took a brave decision leaving Fulham for Tottenham then to the Dutch league.

Just like I acknowledged earlier, Iloriis on a decline. It appears when he hit the ground, he still kept digging grin
For a player who broke into sporting first team at 17 then a 7M transfer to Liverpool... In just 3 years he was demoted to the development league and then binned to the championship represents decline in my books oga grin

Hehehehe! Point of correction, Tiago Ilori was on loan with Bordeaux 3 years ago and with Aston Villa last season. tongue grin

If you are not been mischievous, you would have confirmed that injury played a part in his career progress last season.

Habi you know know! grin

Yes! Ekong took a brave decision to had chickened out of England when he saw the hand written on the wall, since he knew he will never make the cut in any level of league in England. For that I will give you a pass mark. grin

Thank God you have that acknowledged Tiago Ilori has been at the top but that can't be said of Omeruo and Ekong.

They never reach top once. grin

Even, where Tia is now is still better than were Ekong and Omeruo dey. I lie. grin
I get am before no be property. Maybe Thiago hit his platuea at 17 grin
I hope he he picks what is left of his career at Reading otherwise he will end up in the familiar terrain of U23 developmental league Monday night scraps.

You're right on the money.
It takes a quick defender to play in a high line setup a slower defender will be more comfortable in a deeper set up.

Diego Godin is one of the best defenders around but he thrives in Diego simeone's deep defensive set up.

It's wrong for TheGoodJoe to write off a defender who thrives in one system more than the other.
There are many ways to play football.

You know Diego Gordin offers more than just defending. I am not writing off one system but saying that top quality defender should offer more than just defending.

PietroRico:

So defenders that can defend high should be rated first before those that excel In deeper systems?
Didn't some defenders in that Chelsea team perform better than Terry In that high defensive line?
Will anyone Rate them more than Terry because of that?
The idea that deep defending Is easy and hence performances there should be taken with a pinch of salt is something I see too often these days and its not entirely true.

Both have their pros and cons
For instance
Defending deep leaves almost no recovery time when an error Is made while for high line, there is almost always the opportunity to recover as long as you have pace, that's why defenders without pace tend to look below par in it.

So the idea that a defender than can perform in high lines Is better than his counterpart because of that Is not the most accurate idea to peddle

If you list some of the best defenders in the game today, most of them thrive in both deep and high defence lines.

Well Robben had a successful Chelsea career, if not for injuries he would have done much more but his performances were at least enough for Chelsea to make about 120% ROI.
He was bought for €18M and sold €35M. You can hardly put his situation to Ilori which Liverpool recorded a 50% loss grin grin

If his loan spell at Bourdeax was successful, Liverpool would have been mad to push him to their glorious U23s. grin

Omeruo already had a decent spell at the Championship, if he fancied staying back in the championship,he would have. I reckon Besiktas and celta Vigo put in a bid for him.
Which decent club considered Baresi Ilori? grin Reading of course for a whopping fee of 3M grin

His age mate Ndidi moved from the "obscure" Belgian league to Leicester for 15M. grin

Nigerian-Born Striker Scores In First Game Since The Appointment Of Oliseh

Fortuna Sittard continue to impress under new manager Sunday Oliseh after a 4-1 rout of Utrecht II at the Offermans Joosten Stadion on Friday night.

Seven games after the winter break, Fortuna Sittard have only lost once in the Eerste Divisie, a 2-1 defeat to Almere City on January 27, won three games and drawn three.

Başsan and Stokkers gave the home team a two-goal advantage heading into the interval against the team from Utrecht.

In the second half, Loukili pulled a goal back for the visitors before Dianessy and Junior Torunarigha scored and it turned out to be a comprehensive win.

Yesterday’s strike was Torunarigha first for Fortuna Sittard on his first appearance since the appointment of Oliseh.

In the first round of the season, Torunarigha suited up in every single game in the league, with the exception being the week 14 tie against Kelechi Nwakali’s MVV when he was non-playing sub.

18-Year-Old Nigerian Goalkeeper Makes Oxford United Squad Vs Middlesbrough

The young Nigerian goalkeeper Manny Agboola could make his competitive debut for Oxford United when they take on Middlesbrough in the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the 18-year-old netminder is in Oxford United’s traveling party to North Yorkshire, and is expected to make his team’s matchday squad.

In the last round, Agboola watched the entirety of Oxford United’s 3-0 rout of Newcastle United from the bench after he was recalled from his loan spell at North Leigh.

This website understands that the highly-rated goalkeeper will not reject a call-up to the national teams if invited, though he is eligible to turn out for England.

Roma Boss Spalleti Speaks On Nigerian Teen Nura Abdullahi After Dazzling Display On Return From Injury

As exclusively reported by Owngoalnigeria.com Roma Nigerian teen right back Nura Abdullahi made his long awaited comeback from the injury that has kept him out since last year.

Nura suffered a setback during his recovery and was initially billed to be out for the rest of the season, but the 19 year old miraculously recovered and played 45 minutes for the Primavera side in their 5-3 win over Crotone.

Widely regarded as one of the finest young emerging full backs in Italy, his return from injury caught the attention of head coach of the main team Luciano Spalleti.

Spalleti expressed his delight at seeing the youngster back on the pitch of play during his pre match conference ahead of their Serie A tie against Torino.

” Nura returned to the Primavera team for today’s game and he came through it fine, that is one positive for us ahead of what we expect to be a tough game against Torino”, Spalleti said.

Nigerian Talent Onyedima Outshine Ahmed Musa As Millwall Stun Leicester City In FA Cup

English Premier League Champions Leicester City were dumped out of the FA Cup by League One side Millwall courtesy of a late goal by Shaun Cummings.

Little known Nigerian midfield sensation Fred Onyedima followed up his fine performance against Watford in the previous round with another eye catching display in the midfield.

Onyedima lasted the entire duration of the game, and put up a performance which prove why he is so highly rated and sort after by top English clubs.

20 year old Onyedima wasn’t the only Nigerian on the pitch as Leicester City big money buy Ahmed Musa lasted the entire duration of the tie but failed to deliver his side from the shock cup loss.

However Wilfred Ndidi was an unused substitute in the game, as manager Claudio Ranieri rested some of his regular players ahead of their Champions League round of 16 game against Sevilla next week.

Why Iheanacho Was Left On The Bench In Man City FA Cup Tie Against Huddersfield Town – Guardiola Explains

Coach of Manchester City Pep Guardiola has revealed the reason why Kelechi Iheanacho wasn’t introduced in Manchester City 0-0 draw away to Huddersfield Town in the Emirate FA Cup.

Iheanacho was for the first time in a month included in the match day squad by Guardiola but the Nigerian watched the entire duration of the game from the bench.

” We have only one striker (Iheanacho) on the bench, but we wanted to bring in creativity in the midfield and also inject pace on the wings, that was why we didn’t introduce a striker for a striker”, he said.

” Huddersfield Town were very organised at the back and kudos to them for keeping the scores at 0-0, we go again in few days time in what will be an intresting tie”.
