gees9: Not quite. The guys at Parliament were from W MPR - Western Military Police Region. The 7th Provost guys at Durbs are the Combat Ready Provost Company, to give them their official name. Think of it as regular SAPS and the STF. |

Frumentum:The Yanks procured the anti-dinosaur rifle for evaluations by their special forces. The picture might have been taken some where in SADC though. 1. Denel GA 1 20mm gun with a seat for installation on choppers similar to the Rhodasian K-Car. The Mexicans use them. 5 Likes

Unfortunately the Nigerian army hasn't had a media reawakening like the Nigerian Air Force so, photos of the army's research and innovation summit are almost impossible to come by. However here are the couple things I could get. It seems Nigerian army Anti-Air artillery systems have been re-engineered and some re-purposed as the image on the bill-board shows. 3 Likes

Thales defence and other multi national companies were present at the summit. You can just make out the Thales stall in the first photo.

Those are Ratel 60's. The command ratel has a matlet for the 12.7mm similar, but smaller than the 20mm's mantlet. You'll see it stick out regardless of whether or not the gun is mounted. The idea is to make the command ratel look like a Ratel 20 for obvious reasons. The officers are located in the crew compartment on lazy chairs and buried in maps and radios. (Cooler box with steaks and beer are at the back door.) These are later models of the 60's turret with raised copulas to mount laser rangefinders and night vision. SANDF Ratels generally only mount weapons if they're going to be fired. You can go for months at a mechanised unit before seeing a ratel with a gunbarrel. jln115:

Aptly titled 'Textbook Take Down". Jane's Defence Weekly article on "Operation Restore Democracy". Senegal's army covers this coming issue of the operation to restore democracy in Gambia. Nigeria led operation which had Senegal providing the force on the ground, along with 250 Ghanaian infantry and air, naval and Special forces cover from Nigeria. 3 Likes

Now that their families have ok'd the release of their names: The Chief of the South African National Defence Force, General Solly Shoke, has following consultation with the families of the sailors who lost their lives during the attempted rescue of the three Public Works employees at Durban Naval Base on 17 February released the names of the deceased sailors. RIP heroes. 7 Likes

Odunayaw: I hope so. On the ATV there is virtually no information on it. It's just crazy. The main problem is the fact that there is no dedicated military media in Nigeria. That's why information is scarce sometimes. 3 Likes |
