Lol  sincerely, some of em myt be professional. But if all of em r asked what prompted them to choose that branch of medical practice, well, I'm just imagining the answers they could give. Coz I belive u don't just choose a path, sth triggers it. Perhaps I'm reasoning like an engineer on this topic. HellRaiXer:Liar! 80-90% of RESIDENTS TRAINING IN GYNECOLOGY in the US are females. Not 80-90% of gynecologists are females. I’m sure you can’t tell the difference. That’s why you could never enter nor finish med school even if your life dependent on it. And it’s a skewed stat. As late as 1990, only 22.4% of all ob-gyns in the US were females. So what changed within 22 years (1990-2012). I’d tell you: Female applicants into medical school outnumbered male applicants in 2003. So we had more females entering the medical profession, and by design (in fact expectedly) most of them opted more to do their residency in specialties that appealed more to their feminism. Such as ob-gyn and pediatrics. To buttress my point, 75% of RESIDENTS TRAINING IN PEDIATRICS are females. It is similar to a student in high school who doesn’t like maths going on to do history or arts in college. And residency in the US is by slots. With more applications from females than males, more females got in. This isn’t rocket science. Even an uneducated cobbler would understand this. But that isn’t all. There’s this thing called gender-bias in medical specialties. It is very similar to what happens in engineering. Engineering is a guy thing, so even girls that would do well in engineering just put it off like it’s a “guy thing.” That is also happening in ob-gyn. More and more male prospective residents are saying, yeah well, ob-gyn is a female specialty, let’s move on to male specialties like orthopedic surgery or radiology. It’s similar to the same way males interested in the health sector in Nigeria overwhelmingly shy away from Nursing, despite the fact that male nurses are fairly better (I’m speaking from experience). So it has nothing to do with creepiness. Male doctor trainees are just leaving the fields the women felt they were more inclined to, to fields where women don’t feel so connected to. It’s this gender equality thing playing out all over again (make no mistake, I applaud it). I’m a radiographer (yea, in Nigeria we do everything from HSG in women to KUBs where we have to insert tubes into joysticks, to rectal exams where we have to look up someone’s ass-crack (yeah, I guess for a psycho, that’d be fun) to theater runs where we have to assist orthopedic surgeons), and if I had to study medicine, I’d either specialize in radiology or neurosurgery. That’s where all the fun is. The spate of advancements in radiology in recent years is mind-blowing (from t-waves to elastography). Let’s not talk about neurosurgery. I think a straight male who went ,after being a doctor, to specialise in female organs/health is a pervert and creep and truly has psychological problems. That is because you are a pervert. It takes a creep to know a creep. I ain’t no creep, so I can’t think like a creep. There is nothing special about female organs or female health. They are human beings like men too. And after looking at both dead female cadavers and seeing females with fibroids about the size of a football, women (no matter how beautiful) begin to look like a walking pile of pathogens mixed with flesh. We have to sterilize equipment after we are done (I’m talking as a radiographer) and ob-gyns do too, regardless of whether the lady is a healthy Kim Kardashian or an HIV patient with vaginal bleeding. Why do you think that is? Do you know the variety of bacteria are in that hoo-ha you can’t seem to get enough and lick. Now to answer your question about one reason why male doctors would want to specialize in ob-gyn: Hear directly from a female ob-gyn: “OB-GYN is a very attractive field because it’s a great combination of internal medicine, a little psychiatry, and also surgery. I can totally understand why a man might be drawn to the field. A male doctor with a higher IQ and better salary than you dumpster does not have to answer to you why he is taking a specific and fulfilling career path. For example, a male ob-gyn might have lost his mother to a gender-specific disease or during childbirth and may then want to specialize and help women during pregnancy, does that make him a creep? Where do people like you crawl out from? What does a male know about PMS, cramps, menopause in experience? You're a loathsome pervert and creepy creep if you call people who raise valid concerns over a male doctor touching and poking female patients vagina. Dude, male doctors know more about the female anatomy than women themselves. That’s why they do 6 years of medical schooling and additional 2-4 years of residency. You can’t do all that training and reading and not know about PMS, cramps, menopause? How old are you? Why do you choose the female reproductive organ and health as an area of specialty of all the branches of medicine if the female pussy and boobs doesn't interest you beyond lungs, heart, brain and bones. What is there to be interested about a half naked woman (ob-gyns don’t get to see breasts typically) in a lithotomy position? You are just like these kids in puberty who think women don’t fart. That the gender difference is changing in the ob-gyn specialty like in most other specialties does not take away the vital service that male ob-gyns have given to womenfolk and preservation of female health. Male ob-gyns as well as in other allied health professions are more than happy to bequeath more of the responsibility to female health professionals who are finally waking up to the fact that women are just as knowledgeable to handle anything from child care services to missions on the ISS. This is not engineering. Humans are not cars, where you have to be passionate about engines or laws of physics to become an engineer. Most times, the only reason that's good enough for health professionals is to save lives. You'd probably never understand that, because if a natural disaster were to happen now, the surviving health professionals would stay around to help those in need rather than zoom off like the rest of you self-pompous, self-righteous moral dickh**ds.
