the travel agent isnt running student visa for him but a work visa. does it apply to them planing to go there for work(work visa) he says Australian government have no embassy in Niger, i dont know hot true that is and he also says theres no BIOMETRIC during the VISA Processing. my brother is currently in Brazil right now.he wants to leave there because life is getting tougher there. no Jobs, many over there are into drugs. its not a good place to raise kids. we consider him going to Australia through education but it seems the cost of processing australian study visa is on the highj side his budget is 2M. IS Such ammount sufficent to help process every thing (tuition fees and other travel expenses) will it cover? please i need your advice. |

linaluv: When you say work visa, which of them? Don't let your brother get jobbed; agents are not magicians- most even cause complications. Check border.gov.au for the various kinds of visas available, see the closest one(s) applicable to his situation and work towards it. Fear agents oo! Seconded @ most agents create complications. I am a testifier. In my opinion, ask your brother to Run...... |

Hi guys, it's been such a long time I dropped by, I forgot my login details and never had the time to reset the password until now. I would like to share my brief experience, to help those who are planning to come to this great country. I came in 6 months ago and settling down in Sydney wasn't too difficult for me, because I did my homework well and knew what I was expecting in terms of cost of living and job opportunities. I got a house on gumtree.com.au, my friends helped me tidy my resume, I applied to lots of jobs through seek.com.au, and was lucky to get 2 jobs within my first 3 weeks, so I got to choose the best. I did Cert IV in Disability, and I've been working in the Disability Sector and it's awesome. I also changed my course from Master of Accounting to Bsc Nursing. Some key points to note: 1. Come through PR or scholarship if you can, the school fees is pure extortion 2.Choose Sydney if you can. It's an awesome city with heaps of opportunities, you'll be tired of jobs. I'm not sure about other cities though. 3. Come with some money that can sustain you for a while cos you don't know when you'll get a job. Not everyone is lucky to get a job as soon as they arrive, and I've seen Naija students live here like church rats cos they came with no plan and expected money to fall from trees as soon as the landed. 4. If you want to get a good job after studies, choose your course carefully. Just because a course can give you PR doesn't mean it can give you jobs upon graduation, except you want to work minimum wage jobs all your life. Accounting/finance is one of the most useless courses here, it's only on PR list cos of the revenue it generates, especially from Asian students, don't make that mistake 5. Disability sector is massive with numerous jobs, get your certificate as soon as you arrive if it's your kind of thing, you'll make enough money to cover your bills. Don't bother about aged care cos the pay is shitty and the job more stressful. 6. Nursing is life, you'll never lack jobs and the pay is excellent. IT is so so, cos too many Indians have infiltrated the field. 7. As a student, you can't work full time or part time; only casual and casual jobs pay higher cos you can't get paid holidays etc. And for casual jobs, Aussies don't care much about degree (there are exceptions of course), job experience is bae, so fix your resume as soon as you arrive. 8. Cost of living is the only negative but the high wages make up for that. 9. Sydney is bae. Endless beaches and parks, great restaurants and bars if you like fine dining like I do, rivers and lakes for nature lovers; the list is truly endless. Makes the high cost of living worth it. 10. Coming to Australia is the best decision I have ever made and I love my life here. For ladies, fake Naija guys will be all over you as soon as they know you're new, use your brain and don't fall for bullshit, take your time and don't let anyone rush you. If you like dating other races and you're good looking, Aussie men like African girls, you'll have decent men hitting on you, then you'll get to choose the best. Take care of yourself and look sharp even before you leave Naija, loose weight if you're fat. Know your self worth, have a focus and most importantly, don't be slutty cos it won't get you anywhere (I'm saying this cos I know a couple of gals here who think that being easy and slutty will get them a hubby and PR ) If anyone has any questions about Sydney or my school WSU, quote me and I'll respond as soon as I can. Good luck in your hustles 22 Likes 2 Shares |

@ JewelStone . I really appreciate your advice and thanks for the valuable tips. I ll like to know the kind of accommodation you got on gumtree in Sydney and the rent range. i m asking because I ve heard Sydney is very expensive, so I expect things to be tough there compared to other areas in terms of accommodation. |

mctowel01: House share is very common in Sydney cos of the outrageous rents, some people share rooms but it's not my thing. Gumtree has a variety of accommodation options, you can rent a room in a shared house/flat or you can get a flat on your own and split the rent with your friends, depends on your budget. For rates, it depends on the location and the number of people in the house. It's more expensive the closer you are to Sydney CBD and the popular Northern Beaches. I live in Parramatta and it's slightly cheaper here, you can get a decent private room in a shared house between AUD 170-350 per week. In Sydney CBD, you'll be lucky to get a shared room in a shared house between AUD 200-300, private rooms are lot more pricey. Lol Sydney is extremely expensive but if you have a good paying job which is easy even for international students, it shouldn't be too much trouble. Which Uni, course and campus are you considering? I can help you check 1 Like |

mrsojephone: I've only spent a month in Melbourne, but here is what i have to say. Melbourne is great.....thats why it has always been voted the most liveable city in the world for a while now. The diversity, the road network(Train, Bus, Tram), people, foods, jobs. I would count myself as one of the lucky ones, i got a job in my 1st 2weeks, a car wash job actually. Most people don't have that luck. Its good to mingle and ask questions so one dont miss way. After my back nearly scattered i stopped, cos it wasn't easy at all but had to do it,had to stand for up to 8hrs with little pay. Then left for a housekeeping job which had been ok so far. Lots of jobs opportunities in Melbourne, but most of them involves standing, long hours standing. But if you can work hard, you wont have much problems. Part from sch, get extra moni for a course in Individaul Support (Aged Care, Disability). They'll take about 5months to get you prepared. Its the best paying job for stdnts. Classes are nice, people are ready to help. Learn to drive, cars are essential here. 80% of jobs come with cars, no cars no jobs. Get 9ja licence. The weather here is sumtin else....today its very cold, tomorrow its very hot, prepare for anything. Overall Melbourne is a nice place to be. Sydney I've heard to be a nice place too, but standard of living is quite expensive to that of Melbourne. Always praying for those preparing to come down here and those expecting grants. And God would surely bless the ladies and gentlemen trying their best in this forum answering questions and always trying to help out. You are the real MVPs #WehdoneSirs 6 Likes |

JewelStone: Thanks for the detailed reply. I ve actually submitted my EOI application for PR, currently awaiting an ITA. So I m not applying on a study visa but I prefer seeing things from the difficult angles of a student. |
Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by JewelStone(f): 8:55am On Feb 23, 2017 |
mctowel01: Good on you, PR is the best way to come here as it makes your life significantly easier. In reference to your original question, if you have a family, house share may not be convenient, you may have to get a flat which is more expensive. So It depends on your situation. But family or not, I would still choose Sydney. I know it seems very tough initially, but it gets easier once you get a job. 1 Like |

@bblessed, Thanks for your kind words, God bless you too dear. I did my training at a private college, it took about 1 month plus placement and it cost $1,350. It was an abridged course, public colleges take about 6 months. I learnt that things have changed now due to new government regulations but I'm not too sure. I'll ring the college I did mine and get more info on the changes, and will update. oknee: Awww...glad I could be of help. Please see my reply above regarding the course duration. |

Hello house! I read microbiology and intended going for masters of public health, but was was adviced to go for nursing. To be honest I'd prefer another option besides nursing. I'd like to know if going for environmental management is a good choice. Although it isn't on d SOL but it is in on the CSOL. Thank you |
