This post is what we need in the Southern part of Nigeria. There is no LOVE lost between Igbos and Yorubas. All things being equal these two group of people adore each other. Do not believe some things you read in the tabloids. My best friends anywhere have always been Yorubas, and I have never lived in the West. 14 Likes |

AlbusDumbledore: Happy to hear the NYSC is still producing people like you. You were probably not a tribalist from the onset and what you saw merely validated your views about our common humanity. Your parents did a good job. Please ignore the ethnic bigots. Young people need to conquer something. As Nigeria has not produced adequate opportunities, they turn on themselves. They are the real victims. Empathize. Well done. God bless you. Wishing you a bright and rewarding career in your chosen field. 30 Likes 1 Share |

I did serve in Enugu too, in the village of Eha Amufu in Isi uzo local government. You didnt mention the 'sweet and spicy jackie meat" did you? If you dont want to 'mistakenly' eat jackie meat, always opt for FISH - can we have fake fish? NB: Jackie is donkey meat! 4 Likes 1 Share |

OP, nice and sincere write up. Im from the south south and i grew up in Lagos; i have many wonderful and loyal Yoruba friends also; the stereotype views held by yoruba's and igbo's towards each other are really exaggerated. I believe strongly that EVERY ethnic group has something positive to bring to the table. Nigeria is a sweet country, im hopeful that we will overcome our present daunting challenges and move on to greatness. 8 Likes |

Enugu was the first state outside Lagos I visited. The land of the red soil. God bless Enugu State and its people. I know a friend who served their too . She is from the West - Lagos based. She only had good things to say and said if she had the opportunity she would have remained in Enugu. That alone is a vote of confidence. Being tribalistic to me makes you no better than a racist. Dont hate people because of their tribe or where they come from. 13 Likes |

kabrud: But the progress in education can reflect in jamb index.. Don't av issues with that as long people learn very well.. South east, south south and west always dominate in national exams, that is what matters.. 2 Likes |

I've never seen anybody who stayed in Enugu and didn't enjoy the state. Especially for guys. Enugu has some downsides though - For example, Enugu has no nightlife, after eight o'clock everybody don go sleep. Also, Sundays in Enugu can be boring as hell because Enugu people try to be more catholic than the pope. Asides that Enugu is a nice place and probably the best place in the south east. 7 Likes |

Truth be told, it's only nairaland ewarriors that full of hate. Real igbos don't behave like that. They will good and bad people in every ethnic group. No ethnic group is entirely good or bad people. It's just people perception. I have yoruba hausa and igbo friends. 4 Likes |

I love this. Thanks for the write up. On the education part am really disappointed. Enugu government really need to do something, they should borrow a leaf from Anambra state where their public schools are world class. I attended a government school in Anambra in mid 90s and youth corpers are not allowed to teach in my school. We have enough teachers that most times, a teacher in a particular subject may take A-C class while another will take D-F. It was this good. 6 Likes 1 Share |
