Dear VO,

Thank you for your response. As stated in my earlier post, my current visa is valid till mid 2018 (that's more than a year validity). Is it allowed to apply for a new visa when the current one still have more than a year validity? Will I apply via drop box or attend an interview? Is there any other thing I need to do to show my sincerity of purpose and avoid embarrassment at the port of entry?

Thanks once again.

abujaniv:
Hello manlogic. Birth tourism is legal and allowed, provided the applicant is open about their intention and able to pay the medical expenses in full. If the purpose and duration of travel deviate from that described at the interview and in the application, it invites closer scrutiny. Writing a change of intent letter after the fact doesn't accomplish anything. Though not required, some applicants choose to renew their visa early so as to explain their birth intent at the visa interview.

Good morning, I am not sure if this is right thread to ask my question but please answer if you can. I gave birth to my son in the US last year May and got his American Passport before coming back to Nigeria. I however noticed that his sex was erroneously written as F instead of M. There is an error on his State of birth too. I didn't notice all these while in the US. What can I do to correct these errors? Thank you.

Hello LEX4352. It's curious how you say here that you intend to spend three weeks in the US, whereas on another thread, you plainly state your intent to work there in violation of our immigration laws. My advice advice to you is to save your money and never apply for a visa to the US.

Dear VO,
I want to find out if I can still make any modification to my already submitted application . It just occurred to me that I wasn't asked to state my previous travel history. I'm afraid I may have clicked a wrong option when asked if I had traveled out of the country before . Or perhaps there was no part where I had to state my previous travel history. Unfortunately I had gone ahead to schedule my interview so I can't start all over again. I don't want it too seem like I deliberately picked the wrong option to mislead the VO. Thanks for your anticipated response

Hello VO, 2012, an agent convinced me to apply for visa with phoney work info( I wasn't in University then). I later got into University and my brother went to America for studies and got married to a Nigerian there. He sent me and IV for the wedding (Dec 2015) I got rejected (This time applying without lies. I replied Jan 2016, I stil got rejected. I'm confused about what to do as I have realised my mistake and now a graduate with potentials. I just want to visit and come back or go for masters. I don't want my 2012 ( agent application) to affect me again.
Pls, what can I do? I need help..

Hi bolton12. Don't worry too much about it. The visa officer is likely to ask about your travel history, so that is your opportunity to explain.

Hello DimmyCho. Yours is an unfortunate story that we hear all too often. Believe it or not, being denied a visa is not at all the worst that can happen if you submit or utter false information at the Embassy. You could get a lifetime ban from travel to the US or even arrested on the spot. It's just not worth it. As it is, you have badly damaged your credibility, and it's no use blaming an agent.

We talk a lot about ties, but credibility is the overarching quality in a good visa applicant. Once in the US, nobody will be watching your every move, so we have to be able to trust that you will obey the rules. When people betray that trust, they rarely get a second chance. The best thing is to let some time pass, and apply again when you think your ties are stronger. If asked, be forthright about the previous misrepresentation. It will make a big difference.

Hello Stdaviding. Every applicant must qualify upon their own merits, not someone's borrowed bank statement. Invitations are not required and will not be examined. It's generally better if individuals fill out their own application.

Good day officer,
Please you always stress that the burden of proof is on the applicant yet you never give us time to demonstrate our ties. It seems you already take decisions before the interview itself and the outcome of the interview has no significance on approval or refusal of visa applications.
Secondly, please do you derive pleasure in refusing applicants?
Thanks

Dear VO, thanks for your prompt response. I later got to know the process and due punishment to such act. As there have been many Nigerians in my shoes due to ignorance. I have ties now as I have graduated from you and I work for a film company but single. It's been more than a year since my last application (Jan2016) and I hope to reply mid 2017( I hope that's a enough time). Also, I really want to go for my masters degree and come back to continue my work. Pls, how do I know if I was banned? So I can know what step to take, Or do you suggest I write the embassy? I really want to clear my past and make things right.

Good morning.i must say I have learnt a lot on this forum. Please, I have a question, my wife an I are traveling to the US. She has a visa since last year on her maiden name because that's d name on her passport. Now the passport will expire this June, while the visa is expiring in 2018. She has renewed her passport now and the name on her passport now is my name (since she's married to me). Please I want to know the name I can use in buying her a ticket.
I'm confused because if I use her maiden name, her passport will expire June (which is less than 6 months from now) and if I use her new surname, the name is just on her new passport but not on the visa. Please advice....

Dear Admin.

I have a few questions.

My wife submitted her passport for dropbox and was asked to come in for an interview.

she made two visits to the US with the first visa to give birth writing to the embassy email address informing them of her intent which you say here does not matter so much since she wrote a change of intent after the fact

I wish to know the likely documents that may be required for this scheduled interview?

Even Though she didnt receive government aid nor any form of financial aid to pay her bills, is there need for a letter from the gynaecologist stating that she paid in full and didnt receive any aid? ( a different thread, " Give Birth in USA" mentioned that people were denied visa because they got discounts from their hospital of choice)
Is there an expedited process of choosing a date for this interview because the closest date am seeing is 7th of March

please advise.

Hello Afamdi12. Don't use an agent. Much heartache lies down that path. Read some pages of this thread. You will see that we say REPEATEDLY that documents, bank statements are not necessary.

Hello muyiwaojo1. The visa is valid till it expires. Your wife can carry two passports. For convenience sake, she may want to renew the visa early with the new name in the new passport. We can't advise you on ticket purchases or airline policy.

Hello jacksparow. In the case of births and students, some documents may be required. For births in particular, we want to confirm that healthcare costs were paid in full. Visa officers have seen many applicants bearing statements/receipts from hospitals in the US. We also know generally what healthcare costs in America.
It's sometimes the case that unscrupulous doctors will craft unrealistically cheap birth plans and then go on to bill the government for the full costs. What are the true costs? A Google search for "how much does birth cost in the US" turned up this result:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-31052665

There are options for emergency appointments that are determined on an individual basis.

Hello phatajoo. To a degree, families share in their credibility as visa applicants, both positively and negatively. You can accompany your wife and child to the interview along with your passport, or you can just hand it to your wife to show the Consular Officer.

Hi VO, just to double check... my husband does not have a us visa while I am a frequent traveller to US and everywhere else (I like wake up in a new country sometimes, lol!). Based on the bolded above... can I accompany my husband to his interview?
My child is a USC, I have renewed my visa after her birth and presented all the necessary receipts and contracts, and I have also visited US on the new visa afterwards and it will be nice having him on the next journey

Thank you VO.

i took out time to do a little research here and I stumbled upon this link below

http://www.floridahealthfinder.gov/CompareCare/CompareFacilities.aspx?ProdLine=149&AgeGroup=1

just so you know that some hospitals/birth centers are cheaper than the average quoted in the "bbc" article.

NCH in Naples Florida which was what my wife used has an average of $7, 569 ( Its birthing center but we paid for an obgyn and pediatrician separately who are affiliated with the hospital)

information purposes only

Dear VO
I had a terrible experience in new York airport. I was refused entry. Reason been my relative address had changed from when I applied for the visa. I was supposed to stay for 13 days. The officer tried to contact the number and address on the form without success. My uncle had told me his wife will receive me. The number he gave me was that of the girlfriend in new York and I think that's where the problem started. The reason for this I guess its because of the wife's attitude problem. But the officer new she was not exactly the wife. When he went tru my uncles status he was able to get his wife number
At that time the wife was already trying to reach me. The wife was in california and she told the cbp officer that she will buy me a ticket to LA. But at that point the guys mind was made up. I had to withdraw my visas voluntarily so as not to be forced out and banned. The officer said i can contact the VO in Nigeria. My questions

Can I explain what happened to the Vo and still be able to apply in the future. If yes how do I go about it. I was only made to know i was refused entry. I don't know if I was banned.

If I still want to attend the visit coz am currently on 4wks leave wish just started. How do I go about it. This was my first trip outside Nigeria and I had boasted about in the office. Just don't know how to face that. Lol.

I also want the record set straight as I will be eligible for secondment overseas in my firm next year. It might be in our USA office. I don't want it to affect me when the opportunity comes.

Need your advice please

Please, besides the marriage certificate, is there any other way an American consulate can verify a marriage? Please I want to know if Nigeria has an online database for her marriage licences. I was married in lbadan but l don't want US consulate aware of this. If l don't show the consulate a license how could he or she find out l am married?

Thanks.
