As we enter the 2017 planting season, plantain farmers nationwide are already out there seeking for hybrid and disease free plantain suckers to buy. Well, if you are one of those farmers, look no further than Kofo Agro allied.

At our farm based in Iseyin, Oyo state, we have constructed 50 macrochambers - to IITA standard- for the macro propagation of plantain suckers using the PIF technique. This technique has been certified by institutions such as IITA as the standard method for tissue culture and production of healthy and disease free suckers.

The process begins with the peeling of suckers, after which the apical dominance i.e meristem is removed. The corms are then placed inside the chambers filled with sawdust. The chambers are then watered regularly and in 6 - 8 weeks ,the corms start producing the suckers.

Also note that the plantain variety is of the false horn type, also called agbagba in local parlance.
