Why the S/East should remain in Nigeria, by Ifeanyi Ubah

Why the S/East should remain in Nigeria, by Ifeanyi Ubah
The Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, has admonished the people of the South East geopolitical zone to remain in Nigeria because it is “highly unfavourable” to be an independent state.
Ubah also said that the future of the South East remains bright in Nigeria because it has the potential to becoming the economic nerve centre of the country, just the way Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou are to China.
The business mogul, who is also the Publisher of The AUTHORITY Newspapers, said that he was canvassing the position after “following discussions on this noble forum and in a bid to contribute my own quota to the discourse, my position on whether or not to remain in Nigeria, is for the South East to stick with Nigeria.

“My reasons are simple - the South-East is particularly not ready for such a move as we are infrastructurally and industrially deficient.”
According to Ubah, the prospect of the South East leaving Nigeria is “highly unfavourable. First, the South East lacks the essential and requisite agricultural deposits to sustain herself.
“While harbouring the thoughts of self-determination, there is urgent need for an agricultural revolution through progressive policies within the South Eastern states.
“The South East needs to exploit areas where she already possesses comparative advantage in agriculture and promote policies that will enhance her productivity and trade.
“Second, industrialisation is key to whatever the South East intends to achieve and stand for. We saw BRIC+S countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China +South Africa) attain their projected economic giant status at the end of 20th Century. Today, all eyes are on the new projected MINT Countries (Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey).
“MINT is projected to emerge as the new global economic giants in this 21st Century after the emergence of BRIC+S and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the South East needs to be to Nigeria what Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou are to China before thinking of separation from Nigeria,” he said.
Ubah further suggested that Ndigbo should strive to make the South East a health tourism hub for Nigeria and West Africa by extension, stressing that there is need to redirect the massive revenue currently being enjoyed by these Indian and American hospitals to the South East.
He asserted that overall, the Indian healthcare market is worth around $100 billion and is expected to grow to $280 billion by 2020, a compound annual growth rate of 22.9%.
“Is this not strategic enough for the South East to tap into as a means to creating value before harbouring thoughts of self-determination?
“Finally, it is pertinent to note that this revolution must be driven by state chief executives,” Ubah stressed.
Ubah therefore charged the South East state governors to lead the campaign to actualising the ideas put up by him, declaring that “it’s high time we stopped our dependence on federal allocations which merely serves to pay civil servants.
“There is urgent need to look at securing partnerships with our brothers and sisters in the diaspora as well as the international community. However, all these can only be achieved if there is transparency, accountability and the requisite zeal to pursue this cause within the confines of those who possess the mantle of leadership in the South Eastern states, as such qualities will consequently breed confidence in the minds of potential investors.”

Why are gallivanting all over the thread? If you yorubas and fulanis know that Biafra will fail, you would have pushed Igbos into it yourself. Afterall, you've never like them so anything bad will please your heart. So why more than 'bereaved Biafra' with crocodile tears? grin

I am no fool and I cannot depend on him. The truth is, he is saying the agitation for Biafra is a very correct mission but we have an advantage that we can use to shore up economic resources to kick start a country. If we start without a dime, you must know that this is not 1970, where one can start without a dime and later do magic.

that is were you are getting it all wrong, we might not have a country called Biafra, but we can have autonomy whitout totally leaving Nigeria, why didn't talk about that? Because he is only seeking to protect his interests, moreover, we won't have any autonomy if we just ask for autonomy, we must put the bar at the highest position, so that if we miss the highest attainable position ie independent Biafra, we won't miss that second or third, do you think that simply voting will fix Nigeria? Sorry it won't, look at Delta state since 1999 the governors of that state are from the EXACT same circle of friends and relations. Therefore simply lining up in the sun every four years is not the answer. There has to be one agitation or the other.

What is this man saying?
Industry we have been in the zoo for 100yrs plus see how our land is no development from federal gov.but they developed other regions with money from our land. so let be on our own and develop our land. Now we pay tax to federal gov without them developing our land.

He talks of food, I what to tell Ifeanyi Uba that we can feed our self and export food if were on our own eg israel & Libya did it, but nigeria factor can't allow us to do that.

He talks about timing, its now we need Biafra than never because what is happening now is more than what caused the civil war. if not now as Uba said, when we build industry in our land then why leaving?. But we want Biafra because nigeria gov. refuse to industrialize our land.
The time is now or never.

Ifeanyi Uba is saying so because of his selfish interest & not collective interest of biafrans.

On Biafra we stand no going back, Ifeanyi Uba can nationalize in the west if he doesn't like that simple, majority mind is what we will follow and not individual interest.

A wealthy man is a man with ideas in his brain not a man that has money in the bank with out using it. What am I saying, that necessity is the mother & father of invention.
God blessed us with natural and human resources which is huge money, so ifeanyi shouldn't deceive us that we don't have money, Nigeria gov.of today knows that's why you can't tap or harness your God given natural resources because the want to cage u.

Since you said agitation for Biafra is very correct mission then we will forge ahead no going back.

No, it wont. You will only continue the blood shed. Do you know that Nigeria will be landlocked without the southeast and you think they're just going to let the south east go. It wont benefit either of us. What concrete argument do you have for seceding from Nigeria other than false conspiracies and ethnocentrism? Instead of working together to make the country better, you keep talking about division. Right now, all you have is oil which will soon be worthless as non-fossil fuel energy is being promoted. What will you do then? No doubt the Agboni people are suffering but instead of blaming your leaders who turn a blind eye to whats going on, you blame the rest of the country that has no idea of whats happening. Now, people are beginning to hear about this and are now helping, yoruba included.

I never wanted to respond to your ignorance but I thought it wise to do so in order to wake you, Uba and Charly Boy up from your illusion and fantasy dream

Pls answer these few questions

1) What year was an international airport both for passengers and cargoes established in SE.?

2) What year do you think an inland port capable of anchoring ships will be constructed in Igboland.?

3) What percentage of our natural resources do we have control over.?

4) All imported goods we use, are imported through Lagos despite our access to the sea. Is there a relationship between this and the high cost of imported goods in the East due to transport cost, police road blocks, bad roads etc?

5) Our states can't dredge River Niger, is it because

A) It is not legal for them or
B) They don't have the money or
C) They don't have the will or
D) What

A people who can't build their own international air and sea ports and have to import through Lagos, how do you expect the East to achieve economic development.

A people who don't have absolute control over their resources and lives, how do you expect them to

1) build economic infrastructures that will get them out of poverty.?

2) establish security structures that will protect lives and properties from Fulani herdsmen armed robbers kidnappers etc in order to ensure social economic development.?

Until all Pro Nigerian Igbos answer these questions, their stand against Biafra will remain futile and absolutely defeated in a UN supervised Referendum. kiss
