I don't support school protests because it's difficult to control thousands of aggrieved students. It tends to end badly, especially when they try to shut the students up by force using DSS et al. 'but from my own point of view_ students were already looking for a reason to go on rampage and the VC readily provided them one.

It's 'understandable' that you guys destroyed your school properties, why destroy Diamond bank? A company that's jejely doing business in your school environment and you say you want more banks?

I would suggest Futoites get a vacation job, they'll need the money to pay for damages. Diamond won't come back to your school.

Such protest in Nigeria are taking advantage of by non students who will end up benefiting from the loots while real students are left to pay for damages.

wow.. I hate when student engage in such vandalism , its self inflicting damage.

you are protesting for more banks yet vandalising the one bank in the school.

How does stealing and ransaking the ICT center help the protest ?

The leaders who called the protest should be more mindful of the effect .

If one is not able to control a protest then no need calling for one.

I will hold the VC and the leaders of the protest responsible.

Both should be sacked at the very least.

Exactly.

Maybe, that's why oga TUFACE backed out at the last moment?

I think d nigerian university system don't want to understand dat d nigerian students can no longer cope with stringent policies put in place virtually to oppress and put student underr total control
We ar becoming wiser and if u noticed pple don't care paying for damages as long as their voices ar being heard

Give students a chance to express their grievances and work toward addressing it, I think d learnedcommunity (so called) has become a place for oppression
lolz..it is the parensts that are affected most times..protest is good vilonet protest such as destruction of properties is very bad.....two wrongs don't make a right..times are hard

@DiamondBank! Thats just d problem, nobody wants them back. They are banks in town, why would the school force everyone to use just one bank and a particular mini branch to pay certain fees, you will find people standing on queue for hours and yet won't be able to make payment. I see nothing wrong in school having 3 or 4 different accounts and do reconciliation when there is need for it.

People just like to flex power... Dia is a man at SOSC building when they used to change teller to receipt, That man can even put the whole school on queue, while using them to read newspaper under the tree.

Whoever posted this article should try to post authentic info. I could remember vividly, destruction started at about 9:30AM when we heard blows on our windows in our lecture hall. The protesting students actually started destroying things by that time and not after the arrest of Rochas @ 1:25PM. I myself at 10AM saw Rochas at the bus park carrying a heavy wood and demonstrating heavily.

Diamond bank isn't the cause of your problem, they didn't force FUTO to operate 'treasury single account' with them. I am sure their staff are overwhelmed with duties.

That's a very herculean process students have been put through, very unacceptable in this banking age. Also a lack of innovation by Diamond bank, they could have easily come up with a 'fraudproof' e-payment option for Futo students.

You all will come back better, just get your damages fee ready.
Were you part of the vandalization team? grin

University of ibadan is about to follow suit. Even though we dont av a strong SUG, we could do beta in damages. UI SHOULD BE CAUTIONED. RIPPING STUDENTS UNECESSARILY. #SayNoToHikeInFees

It is worthy to note that a lecturer (name withheld) was whisked out of a classroom and asked to stop his lectures for his own benefit. Everything that happened was a peaceful one.

Who whisked the lecturer out of the classroom, students? Can't you see the contradiction?

They shld keep quiet till they pay N1m as fees abi. If ur parents can afford it not all can. Since they don't want poor people to go to sch then let the poor destroy the school so the rich will not also attend.

To me I believe this is way too far I wonder if they. Are student or Tout so until you destroy. And loot Public infrastructure you cannot protest at The End the school will still Gain because.

1)even the if the asset that is destroyed and looted Is worth 3million. School will claim it's10 million and you will pay = 7 million profit

2) it will not in anyway stop the salary of any lecturer

3) your 4 yrs programme will turn to 5 yrs.

Nigerian student wise up

Moral lesson!!! some guys hijack that protest and use the opportunity to loot

but why would tear your cloth your father bought for you or allow your father's enemy to destroy your house because you angry with your father. don't you think that you will one day reconcile with your. what happens to to the damages after. do not destroy your own body be careful in your actions because they will turn around to hunt you.

that's what you get when you have a weakling for a vc.if the vc manned up to his responsibility to address the protesting students or better still send someone else to represent him have a talk with the students, all this wouldn't have happened.where on earth do any federal university pay upto 100k for school fees?indeed this govt is a joke.by the way, sometimes i just dnt understand the distinct responsibilities of the police, dss, sars, and the nscdc.please can someone tell me what thier jobs are and thier restrictions cos me am nt understanding ooo....

It is you that should rethink to get my point and drop yours; if you're sensible.

I am not against protest (I'm proud and vocal supporter of Adeyeye Olorunfemi and Omoyele Sowore!) when there is need for it but protest is not a means for idiots to display their lunacy. You will never see someone who has the interest of school in mind among those idiots you are defending.

See the contradiction; the same people that were demanding for more banks in the school went and destroyed the only one they had and even looted it dry. Also destroyed the ICT facility and stole equipment worth huge sum of money. Hiding under the name of protest to perpetrate their evil act.

I know injustice when I see it and speak against it. That said, the VC may have been wrong in his management and actions but he does not own the school anymore than the students! What happened to social media protest?? How about online petition signing?? Nigerian students which way forward
Re: Futo: A Black Friday! by Nobody: 11:23am On Mar 01, 2017
I graduated from FUTO in 2015. Having heard the full report I must blame the undergraduates and the Vice Chancellor.

1. Under no circumstance should the protest have metamorphosed into a full blown riot. We did a protest in my first year, and not even a pin got missing.

2. From the look of things, it is actually the FREE WIFI that is the bone of contention here, and not the hike in school fees.

3. The VC should have addressed the ungraduates just the same was Prof Asiabaka did back then.

It is quite sad that FUTO have taken a U-turn from what it used to be. I wish you guys goodluck as you pay for what the indigenes looted. Next time you handle stuffs maturely

part of what? lol! Alumni Sis. I never said dey are d problem, but part of d frustration and d way dia staffs treat students, since it's an autocrat regime for dem. if u like frown or act anyhow, who cares? worst one fine girl will just come by virtue of connection run her package while your queue remains on still for hours and heaven will not fall. Let's just see it as transfer aggression, students paying for damages or not? I don't support cowardice, if u push a goat 2 d wall, expect d attitude of a dog. There is no way for peace without war.

Same problem will are facing in dis country, when did South Africa gain independence? But today they are deporting us. what a shame! Nigeria leaders do things anyhow, not even with a bit of fear or respect for us, because they know we are not going to do anything. Worst we can do is to protest and at the end, everything will b back to usual.
